Ah ha! I've now got the new player working. It looks like the issue was simply that I didn't have Flash installed, per se - I use Chrome as my main browser, with IE as backup. Since Chrome comes with its own flash player, and IE uses the ActiveX plugin, I'd never had any need to install the standalone Flash plugin that other applications would use (and Adobe likes to be helpful and not let you install it again easily). It's possible that other Chrome users would have this issue as well; if so, here's the easiest way I found to install it:
1) Open a new tab in Chrome. Type in
Code:
about:plugins
into the address bar, hit enter, find Flash Player. If you click the + Details button in the upper right of the page, and Flash Player only lists "gcswf32.dll" as the plugin file, then you don't have the Flash plugin installed.
2) From that Plugins page, disable Flash, and then navigate to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer; if the native flash player is still enabled, it will just say "Chrome comes with Flash, so use that k?", but with it disabled it will let you download and install the latest version.
3) Go through the flash install process there - once done, check the plugins screen, and you should notice that Flash now says (2 files) next to it, and has two listings when you click the + Details button. You can now disable the listing for "\NPSWF32.dll", and re-enable the listing for "gcswf32.dll", to use the built-in flash player for Chrome again.

- Reworked how stream listing works. Can now handle more streams and is very stable. (active)
- Reworked how adding a stream to our list works. This does not affect the user. (active)
- Fixed a problem with justin.tv streams showing up as offline in old player (active)
- Fixed a problem with the own3d overlay (Informing you that own3d doesn’t support auto play yet) showing up when you tried to switch FROM a own3d stream (should be when switching to).
- Improved the look of new player settings, you can now see the stream you’re tweaking :D
- Reworked how stream notifications work. New setting: Display all stream notification / Only favorites.
- Added more information to streams. Language, league (including bw), featured (TL), race (and caster). Default is Caster (microphone icon).
**** This will progressively get more accurate! If someone is filed as a caster/terran/other but isn’t please send us the correct information though feedback or the Teamliquid topic! This information is put in manually so everyone does not have their correct information yet! ****
- Lock ratio option (for easier resizing) added
- The name bar now doesn't show when in flash mode. This enables the user to have access to justin.tv resolution controls. Added a notification about how you can toggle the flash back off with T.
- Reworked the look of new player overlays.
- Removed borders from all windows
- Updated the styles for ALL windows to remove most of the battle.net 0.2 ripoffs.
- Experiment: Removed old style windows (to see if anyone will notice, also they’re ugly)
- Added a retry option if the server fails to get stream information on startup.
Changelogs are boring tho right? So ;
WHAT'S NEW?
- First of all , we now got RACE and LANGUAGE information for streams.
- We also got a MUCH MUCH better stream notification system , so I really doubt you'll miss any streams with ScC anymore.
- We also changed the main style a bit , windows are less bulky now and looks much better ( at least to me )
- We removed all old styles which increased performance and stuff. So yea it works&feels faster now!
- Oh another big thing , ScC Stream Player is now a STAND ALONE APP! I tweaked it to work as a stand alone application and ScC setup will create a shortcut on desktop so whenever you want to watch streams , you can directly jump in player just with a double click !
- Lots of other UI improvements , ie ;
- ScCPlayer top bar is not blocking Justin quality settings anymore
- ScCPlayer Settings layer is smaller so you can see the stream while tweaking Contrast & Brightness
