As far as server size it was hard to find good pubs in cod4 but that was only because people insisted on playing horrible modes like HC. There were some decent 20ish player domination and HQ servers and stuff that served very well to practice. I don't understand the comment about how you can't find a pub with the same number of slots that people played the game competitively at so it was flawed. if you want to play some pick up form there is always a place where you go to find pugs. You can still play and skill up on regular pubs as long as the regulars aren't awful
The maps definitely couldn't handle 32 players though, those were absolute clusterfucks.
Also good call on editing out that line about "FPS games are better on console for 99% of the players" IamTheWhiteGuy If I edited that out, it was an accident. They are. Do you know how long it takes to find a PUG on my Xbox? 11 seconds. Autoaim has been fine tuned so well these days I don't miss the mouse KB at all. Do you know how long it takes to find a PUG to play a 6v6 match of CoD 4? HOURS. HOURS and HOURS and HOURS. For the creme de la creme playing serious clan scrims against other players on big LANs to drop latency down to single digits, consoles are lol. For everyone around my skill (which is, I assure you, considerable), playing an FPS like Call of Duty on the PC these days is a colossal waste of time. You get less of what you want, and you get to search for it, and the tradeoff is a bunch of worthless bull **** that appeals to no one and results in hair being torn out as people hurl their frags into guaranteed kill locations or you get sniped by one of the 10 people on the other team who sit in a corner and each post a kill every two minutes. As for " I don't understand the comment about how you can't find a pub with the same number of slots that people played the game competitively at so it was flawed" I literally cannot be any clearer. If you can't wrap your brain around that, then just drop it. your obviously still playing cod4 vanilla on pc for the real pc experience, rollout some of the promod servers and stay far away from mw2 considerable skill on console still makes you a noob on pc also; sigh taking pride in needing the autoaim
I don't need the autoaim. I can hang with the best of them, and I've played a shitload of promod. My conclusion after two years was that it sucks and destroys the balance of the game as a whole in the name of having a stripped down ultra-specific competitive shooter. Again, if you're that guy who actually drives a few hundred miles to participate in a LAN tournament, it's for you, but I like using a gun that isn't the AK74u.
They just pulled out all the features that make CoD fun. Is it less luck based? Absolutely. Is there a higher skill ceiling. I'm not convinced, but probably there is. Is it more fun? Nope. Not by a longshot.
If you aren't driving down to play at MLG or you don't routinely build a machine from parts you got from newegg every two years, PC FPS gaming is not for you.
I can now throw down with my casual buddies on the PS3 or Xbox, and I can find the match I'm looking for within the time it takes me to go grab a glass of water (which I can do, since I don't need to go looking through the server list for one that isn't total garbage).
Now, granted, we're on team liquid, where probably a good percentage of the people here ARE the kind that are going to get the most mileage out of a PC copy, but you have to appreciate that you are in such a vanishingly small minority that, while your elite uber skillzz and general philosophy of online gaming may lend themselves to promod, that's not everyone.

This. I hate PC gaming. I'd rather just buy an Xbox for a one time charge of $300 than spend a shitton on my PC every few years, just to lose games because a richer guy has a better computer than I do.
And if liking console shooters over PC shooters makes me a retard, then I'm fine with that.

All of you bringing up the price of pc everytime there is a console vs pc thing is so fucking dumb. a 600$ pc today can run most games on high for a few years, WHILE BEING ABLE TO DO EVERYTHING A COMPUTER CAN DO. You still bought a computer right? you are posting from it. Why not pay a lil bit more and get something amazing and be able to do EVERYTHING with much more customization while your console sits there in front of your tv and not being able to do shit with it.
Console could be a decent alternative if you could use mouse and keyboard. controllers are way 2 bad for anything other than fighting games.
Also if you wanna talk about prices.. games are much cheaper on pc ( not talking about money hungry activision, that's an exception because they think pc players are as dumb as console players)

Yeah, I mean, the controller on my Xbox makes CoD completely unplayable. Just because you prefer to use a mouse and keyboard over a controller doesn't give you the right to be a total elitist.

^ This.
People who still have the mentality that a PC needs to be upgraded every couple of years are living back in the 90s when technology was improving more exponentially than it has been lately. Today there is technology in PCs that no games can even take advantage of yet. It's a shame that developers have focused so much on the Console players, because PC is so much better of a platform for games.

