Is Starcraft 2 allowed in North Korea? Are they on the same server as South Korea? Well, more on this and the answer of "no"
NK has a nationwide Kwangmyong network, which allows for e-mail and news from within NK, and very limited censored foreign data from mostly scientific sources. So essentially North Korea has the world's biggest LAN XD

I have no idea how you think that this is a good post. This is a thread about a video game's release in another country, on a SC2 website. Do you really think this is where one should be telling people how to live? Any actual revolution would lead to millions of deaths, not that it would actually happen based on this. In addition, I doubt most of the Chinese people are overly unhappy about their government.

They're both a really big deal. BW might have died down a bit I have no idea, but I know they had an OSL finals in Shanghai.
I'd say that the Chinese BW scene is the biggest outside of Korea, but even then it is minuscule. As far as I know, the OSL finals in Shanghai was really more KESPA trying to promote a dying scene than a reflection of the size and importance of Chinese BW.
From what I've heard and seen in my trips to China, the eSports game that receives the most attention there is DOTA and WC 3. WC 3 receives more "official" support, but DOTA is far more popular.

More players the better, this is great news! Thanks for sharing!

It's still funny how a lot of people think the price will effect things, the amount of people who have a playstation 3 and a lot of games(cant buy them pirated, need to pay 300rmb per game and a lot for the system) is probably around the same amount of people who own it in america. There's just a ton of people here and the % of people who own and do things is low but the amount of people in that % are huge.
Also i've been living in china for a couple of years now and it's funny how people bring up how bad the government is and such. But everyone has a job, and is able to eat and have enough money for a good time(yes there's some people who are extremely poor and getting taken advantage of) but it's for the better of the majority which seems to work. Also more chinese people dont even think about politics here or how the government is ran, they're just there and they do fine is what most of them think. Obviously there's exceptions but for the most part people are extremely happy here, more so than america/canada(lived in both countries).
Also if people think the government is all controlling i'll tell you a personal story, my girlfriend recently won a court case where their house was taken down from the government to build a road, she sued the government and won the case. Got around 1mil usd from it.

I mean I know how the Chinese government is structured but what exactly did they have to "approve?"

Please surrender to local law enforcement. You are guilty of thoughtcrime and will be reassimilated posthaste.

I got say, I was shocked yesterday by this news

Some Chinese players such as the MnM clan play on the US server while others like me play on the SEA version. I still think SC2 wont be as popular in China as WC3 though because of the fact that the the chinese are notoriously famous for not paying more than 20 kuai (3 US dollar equivalent) for any game or movie.
|
Anyone else expect the SC2 population to double because of China? Lol. China's pretty big, and since they officially made SC2 legal in China, more people will play it.

so yeah, the firewall kicks in if there are certain strings of text in searches or chat (tiannanmen etc)
I wonder if people will be able to abuse this in game
I'm losing and so I type 'Falun Gong tiananmen democracy'
Your opponent has disconnected.

yes, because starting a revolution due to a lack of starcraft sounds like a great idea.
I duno how ppl relate the approval process of a game to dictatorship......you guys do realize the blood in Korean sc2 is black right? Guess who made that change necessary.

The BW scene was by far the biggest outside of Korea with numerous tournaments and prohouses. The WC3 scene was the biggest in the world including nationally televised tournaments.

Dear Mods.
Im rather new to TL.net, so please clarify for my better understanding. Why was this user warned for his post?
As i understand it, the topic of the thread is implicitly political so comment, political in character, should be allowed. I recocnize it could have had been less blunt, but still.
Thanks for clarifying!

Well, I would imagine it has something to do with the fact that it says "start a revolution", which on some level is provoking or condoning violence. Obviously, I seriously doubt the poster had real intentions of starting a revolution and was merely making more of a general comment to invoke or express how he really feels about China, but never the less in our political correct world that we unfortunately live in, you do have to be careful about what you say.

Now, now comrade... Let's not border on thoughtcrime like the poor chap above. He has already confessed to supporting Goldstein. And you, comrade? What is it that inspires you to criticize The Mods and the Glorious People's Republic of China? What is two plus two comrade?
