Based on what just happened in the OSL finals...
+ Show Spoiler + I don't envy you flamewheel. Get your flameshield ready. Gonna be one of the most crowded top 5 of the PL in a while.

I'm a fantasy anti-fan, but 3-0'ing the current #1 PR and winning the most prestigious title a player can claim has to put him to #2, if not #1.
goddamnit stork...

I didn't really agree with the PR back then either but at least you could make the point that July pretty much coasted his best match-up all the way, not to mention the finals against Best who has always been known for being trash against Zerg. Fantasy on the other hand just dismantled the best PvT player in the world. Furthermore his semifinals were against Calm, who is a very strong series player and who pulled out all the stops, another respectable win (although the Ro8 against Hyuk was a bit of a free win).

Is it possible that for the first time in a long while, Fantasy could be above Flash in this?
|
To help you out, here is some Python code to create a randomized list, with some sample output.
from random import shuffle L = ['Flash', 'Jaedong', 'Bisu', 'Fantasy', 'Stork', 'Hydra'] shuffle(L) for i,l in enumerate(L): print "%i. %s" % (i+1,l)
1. Bisu 2. Hydra 3. Jaedong 4. Fantasy 5. Flash 6. Stork
1. Stork 2. Jaedong 3. Fantasy 4. Bisu 5. Flash 6. Hydra
1. Flash 2. Bisu 3. Jaedong 4. Fantasy 5. Hydra 6. Stork
Repeat until you get a good one.

unbelievable that a non-cbnc player 3-0'd the #1 in PR in an OSL finals... I'd put fantasy for cbnc last month (due to benefit of the doubt) but still he shouldn't have been in top 10 and he does this.
he should thank ssak and hyuk.
If the top5 is unbelievably close and you don't know how to rank I'd put the players who we know are best on top. JD Flash and Bisu should all be high, hydra and zero should rise and fantasy should skyrocket.

IMO, 1/2/3 - Bisu/Flash/Fantasy - this is really, really hard to choose. 4. Jaedong 5. Stork 6. Hydra

Stork lost 6 games (double 0-3) in a row and had nowhere near flash's dominating aura to begin with. I'd say he should drop more...
as for the top three, its getting really wierd. Most people know Flash is the best out of them but still he might not rank higher on PR despite playing a superb month. I'd say fantasy should atleast be above bisu.
1/2 fanta/bisu or flash 3/4 bisu/fanta or jaedong 5/6 hydra/zero perhaps 7 stork etc..
when it's this messy I'd just put Flash on top because he is bonjwa

Problem for ranking is that Flash/Bisu are dominating but only in proleague because they were knocked out early, but JD has been winning a high percentage but struggling in them all + a favorite to win MSL. And then Fantasy comes out of nowhere, not on the PR (rightfully) to sweep Stork 3-0 in the OSL finals. Unbelievable.
I don't think you could sum up the situation any better within 4 lines. Really a very hard PR to do.
My take:
#1 Flash When things are as messy as now and noone can truthfully claim to be a clear #1, just go with the best player. He only lost one game this month and obviously still deserves more credit than anyone else. His play looks still as sharp as last year.
#2 Bisu Three all-kills and former #2, so he really deserves a high spot. If he had beaten Flash in WL, he would be my #1, but he didn't.
#3 Fantasy First, I simply dislike it when the PR turns into a place where people can just jump from "Not on the PR" to "#1" within one month. Furthermore, there is nothing that makes me believe he is the best SC:BW player in the world. We saw him at what Fantasy is best in, in preparing a Bo5. And while all of this was very impressive, Storks play was uninspired and Fantasys road to the finals lacked a bit in quality competition (group was ok, Hyuk in Ro8 is just lol, and I don't consider Calm to be THAT good right now) But an OSL winner should always be within the top#3.
#4 Jaedong Under normal circumstances, with the month Jaedong had I would easily put him at #1, because above everything else, he still is winning a lot and is the favourite in the MSL. But his games are often very sloppy and he himself looks quite shaken up. If the Jaedong of 2009 would lose games like against Stork and Violet in WL, I would not worry one bit, but at this moment I am very worried. Still it has to be said that game #3 and #5 against Snow where superb and even in game #4 he didn't play bad... it was just Snow playing like Bisu on crack.
#5 Stork Yeah, this breaks my heart, seriously, but he needs to be punished for his showing during this week, which could have been the most glorious of his career.
#6 Hydra - On an amazing tear lately and a ZvZ-monster. #7 ZerO - For occasional brilliance and being a MSL semi-finalist. #8 Bogus - Established as the new "Go-to-guy" in STX with good results in WL. #9 Snow - For the most impressive PvZ Bo5 played in a long time. #10 great - Semi-finalist in the MSL should account for something.

