Pretty sure this change is here to stay im not sure. the uproar is quite huge. and there might be legal issues in some countries (and dont say it doesnt matter. in germany facebook is forced to change some menus and default settings now). ofc they wont say "ok our fault. sorry it was stupid". but they sure have to change some of their plans.

This is what will probably happen alot: "Rohn Neuman has also recently looked at asian ass pron! Do You want to become RealID Friends wih Rohn Neuman?" "Check out this list of people, who are also interested in asian ass pron!" "Your Wife just made a comment about this! She is baffled by your interests!" "Your boss just made comment about this! He now wants to kick your ass!" Future of E-gaming: I salute you! You are already dead before you even exist. Poor thing never stood a chance! whoa, you got a progamer name ^_^ Shuttle FTW

But the same could have been done on the WoW forums for years now. Yes, people troll on level 1 alts, but those alts are still tied to the account the players have their mains on (which is in the account databases). You fuck up, you get banned (maybe temp it the first time). If you start perma banning (forum only, not game), the forums will clean up (or blizz will make a fortune off of rich trolls who like throwing away accounts on a daily basis). Win-win. I'll probably do that as well with the sc2 retail. Shame, cause up until now I've had all of my blizzard games in my happy little account.

Not that I'd post on the forums. I'll use it to harass those people who think differently from me.

For example, if you ever have a billing dispute, or need to verify your account to reclaim it (if it was hacked, or if you need any info changed that does not don't have direct access to it). For WoW players with credit card infos for monthly payments its even more complicated.

For WoW players with credit card infos for monthly payments its even more complicated. Here's the thing though, this only matters if you play WoW (and Diablo 3 when it comes out). For Starcraft 2 it's a great temporary solution. Personally, I'll be making a new Bnet account on the 27th, with a fake name, just for SC2. If my account for some reason gets hacked, then it won't matter at all, all I lose is a ladder record. Besides which, as long as you remember the fake name you use, and answers to any security questions they set, you can verify it just fine for reclamation. It's not like they ask for your SSN or anything. As for WoW, it is a misconception that your account name has to agree with your credit card information. Mine never did (I bought the game with a friend back in '04, then he left and I took over payment), and the legions of kids whose parents pay for them never have either. All that said, I will most certainly never be subscribing to any Blizzard game in the future that requires payment beyond purchase. I absolutely do not trust them with any valid information anymore, and I'd expect them to start selling e-mail addresses to targeted advertisers any day now.
