my friend brought this back from japan, it's an antique candleholder or something and apparently was made in korea and brought back

anyway it has some text on the bottom and we'd like to know what it says. any help would be great

I've spoken Korean for about 18 years now and only have only learn to read and write at an elementary school level. I have to ask: Is that Korean? It must be older Korean or something... It looks so different from the regular Hangul alphabet I can't discern too many characters.

looks like it might be chinese characters, actually--koreans used to use chinese characters way back when like the rest of east asia. With old stamps/signatures and stuff like that there's a weird chinese font/way of writing the characters that looks a lot like that.

Have no clue what says though...

If you right click the image and select 'view image' or something like that then it won't get clipped... maybe that was your problem?

TL now clips images that are too big instead of resizing them.

For me, they start off clipped until they are completely loaded.
Then, it resizes automatically.

i think the characters should be read vertically (by shifting that image left 90d) and not horizontally as you have it displayed. They seem to be a mishmash of hangul and hanzi.
