Yes, the game pulling your aim to the side if someone runs in front of you is aim assist screwing you over. The intervention is also known for having -very- generous aim assist, giving headshots on clear body shots (I've lined shots up that were pretty much dead center chest and it gave me a headshot), or hitmarkers/kills when it should've been a clear miss.

During the day or two I decided to try actual quickscoping for lulz, I watched a few videos and one of them was about drag scoping which is essentially scope in, swing your crosshairs across somebody and fire while doing so. The aim assist apparently is very generous with the firing window and if your crosshairs are over an opponent it picks that for where the bullet will go if your timing was close enough.

I have a very small sample size, but when I tried it in Terminal I had two different occasions that were silly. One I was outside near the truck by the end of the plane. Saw someone in the hallway lined with windows. Scoped in 2-4 windows away from him, swung wildly toward him, fired, and got a kill. Also was in the small building outside (across from the plane) looking out a window to a guy down on the ground. Fired 3-5 shots via dragscope method and over half were hit markers (bullet pen through the window sill and/or a crate he was next to lowered the damage to allow more than two hits). People who practice can get it to work far more reliably.

So a lot of the kids claiming that the Intervention is more pro because you can't spam it like the other snipers due to the fire rate (not that big of a difference for the Barrett as it has to wait for recoil to settle) are often just piggy backing on the generous aim assist.

The majority of the cases of aim assist occurring (where it actually helps the player) are usually too subtle to easily notice.

Im kinda confused about all the aim-assist everyone is talking about in mw2. (I had 360 version not pc)
Are you guys talking about that annoying as fuck thing that when someone runs across your vision, it pulls the scope towards them? i to be honest found it did more evil than good. How many times are you lining up a shot, then another enemy runs across and takes your sight off your target? Man it pissed me off. Idk about you guys but the AA never really helped me at all?

You say that because you only notice it when it does annoying shit, but trust me, its INCREDIBLY important to console shooters. Go play some Halo or COD and then fire up Nightfire and try to snipe or get some headshots, you will be very thankful for how far games have come in the last few years.

Its one of the reasons people rarely bring up for Halo CE being as big a hit as it was, it was one of the first console FPS's to have a well implemented aim-assist that allowed people to feel accurate without "locking on" and destroying the skill factor.
In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.

OK guys, I know I'm being an ass asking this here instead of googling it myself, but please bare with me, I've got some (very stupid?) and simple questions:

1) I haven't played CoD since MW1 (didn't get WaW or MW2), is this just a glorified MW1 with just a little better graphics?
2) I get it that dedicated servers are back (yay!), but how many max players? 18? 24? I remember that in MW there was 48 I think, but I didn't play with that many anyway(mostly played on 16/24/32), but are smaller servers (and maps by that matter?) a good direction?
If anyone played MW1 and can compare the big(ger) number of players vs smaller number in MW2, which would you say is best?
3) System Reqs? Similar to MW1? Much higher? If I can run SC2 on low can I run this on low also?
Call of Duty: Black Ops PC Minimum System Requirements:

OS: Windows® Vista / XP / 7
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom™ X3 8750 or better
Memory: 12 GB free hard drive space / 2GB RAM
Video Card: Shader 3.0 or better 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600GT / ATI Radeon® X1950Pro or better

4) The thing that bugged me the most in MW1 were kill streaks. Carpet bombing, choppers seemed really stupid to me. There are obviously more kill streaks now. How wild are they? I just wanna run around and shoot people with rocket launchers/ normal guns / snipers etc. Will I continuously get annoyed at getting killed by this shit or will the KS rewards be tuned down a little in power?
5) I'm not quite sure if I like the "store" and "buy" mechanics for perks and weapons. What do you guys think? Sure it's less of a grind for the weapons you REALLY want, but on the other hand, it delays other weapon trees from getting made available.
6) I used to play hardcore almost exclusively in MW1. I cringe every time I see a map always on, the pointer (+) thing on the screen always on, and burning through 1 magazine per enemy. Is hardcore in or out? (A big selling point for me)
7) Barebone seems like a very good mode. Do you think there will be a lot of servers using it?
8) I like playing both solo and with friends on TS, does this game look appealing to clans and a semi-competitive scene?

Sorry again for the questions =( didn't get to read the thread yet, buffering video from page1 as I write this.

I'm sorry, who are you? Also, you're a whole page and a half late on posting something that a real mod already posted.

But back to talking about the game.

1, I'm in the same boat, and I assume that's the case except all the changes to the money system, wager matches, and what not.