I kinda like that rank. I agree with most placements and with the reasoning behind them.
Both Violet (poor guy ) and Stats are CBNC.
|
i also think its a good rank from malinor, however i'd put stork 6 or 7 right now. coming in to next month he's going to be anything but "hot".

So many people arguing for Bisu/Flash as 1&2 I think of the PR as a place to celebrate the achievements of the best players of this game, and there's no greater achievement than winning a gold medal in a league. Give Fantasy the #1 spot (he should have been #9-10 last month too, IMO). Jaedong #2 (he's a huge favourite to win the MSL now that there are only Zergs left). After that it gets messy but Bisu #3 and Flash #4 sound good to me. #5 could be ZerO for his win over Flash and the resounding win over Stork. #6 Stork #7 Hydra #8 Snow #9 Bogus #10 Great
I know most people will disagree with me but I put much more emphasis on individual league success than ProLeague.

Hardest jobs in the world:
1. Alaskan crab fishing 2. Bullfighting 3. Crocodile wrestling 4. February Power Rank author
Good luck.
Edit: I found this funny: Stork, you know who else lost eight games in a month, dropped almost 100 Elo points right after a massive winning streak hitting a personal best >2300 peak, and didn't even make CBNC?

He was also #8 before that finals.

bullfighting is not nearly as hard as it looks!

Guess what protosses? Shine in Winners League while you can because Zerg is coming back to shine.
6 zergs in both leagues semi and 2 guarantee zerg finalists.

well at least there's a clear #1 (ZerO)
rest of the rank is gonna be so hard though O_O

That's a little unfair to July maybe. It's true that July was no Jaedong, but the role that July played in revolutionizing ZvP is often unfairly overlooked. The credit tends to be given entirely to Jaedong when it shouldn't be. I'll accept criticism that July was not a well-rounded player at that time, but he won OSL and then a year later made 4th place in GOM. Really, it was just his ZvZ that couldn't cut it. His ZvP was the best in the world at a time when metagame was good for Protoss.

You've got three #1 candidates, and I'd rank them like this:
1) fantasy. 3-0 OSL win, 6-4 PL record (I think all WL) and no losses he "should" have won except vs ggaemo. If this were a regular PL round, I'd say 6-4 puts him lower, but given it's WL, while not fantastic it's definitely solid enough to not put question marks on his OSL win. 2) Bisu. He's on what, a 14 game WL streak now? One loss to Flash, knocked out of MSL by Stork. 3) Flash. Similarly excellent WL record. Unfortunately didn't play in starleagues at all. Beat Bisu but lost to ZerO; those two games are an overall net minus in my book since it's Bisu's worst matchup but TvZ is Flash's best.
And then you have Jaedong and Hydra. Jaedong's got a better PL record and better history and better ranking from last month. JD might go over one of my top three depending how flamewheel writes the thing.
And then you have Stork. And ZerO. And great? I have no idea any more.

Museoun you are once again trying to gloss over fantasy's series with calm. fantasy had a very mediocre month, with no real shining games (aside from maybe the series vs stork, which i think is more about stork failing 0-6 now).
Flash and Bisu to take #1 and 2. jd 3, for a relatively good month, even though he lost his force. fantasy at 4, for winning the osl (and pretty much nothing else), and stork at 5 for failing 0-3 twice.
