I agree that Milkis is kind of being a massive cock in general, but when he gives legitimate, excellent advice about why their translations aren't great (his first post in this thread) and then QS comes in gets all defensive, it suggests to me that he's probably tried to give advice before and got a similar reaction.
Obviously I don't know for sure, but that's just what it seems like.

^ I think you are right.
I really enjoy the translators here but I didn't know it was such a cock fight. Quality of work speaks for itself and people know if there getting a bag of runny shit. I dont know why any of these guys are getting all uppity.
Just as annoying as jocks in regular sports. Too bad.

I probably should apologize for that, since I do tend to be blunt when it comes to these kinds of things. To be fair, I've never been any good at sugarcoating anything I say =(
I should also apologize for "ruining the community" because this comes right after someone gave me a similar statement. I honestly don't have a legit excuse because it seemed to have slipped off my mind soon after that someone told me about it. I do apologize for causing a rift again and, I'm also making this statement public in hopes that I'll avoid doing it in the future.

Was about to say something but it seems someone already told you what I was about to say.

reason why i'm voting no (and was always against live translations, unless absolutely necessary or important info) was that 90% of the stuff is actually not worth translating at all.
"Oh he's getting a defiler" "ZERGLING RUNBYY!!!!!!!!!" "AAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!"
no offense to those who put in hard work, but i think that live translation in a stream is one effort that i feel is kinda being put to waste, because the stuff you guys translate are mostly rather obvious stuff. not about quality or whatsoever, just feel that that effort you guys put in can be reallocated to somewhere else more lasting and effective.

If you're being a douche to someone, obviously any "advice" you give them will be received negatively.
The translator team really has sunk quite low in a couple of years...

I would have to agree with Kona quite a bit, and surprisingly, he makes the most sense in this thread : O

If you think about it, these guys are posting the obvious things exactly because it is obvious to them. If you're trying to understand what the commentators are saying and translate under a tight time constraint, it becomes quite understandable that proxy rax is what comes to mind first.
So milkis and kona are right in that the op probably shouldn't be doing live translations but try subs or post game interviews which let them improve vocab & get familiar with sc lingo.

Of course keep it up! It seems the only people who are being critical are those who don't even need the translations. As long as you're not mis-representing them, translations are always appreciated.

And I am working on a sub/translations as well as the live translations (well, until recently when the issue popped up).

Milkis man, just let it go. From my years long experience of streaming, I've learned that people really do like these translations. Even if they're mostly stuff we can see, some of the times you get stuff that you wouldn't have noticed.
People enjoy it, they really do. And I've grown to notice that people enjoy translations more than having the freedom to talk. So just let it go.

Good. You can get back to live translations when you feel comfortable. Kudos for trying to help the community despite what happened.

The last time I've trolled QS out of doing translations was at least a week ago. I've stopped that after I talked with Mystlord and a few others about it.
SNM asked me how his live translations where during livestream chat, and that was just my response at that time. Yes, it was blunt, and I realize now that I could have been a lot less direct about it.

man QS, why do you get in heated fights with people in every thread i see you in stop caring what others say on the internet, theres seriously no point gettin mad every time someone has something bad to say about you
|
I voted yes... but honestly, whenever the game starts I watch full-screen so I'm not even looking at chat (unless I need to figure out who is what color).
The only time I would care for translations is pre-game or post-game, because the commentators might say something about league standings, team politics, player history, etc.
These are things I would be interested in because they aren't so obvious to American fans like myself. But then again, I'm not even sure if commentators talk about them...? since I usually don't see translations of pre-game and post-game commentary...

And about last night... I wasn't mad because someone called me bad at translating or whatsoever, because from some people's perspective, it could be true. It was something else that ticked me off.
This discussion popped up in my head after reflecting upon myself for past few months, minus few possible views from the community. I do not hate nor am mad about this issue; I just wanted to clear my head and thoughts.

I was talking to quickstriker, not you, thats why i said QS sorry that I wasnt clear D: I havent seen a lot of your posts but I do very much appreciate the work you do, especially because I cant watch livestream from bangladesh so I just sit in the chat for the LR

As long as your translations are remotely closed and manage to correctly portray the idea of the speaker I think it's fine. I personally enjoy them. And it's not like it's "blocking" anything else, the people in the stream's chat rooms are constantly spamming boring non-sense anyways... At least 90% of the time there is nothing interesting going on in the stream's chat so your translations are more then welcomed, please keep it up.

I voted yes and I think tons of people here are missing the Reaganesque larger picture. How many people log into chat for one of Roffle's or Mystlord's streams? Usually its around 100 from what I can tell, and usually about half of those people chat frequently. So that's 50 people. You're letting the 50 people who log into chat dictate the whole argument. Usually the streams have at least 1000 people watching. I suspect most of them prefer the translations to the general chat (since they don't even bother logging into the chat, they obviously don't want to participate in it).
I tend to lurk both here and on the streams, though I think I'm logged in on them now. I really like the translations, whether its the mundane things or the strategy things. The mundane things help to put into words the excitement I hear in the commentators voices. It doesn't matter if I can see exactly what they're saying, I still like it especially in the exciting moments. When there's lulls in the action maybe focus more on the strategy things they're talking about, but that's not a huge deal. I try to catch most of the big events live specifically for the translations.
I watched the VODs of Flash vs Effort because I can't usually be up at 5:00 am and it just wasn't the same without the translations. I found myself almost falling asleep while watching them even though I wasn't tired when I started.
I listen to English commentators when I watch sports on TV and usually almost nothing they say adds valuable information to the event. Commentating is part of the experience and being able to understand the commentating makes me feel much more invested in the games.
