Yes in Mw2 someone could scope and kill you waaay too fast. I would prefer the time taken to be more like cod4 as would many others I think. They have completly changed the sniper though. When you aim down your sights you dont aim where your crosshairs were. Check this video if you are unsure of what i mean:

na it doesn't take take out of the game it just takes out the wannabe quickscopers pro sinpers and let the real quickscopers of the CoD4 days to wreck hell on them.
No, it just makes quickscoping anyone complete luck.

Wow I didn't know they changed it like that. Hard scoping will pretty much be your only option. You could still quick scope, but it would be really random how often you hit someone.
i havent really been into call of duty since the 2nd one. CoD4 was good for a while but it's still basically the exact same gameplay since CoD1 in 2003. It was fun back then but it's ran it's course with me. and honestly I hate the kill-streak stuff. the worst part in CoD4 was dying to some air-strike or something and not being able to do anything about it, and then in MW2 they decided "hey we should add in like 5x more of that!"
this game doesn't really seem to be doing anything differently enough to make me change my mind on the series.
I'll really be interested to see how popular it gets even though IW isn't making it. Although I guess WaW was absurdly popular for a WW2 shooter that wasn't very good anyway.
Just a word of advice. Make sure you pick up AK74u and Famas, you get them both relatively early. Famas in this game is soo much better than MW2, my favourite assault rifle atm.

The engine is -slightly- different, but there hasn't really been a huge change. Perks have pro versions, which is essentially a second perk related to the first one. Equipment and stuff got moved around, but overall not really any game changing differences.
2) I get it that dedicated servers are back (yay!), but how many max players? 18? 24? I remember that in MW there was 48 I think, but I didn't play with that many anyway(mostly played on 16/24/32), but are smaller servers (and maps by that matter?) a good direction? If anyone played MW1 and can compare the big(ger) number of players vs smaller number in MW2, which would you say is best? Just going from 6v6 to a 9v9 Ground War is pretty ridiculous on many maps (least in MW2). Any more than that and the game approaches stupid levels of spam.
4) The thing that bugged me the most in MW1 were kill streaks. Carpet bombing, choppers seemed really stupid to me. There are obviously more kill streaks now. How wild are they? I just wanna run around and shoot people with rocket launchers/ normal guns / snipers etc. Will I continuously get annoyed at getting killed by this shit or will the KS rewards be tuned down a little in power? Ghost will be your best friend. The normal version is UAV Jammer. The pro version more or less makes you immune to killstreaks (specifically, they don't target you - you could still get hit if you're near someone being targetted). COD4 killstreaks are the essence of pristine balanced compared to MW2 or Black Ops. The air strike in COD4 had trouble hitting anybody and the helicopter could be shot down in seconds if you/your team wanted it gone. There's secondary launchers specifically shooting down killstreaks now, but the killstreaks are generally more annoying. Upgrade from COD4 is that killstreak kills don't give you more killstreaks... so that annoying COD4 tendency of people to not call their helicopter until they die, so the helicopter helps them get another heli is gone. Not to mention all the killstreak chaining that was in MW2. Coming from MW1, MW2 killstreak spam will make you cry/go emo. At least predators aren't in Black Ops. Doubt any of us can count the number of times we've spawned, only to be killed by a predator 3 seconds later.
5) I'm not quite sure if I like the "store" and "buy" mechanics for perks and weapons. What do you guys think? Sure it's less of a grind for the weapons you REALLY want, but on the other hand, it delays other weapon trees from getting made available. Seems fine. I'm sure it's generously balanced, especially given that you get CP based on your exp, along with bonus CP when you rank up. If you prestige a lot, you may only use a few guns per prestige (what I did in MW2 while going through them). Not having to grind for attachments/camos is nice. And there's always wager matches if you want more CP and don't suck. I'd say chances are low for the system to lock you out of too many guns, unless you blow all your CP on cosmetic stuff.
6) I used to play hardcore almost exclusively in MW1. I cringe every time I see a map always on, the pointer (+) thing on the screen always on, and burning through 1 magazine per enemy. Is hardcore in or out? (A big selling point for me) Hardcore is still around, and should be playable in even more modes than were available in COD4. MW2 had hardcore TDM, Search, and HQ. Some of them had "ricochet" which made you hurt/kill yourself if/when you harm a teammate. Leads to some annoying deaths via calling in airstrikes, but it works out and allows for hardcore modes without teamkillers griefing one of the teams (remember those martyrdom guys?).
7) Barebone seems like a very good mode. Do you think there will be a lot of servers using it? Wouldn't count on it being too popular, but time will tell. It got added rather late in MW2's life and only had one playlist (TDM/FFA combined) linked with it.
8) I like playing both solo and with friends on TS, does this game look appealing to clans and a semi-competitive scene? I'm sure clans will be playing the shit out of it and flexing their epeens on gamebattles. Don't follow the 'competitive' COD scene so can't help too much here.
Sorry again for the questions =( didn't get to read the thread yet, buffering video from page1 as I write this.
Responses in bold. Killstreaks are more annoying, but there are more tools to deal with them. Beyond that and new guns/maps, time will tell how good the game is.

This is incorrect, the barebone mode for BlkOps let the server host choose which weapons, killstreaks, and perk they want on or off in addition to some other things. Should be what most servers will be running if it turns out ppl still spam with noob tubes. Of course in the console the host will probably have to change these settings in the lobby

Also mlg has announce they plan to pick it up for at least a couple of competitions. so whether this means it will be at all their circuit events or just a few, we will see. But there will be a competitive sceen.
I prepurchased mine like 2 weeks early, i've been waiting for this ever since mw2 came out... THIS is how mw2 should have turned out, but instead they just shafted the community
I'm gonna get this Thursday/Friday. I want the English version BADLY so I bought from amazon.co.uk. Thinking back, even for the 35 pounds I paid, I'll probably get enough entertainment. Even if I end up completely hating the game after some time, I'll probably drop at least 100h in it, if not more. Anyway, what do you people play the most? Hardcore? normal? Any steam group for this, or are we gonna use the normal TL steam group? Taking a leap of faith with this because it looks promising and a lot like mw1 >.>, just hope it won't be a let down...

There is a gametype called "barebones" It has no killstreaks in it and I played it alot in mw2 since there seemed to be less noobtubers in it. If you dont like the killstreaks then you should check that out instead

I am so glad to finally patched that. Moving from WaW to MW2 i found the quick scoping snipers were absolutely retarded. and it doesn't really take snipers out of the game, they were still widely used in WaW just fine. These sort of things, like sc, come down to a grade of map balance for different types of weaponary/play styles. Plus, you can just strap on an ACOG and pretend its like the bolt action from WaW. They made the FOV a bit wider so that its more usable.