4, 6-7 you'll probably just need to search through servers to find ones that are geared towards your style.

hmmm id say #1 is true, but tis glorified enough imo
#2 i have no access to the game to check yet
#3 you answered
#4 well no nuke = tuned down at least, but barebones will help here
#5 im looking forward to it, as much as it was awesome having everything unlock by level, i think this is good
#6 im 99% sure its in
#7 i find it somewhat akin to cod4 promod servers so id say yes
#8 if cod4 was, and black ops this allows mod, ded servers, and has barebones, im inclined to say yes

Thanks for the answers you two.

After watching the 1h gameplay youtube video and googling around some, seems like it might be a good game (even if it's just mw1 glorified). It really didn't seem different from MW1. Just some new weapons, different perks, different maps and different models.Which isn't bad by any means. Might be a breath of fresh air in a tired-and-true already working formula.
I'm still not sure how I feel about shopping for perks and weapons. I guess I'll just have to live with that
The new modes seem interesting. HC will be in (TDM SnD HQ and 1 else I forgot for the PC version)
Although what has me worried are the perks.
Ninja pro is just down right imba. Unlimited sprint with marathon pro is >_> also. Read somewhere they'll be reasonably hard to obtain though...

Anyway, from what I've seen and read, I like. Just need to know the server capacity on the dedicated ones (but I'm pretty sure it's 18).
Can anyone post their own review of multi or link to a non-biased site review?

This is utter nonsense.

When Crysis 2 comes out on consoles, it's going to look drop dead gorgeous and run with a totally acceptable framerate. In no way is this going to happen on a $600 PC.

Besides, this idea that PC gaming is cheap depends on shopping for deals, lots of technical know how, an intimidating building process, and the goddamn wherewithal and time and effort to **piece together your own machine bit by bit**, not to mention that windows 7 ALONE immediately kicks that bare bones PC up to $800.

Your console doesn't require any of this. It requires no maitenance, no smart usage, no computer literacy, no installation times (mostly), no server filters, no nothing. It just works.

Not sure why you would pay 200USD for W7, you can get the OEM version as you buy your new computer for a fraction of the price.

Surprisingly building a computer is pretty easy. Sure you need to know some basic knowledge in computers (This is 2011....people should know the basics by now). There are tech forums where you can get friendly advice, and building it your self is pretty easy. The instructions are very easy to follow.

When i build my first PC (With just basic pc knowledge) i was so surprised at how easy it was for me to set everything up. The instructions were so dam easy to follow, and you can't really plug anything in the wrong way since every connector is unique...its just impossible to insert it the wrong way unless you bruteforce it in.

I am not sure about what your whining about server filters..you make it sound like it needs rocket science to join a server. Infact it is way more easier/quicker to join on the PC than in MW2 4 me.

I'll ignore all the PC vs. console stuff, but suffice to say with OEM you're looking at 100 instead of 200 and I have strong opinions on the rest of the stuff you've said.

As for your bullshit about MW2, no fucking shit sherlock.

MW2 ALREADY uses the exact same goddamn system on both console and PC. For some reason, of course, everyone hates this, despite the fact that it consistently places you in <50ms games with the proper number of players with an extremely low wait time.

I'm talking about CoD 4, WaW, and theoretically Black Ops. These have used a standard PC browser which make you filter the shit out of the server list to avoid being saturated in 32 player fuck fests. Then you get to pick over the under 20 servers with 12 people in the hopes that they aren't full or offline, which invariably they almost always are.

If past performance is any indication, the PC version will be the place to go if you are one of those semi-pro gamer types. Otherwise you sacrifice nothing and stand to gain much by playing the console version.

Uh. Where did you get the impression that you get <50ms response time in MW2 games? The fact that each game is hosted locally as opposed to a dedicated server means that there's an extremely high unlikelihood you're getting ping anywhere close to that. In addition, when the host inevitably leaves you can have fun waiting for a new one to be found. Have you ever played MW2 for an extensive amount of time on PC? If so it's not particularly difficult to sympathize with those who find the system far inferior to MW1, COD2, COD1 etc...

Additionally, if you have an IQ over 40 a browser system is hardly difficult to use. It's not a complex system: apply the filters you want, double click the server you want. Use the "refresh" button and you will avoid servers that are offline and filter out the servers that are full. Ezmode rite? And perhaps some people enjoy games with 32+ players? The point is, it's about CHOICE. PC versions aren't bought by people who are "semi-pro", they're bought by people who want control over their gaming experience and have a few favorite servers where the same people hang out.

getting the thread back on track w/ questions was genious, even if unintentional, so i had to help
yeah i think some of the perks are useless/too good via descriptions, cant wait to see how they pan out though
the video showed the pro versions required 3 challenges each, so they wont be too accessable
assumptio: non-biased reviews will be from people who arent eagerly anticipating BO but enjoy fps, shouldnt be out till a few days after launch
ex. metacritic pc is blank on it

Let me explain, once more, so that you can cram this through your tiny little pinhole eyes that apparently failed to read the first few times.

