As many of you probably know by now I do have a speech impediment and I get many people asking "why the hell would someone with a speech impediment become a caster?". I've let this impediment get the best of me for over half my life but once I accepted the fact and can even joke around about it; I have become a much happier person.
For way to long, I thought if I was born without a speech impediment; I would be a much more outgoing person. Now I know the impediment was just an excuse, when I am confident I am a much more outgoing person.
After I started streaming(as a joke) I have:
* Been asked to cast events. * Been asked to join RageQuit.TV * Gotten press access to Comicon/IEM * Met high level players such as Gretorp, orb, lastshadow, and CaucasianAsian... Actually Caucasian may just be trolling me, but I won't play him in Broodwar to find out. * Been asked to join other organizations as a streamer and actually have a salary. Unfortunately I think those organizations are about monetization and not the community, so i respectfully declined. * Gained many great friend such as Stropheum, Wolf, Fitz, and Corrupt.
I'm sure there are many more highlights in the past few months but I believe I already prove my point.
What I learned from this "curse" is confidence is all that matters. If you are confident about something no matter what the odds you can overcome them. Actually, that's a lie if a 6 pool fails there is no amount of confidence that will bring you back. Not because it's an all in play, but also because it means you are a Zerg player(sarcasm).
Hopefully you enjoy my casting and even if you don't just remember Elmer Fudd is out there casting games having a good time laughing at the BM and you are letting <insert something silly> stop you from doing <insert something bejujular> just because of what others will think.
Edit: Forgot to mention the funniest quote from the DC/MD Cyberlan last night: "Do you have a speech impediment or are you Australian?"

Love your casting!
|
You have a speech impediment? What the ... I honestly didn't even notice and I was RQTV a lot ... love your casting by the way, keep it up ^^
|
^_^ I knew you were the caster of RageQuit.TV yesterday. I was just too afraid to ask you. Nice blog man. I think you do a good job at what you do.
|
This tempted me to check your commentary out :O tell me when its on! this blog post made me laugh haha.
|
Does anyone else find it ironic that rhotacism and lisp cannot be pronounced correctly by people with those conditions? English is evil that way.
|
holy shit i always thought that people who pronounced their 'r's that way had some kind of accent. interesting. Given that, I don't see any reason you should be any more ashamed of your speech impediment than someone with a strong accent (country, ebonic etc) or even people who learned english as their second language.
|
Ipp u were one of the coolest guys at the tournament yesterday.
Thought it was just an accent of some sorts! Totally had no problems understanding you, hope u had a great time and hope to see you again sometime! Good luck streaming in the future u'll do a great job.

Gonna go out on a limb here and say that I don't like your casting. And it is a direct result of your speech impediment.
I know that there are people that like your casting. And I am glad that you are satisfied with your casting. More power to you. I have nothing against you personally. I just can't really listen to any streams you cast without getting highly annoyed by your speech impediment. So now as a result I try to avoid ragequit.tv's stream whenever events are on.
I do wish you good luck in your endeavors though.

I never noticed anything that sounded bad.
Well, great casting, keep it up!
|
I've liked your casting any time I've tuned in. Keep it up!
I think I might have an inflated opinion of you because I remember you from the WoW rogue forums years ago (assuming, of course, you are the Ippon who posted there ALL THE TIME WHOA). No matter, your casting is good regardless.
|
Never quit, Ipp. You're one of the best.

Everyone at the DC/MD Lan you were all amazing, and I hope to see you at some dinners in the future! So LuckyFool, I hope you meant what you said because I will be showing up at many more of the dinners/lans. If you dislike that well then I guess I will be like the herpes of DC/MD events; after one exposure I keep commng back.

Crikeys! I'm a closet WoW player, there goes my viewers. Wait no confidence... I'm the best WoW player of all time(which makes me fruit dealer[aka cool]) and if you disagree, I will hunt you down and repeatedly pound you from behind until you agree and if you happen to turn around before saying uncle I will vanish, punch you in the kidneys and continue my mutilating. But in all seriousness, I have actually loaded up Starcraft put it in windowed mode; then loaded WoW up just so my RealID won't say I'm on Azeroth, showing off my Thor pet.

Kudos for being honest, no hard feelings; hopefully more people will get some HQ streams. I have posted all my settings in a previous blog; in hopes other streams step it up and people don't just come to us because of the quality.
Check us out in a month or so as my speech may be up to your standards by then. I do listen to my vods when time permits looking for ways to improve. I'll admit it, I couldn't stand listening to myself either when I first started and it took me about 45 tries to record a silly 2 minute Nuke Glitch. Oh and that 45 tries is not an exaggeration, I am being generous I worked on that for the span of 2 days probably a little over 2 horus spent on that gem.

I always enjoy your casting, and you seem to have a good attitude about your speech issue (which is hardly noticeable anways)
|
i rofl'ed when i saw the topic name and that it was by ipp. we all love your speech impediment and we all love you

Ha, I clicked on this thread because I thought it would be an interesting read. Little did I know that we met yesterday.

Haha, that was a pretty funny quote. It was almost an awkward moment of silence when you said it was an impediment, but I'm glad that you've incorporated it in to your life in such a way that you can exude confidence and joke about it at the same time.
The strange thing is that it really does make you sound Australian, in person anyway. I just watched the nuke video and it seems like your audio codec or microphone emphasizes your Rhotacism. You sounded absolutely normal to me in person otherwise.
I wasn't aware you were a caster :O I remember reading a post where someone said "is that Ipp from RagequitTV? I sounded like him." but never got your name so I didn't make the connection. Perhaps I'll have to tune in some time and check it out.
And since we never shared names, I'm the dude with the big camera who sat in the opposite corner of you at Ill Mee. Hi!

Just watched the nuke vid, I didn't even think that was a real speech impediment. I knew a guy in high school that talked the exact same way and we all thought that was just how he talked, I don't think even he knew it was a speech impediment o_O. The term never came up once from either side in the 6 or so years I went to school with him.
