Getting bonus pool points makes bad players feel like they're improving by improving their score artificially. Bonus pool means nothing and does nothing other than soothe bad players' egos and make it impossible for good players to create a benchmark. There will be no "A" bracket for points, because every day that bracket will be artificially inflated by 10 points. What a bullshit you are talking about... the Bonuspool is just stupid... i wish i could use it at all. I would have to play like 20 Games a day to use it all. I dont have the time to play that much. SO y Bonuspool keeps growing and growing... Im in Diamond and played higher ranked Diamonds, and had no Problems so far. So i suck because the System gives me endless Bonuspool points which i never can use at all? Man you gotta have to learn what Logic is imho. Damn if i dont play some days i fall down the rankings because im not playing at all, not because im losing, because i dont play. The System favours mass gamers much more than ppl with not so much time. It's kinda the opposite. The bonus pool allows you to climb from the lower ranks MUCH faster.

it keeps the cap from stagnating.

pretty unaccurate
good people (read high rated, esp in 2n2+) get low points, thus low bonus pool per win worse people get many points out of their pool
sometimes i play 3n3 RT with an ally for fun, but with 85% winrate you'll get 1-3points per game, impossible to get rid of your bonuspool without mass gaming in every bracket
the closer you are to 50% winrate to faster you can get rid of ur pool

this is why most people dont even bother posting. because when they do someone just says there wrong and backs up with a bunch of stupid bullshit. bonus points really dont mean shit because they dont make you a better player for having them. thus wtf difference does it make.

False. Points have nothing to do with your winrate. You get more points by beating people ranked higher than you, the closer you are to 100% winrate the faster you get rid of your pool.

I agree with these two. Bonus pool rewards the people who are actually good to get to where they need to be faster. If a newbie earn bonus pool points and gets inflated, that's ok because once he reaches a certain level he'll start losing a lot more so it evens out eventually. But on the other hand, a good player will get the bonus pool and get to where he truly rank much much easier than just grinding many games.

Bonus pool is great. And I have to say its pretty genius of blizzard to add it in.
The thing you need to remember is that in the end this is a game and blizzard wants ppl to keep playing their game. If you could only achieve a certain number of points before you can no longer increase in points ppl would get there and then stop playing as they stagnate. The bonus pool makes everyone want to keep playing on a daily basis to keep up with their bonus pool and thus it keeps the ladders and community alive.

the bonus pool is there for 2 reasons I think:
1. if a player is inactive then he drops in ranking faster because the active players use up he pool.
2. if the inactive player decides to play again, then he can rapidly climb the ranking up again if he wins the games.
the bonus pool system takes care of the activity of the players. just like war3 has the decay system where you slowly lose points over time. just that the bonus pool system is better, because you can climb up rapidly if you are equaly (or more) skilled in comparison after your inactivity.
pretty good system imo.
edit:

I find this also a pretty good reason. actually the bonus pool system makes the rating more accurate. because we can assume, that everyone who plays gets better. but without the bonus pool your points would not show this (because again: everyone is at least slowly improving, so your rating would pretty much stagnate). I agree that the bonus pool system is in a sense motivating and also accurate in conjunction with your actual skill.

It's the exact opposite what are you saying. If you mass games, even if you play at a 50% win rate, you'll burn through your bonus pool and end up with a lot of points. If you don't play a lot, then you'll never burn through your bonus pool and end up lower in points compared to someone who does.
Wrong. You can blow through your bonus pool with only a few games per day. Thus as you continually play, the bonus points have less of an effect on your score. Your score might inflate high from the bonus pool points, but after you go through them all (which you will if you mass game, easily, assuming you play like 2-3 games per day), then you'll start losing more points because your score will be higher (well it technically doesn't work like this because they use MMR). However, if you only play a few games per day, your wins will always have double points and your losses will not. I find it hard to believe you coulnd't burn through your bonus points, I didn't play at all for almost a month straight then burned through the accumulated 200+ points within a little over a week and a half.

guy1: 50% winrate, average mmr loses 1 game -12 wins 1 game +12/+12
guy2: "100%"winrate, highest mmr ever wins 1 game +1/+1 wins 1 game +1/+1
so who used up more of his bonus pool?

I was under the assumption that bonus points went up depending on how long you didn't play. thus you could still keep up with the points you should have had for your mmr/ranking.

its a fixed value, which increases over time for everyone actually its 1320 on EU

You might be right in that extreme situation, but any realistic application the person with the highest MMR is someone who is a top gamer and got there by mass gaming. In any other situation, his point stands, which applies to 99.99% of gamers, including those in the top 20 on the Top 200 list.

sry, but that isnt uncommon
many experience that, especially in 3n3/4n4 RT at higher diamondratings

I think bonus pool points are to encourage people to play
make them want to use up all their bonus points and stuff

BTW I think your example OP with your friend is wrong... who he beats or loses to determines the level of his opponents, regardless of how much he abuses the bonus pool to get his public rating higher.
was gonna say this as well. his mmr is the only thing deciding who he get placed vs although those bonus points are prolly keeping him ranked fairly high

I never noticed how crazy the point inflation actually was until I didnt ladder at all for about 2 weeks. I was legitimately (and rightfully) at 1300~ diamond or so before I stopped playing. I played a few ladder games today and the people I played (1300-1400 points or so) were absolutely awful. :/
Edit: Also, I'm pretty sure it only takes like 1 win per day to keep your bonus pool down. Unless you already have a lot of points stockpiled up. Even then, you just need to win 2 games a day to slowly bring it down. Doesnt sound like "mass gaming" to me.

You CANT cheat the system. Its impossible. Everyone gets exactly the same amount of bonus points, no matter how many promotions/denotions you had or since when you play sc2. There are a lot of posts about this if you want to know more, but all you need to know is: Bonus points are stupid, but 100% fair.
On October 31 2010 01:18 Hyp-The-Feared wrote: Whats the reasoning behind bpp's anyways? I hope blizzard plans to change this..what do you guys think? Blizzard introduced this bonus pool system because there are always some stupid people who think they can abuse the system. I mean, check this thread, half of the posters think that the bonus system leads to some kind of advantage if you paly less/more/whatever. The Bonus pool results in overall more active players. Also inactive players will get removed out of the ladder due to bonus pool inflation. Being 1st in your division is only ypossible, if you play on a regular, daily basis.

Why don't you folks just ignore the bonus pool and look at the winrate instead? The Matchmaking system is very good at putting you together with people of similar skill, so as long as your winrate for the last few dozen matches stays above 50%, no matter who your enemies were, you are improving ahead of everyone else in your range, if it's below you are improving slower than everyone else in your range.
Thats all that matters, everything else is just for bragging and has no technical meaning at all, neither for matchmaking nor for climbing leagues.
Bonus Pool has no influence on who you are matched up with, the points have no influence at all, only the hidden MMR rating which is 100% unrelated to the points and bonus pool.
Oh, and except for maybe the top few hundred, you can burn through your bonus pool with 1 win a day which even for me as casual gamer is very quick.