When it says "Searching for a match <50ms" and then FINDS a match, tah-fucking-dah! You're playing a game with less than <50ms.

Additionally, if you have an IQ over 40 and the capacity to read at a fucking third grade level, you can clearly observe what I've said about the browser system: It is VERY hard to find 12 player servers with good ping with empty player slots. VERY hard. Maybe it's possible now, but most of the available servers involve upwards of 20 players, and frequently more like 32.

In MW2, or on console CoD games, it involves pressing X or A (depending on your console) twice, and then going to get a drink.

And no. You don't get to choose. You get to play semi-pro rounds with other clans in highly competitive scrims, or you get to participate in the 32 player fuckfests that are barely CoD at all. Those are your choices. That's not okay. It would be like buying SC2 and having the option to play 1v1 at a >1700 diamond level, or only 4v4. That's no kind of choice at all.

I can't be any clearer than that, and until someone has something to say about it that I haven't already addressed at least three times before, fuck off and talk about Black Ops instead .

This is utter nonsense.

A $600 PC does not look as good as a $400 console. It just doesn't.

Well known fact MW2 won't connect you to a server with higher than 50ms ping at time of scan. I mean the xbox version don't have any experience with PC or PS3, although I'm positive ps3 works like the xbox version.

Armed Robbers Snatch 100 Copies Of Black Ops In GameStop Heist
http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/harford/bs-md-video-game-robbers-20101107,0,5201573.story

Handgun-wielding robbers who burst into a video-game store in Harford County over the weekend made off with more than just cash. They also stole more than 100 copies of the highly anticipated "Call of Duty: Black Ops," which won't go on sale until Tuesday.

At least two men were involved in the robbery, timing it for when the GameStop in the Festival at Bel Air shopping center on Bel Air South Parkway was about to close on Saturday night, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said Sunday. The men, armed with semi-automatic guns, stole four cases full of Black Ops — the newest game in the popular Call of Duty series — as well as cash and game systems. Police arrived on the scene around 9:20 p.m.

It was the second armed robbery of a Harford County GameStop store in less than three weeks. The sheriff's office said the men might also be responsible for the other incident, at the GameStop's Aberdeen location on Oct. 21.

While the robbery at the Bel Air store was under way on Saturday, two customers stopped by and were forced into a storage area at gunpoint. Neither they nor store employees were hurt, the sheriff's office said.

The Black Ops games stolen Saturday night had been set aside for sale on Tuesday, said Monica Worrell, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office. Fans across the country have pre-ordered copies to avoid missing out.

"'Call of Duty: Black Ops' isn't out there 'til Tuesday, so anybody that has it today or tomorrow shouldn't have it," Worrell said Sunday, asking residents to call the sheriff's office if they're offered copies before the release date.

The game — rated "mature" for intense violence, strong language and "blood and gore" — can be pre-ordered from retailers for about $60. It's a first-person shooter in which gamers play from the perspective of several characters, including a member of two secretive CIA squads. An Associated Press story about the game noted that developers tried to make it feel like "an epic interactive action flick."

The robbers who stole the game from the Bel Air GameStop fled in a late-model white minivan, police said, possibly a Dodge Caravan. A late-model white minivan was also seen at the time of the Aberdeen robbery.

A GameStop manager referred press inquires to a corporate spokeswoman, who did not return a message seeking comment Sunday.

As much as I hate people blaming video games for violence and what not, I blame video games, IN PART, not completely, for this happening.

Funny thing is, can't they just track the CD Keys and bust people who activate the game using those keys?
Isn't it ironic and selfish to say that God made man in his image, when God was made in man's image?

I also don't really mind the changes to sniping, in MW2 it was kind of ridiculous how fast someone could scope up and kill you. Just means it will be more challenging to snipe, closer to that of Cod4.

Yes in Mw2 someone could scope and kill you waaay too fast. I would prefer the time taken to be more like cod4 as would many others I think.
They have completly changed the sniper though. When you aim down your sights you dont aim where your crosshairs were. Check this video if you are unsure of what i mean:

This change pretty much takes snipers out of the game.