As a person who has both the xbox version and the pc version(yes lolwhut) i can say that playing on the xbox is alot better for me, i am certainly not as ont he pc but the instant loadtimes and virtually no hackers apart from prestige makes it alot a better of an experience. I do believe that playing on the console in terms of aiming is harder even with autoaim but shooters such as CoD are not based only on aim and jumping (like games as quake, UT and shit). I mainly play SnD(bite me i like it) and you need more then just good aim to do well there. Mind games, flanking, and other things are no different then on either platform.

my older pc lasted me 6 years. i only changed it because i couldn't do video editing on it effectively any more :3 it still ran sc2 on medium.

If you can't wrap your brain around that, then just drop it. your obviously still playing cod4 vanilla on pc for the real pc experience, rollout some of the promod servers and stay far away from mw2 considerable skill on console still makes you a noob on pc also; sigh taking pride in needing the autoaim I don't need the autoaim.
Controllers, in my opinion, are the far superior method for playing FPS games. Point & Click with a mouse (that doesn't vibrate) is just too easy to accurately portray the precision and stability required to aim and shoot a gun. I think that pulling the trigger, and having the controller give vibrating feedback that throws you off while making pinpoint adjustments with the sticks, is a much more organic feeling for FPS. Keyboard/mouse has always made FPS games uninteresting for me.
So I cannot wait for Black Ops, since it has the option to play with Aim Assist off.

More precise aiming, the ability to whip your character around, the ability to actually type out words in chat, more keys to bind buttons to, probably more... The point being, what makes a console controller better? Nothing really, except that people get accustomed to using it.

I'll take watching quake over "slowfest 12 desert commandos" anyday.
Sorry but fps with a controller is like mouse only rts, yes it's hard by certain definitions, it's different but it's just so much of an arbitrary handicap made up for with aim-assist since it'd be so bad w/o it.
And pub cod means < 0, i can log onto some cod 2/4 servers now and top multiple pub scoreboards with 4/1 kdr or thereabout even not having played it for a ~year (and that was just for a short stint after tons of time off). You're playing people who can't shoot for crap unless you hit up a few select servers.
I kind of miss being shit shit at fps instead of just shit, then I might perhaps blissfully like all the martyrdom crap and company playing fps rpg instead of being a masochist in quake where I stand no chance vs anyone even remotely decent.
console fps for the most part are good however for the relaxed fooling around kind of like mouse only dicking around in 4v4.

Wow, way to derail a thread. This argument is about as ridiculous as the Xbox 360 vs PS3. Neither is superior to the other, people can prefer what ever they want to use.
When I play a shooter I like to sit on my couch, and relax. I don't want to be sitting in front of my computer for every single game I play.

I have never noticed a difference in the aiming, you can whip around fast on consoles, I don't see how binding more buttons really helps, when everything is set on a controller. Typing is the only real advantage, but you have to stop what your doing to type out a message to some one. And as for advantages, I can't sit on a couch and use a mouse and keyboard.
In actual Cod news, 2 more days.

Show nested quote + More precise aiming, the ability to whip your character around, the ability to actually type out words in chat, more keys to bind buttons to, probably more... The point being, what makes a console controller better? Nothing really, except that people get accustomed to using it.
In actual Cod news, 2 more days. i dont think its more precise to say, but more or less easier control on fast paced games like quake, unreal (im bad at those games). "whipping around" depends on the sensitivity as well
the only thing that interested me about this game was the zombie killers thing with kennedy mcnamara castro and nixon, made me laugh

Two sticks just simply don't have the precision of one mouse + WASD, and while you can argue that its more immersive, I would rather play with a more accurate platform.

Got it preloaded and ready to go.
Treyarch has done a good job with BlackOps and have not cut out anything that made gaming on the PC worthwhile. MW2 was a complete terrible port by IW
Dedicated Servers Mods (Future support/patch) Lean Console FOV (change upto 80)
They also fixed console quick scoping aim assist garbage as well. So that should reduce the number of quick scope videos on youtube and console gamers think they are elite or something because Aim Assist aims for them...making them look good
Console players still have to stick to poor voice chat codec/p2p ping and now they have to actually aim properly with the sniper and not have to rely on a hack "Aim Assist" to aim the shots for them
