makes inviting people to events and planning this kind of stuff SOOOOOO much easier. other than that its pretty useless except for attempting to flirt with chicks you barely know.

I never joined and can't tell you how happy I am not to have that baggage and wasted time to deal with. Guy above me is right though. The people I know that spend less time on it spend that energy on real life socializing and are better off for it. I think it artificially fills a need that we have, so when we use it too much we stop trying to get together with people the real way and forget how to talk to strangers....

i mean during school, its easy to create groups and find your group members and to upload and share work for group projects or whatever since not everyone checks their email all the time and not everyone picks up their phone when you need them to lol but when you log on to facebook, it gives you a notice that your group has some activity i know a lot of sites or programs can do that, but i mean, facebook is already popular so might as well capitalize on stuff like that when almost everyone has it. maybe some people need it for other reasons but its just plain and simple .. useful. It could be very useful, but it's mostly just full of bad apps, or take whatever broken metaphor you want haha. I've never missed out on anything because people still invite me by a phone call or text. I can see it's use for a bunch of people. But for me and the things I do, real life networking is a lot more useful. (not saying they are mutually exclusive !) Actually, here's my question and maybe we can both learn. Aside from downtime and creepin, what function does facebook have in your life, what do you use it for ? try and be as concise as possible

I really am not interested in disproving anyone's ideas or trying to win or anything. Sometimes people I think to be clever or share things in common with do something I normally would just write off, but then when I ask them about it I see that they might have a great reason that applies to me, or a good reason that lets me understand. Or it's just something I don't have a use for in my life so I just continue on without it. I'm not going to tell you my way is better, I'm just trying to find the best way for me. You shouldn't feel a need to satisfy me because I was just talkin. I'm not hatin. Just skatin mostly.

Today I decided to do something that i should have done a long time ago: i've just quit my facebook membership, and I hope that I can stay "clean" forever. I've never been a real facebook-junkie like some people I know, but it started to affect my daily life in a way that I didn't like at all. Do I give a fuck? No, I just don't give a fuck. Eat your cookies, but don't tell everybody! Quit facebook, fine.... but don't tell everybody! We just don't give a fuck...

What is this "talk to strangers" thing? I've never heard of it. Personally, I'm not to sociable of a person. So I've found that I get invited to more things over facebook than I would without it. Also, I've got a friend that misses out on some events because of his lack of facebook. That said, it isn't right to generalize based on my prior statement. But I do think facebook is a great tool for some people and bad for others. Where I live, mainly filled with upper-middle class white people, it's basically unusual for a person of my age to not have it. I think that would factor into my poor buddy's exclusion.

Back then, you needed a college email to join. You could not join groups made at other Universities. There were no statuses, no "likes", and no fucking farmville. All you had was your profile, picture albums where you could tag friends, and pokes. You could create events, but only invite people from your college. Since it was only for college students you never had to friend your mom, dad, uncle, grandma, and 10-year-old brother. I didn't exactly mind when high school students were allowed. I was pretty upset when anyone in the world, not just college students, could get a profile. Facebook stopped being a uniqueand exclusive social networking site for college students and started becoming another myspace. Years after these changes facebook has become a gigantic waste of time. Games, scrolling through status changes, and advertising...oh the advertising. Three years ago I received harsh criticism from friends when I never checked my events and missed several parties that were never mentioned in person. I was an RA for college freshman for three years, and every year they spent more and more time 'stalking' and 'creeping' others. My girlfriend tells me I SHOULD be checking everyone's status changes several times a day (when I ask why, she just tells me it's something I SHOULD be doing...wtf). Seriously, fuck facebook. I'm holding on to an old ideal and the 600 saved pictures. Good for you!

But seriously, take down the fucking facebook games. Even Modern Warfare 2 is better than Farmville.

Gj for quitting. if you don't like it, fine, but don't act like it's just a waste of time for dumb people. it is damn useful and functional, especially for college students. it makes planning events and keeping them organized much easier. i'll give a quick example. when we are planning a dorm-wide event with 150 people, nothing is more helpful than facebook. we get an estimated number of how many people coming. people leave suggestions on the event's wall. it reminds people when and where the event is when they forget. there's nothing wrong with quitting facebook (could save a lot of time. i manage my time well enough to sign off and not log in when i need to get things done) but it's pretty ridiculous when people are like "omfg facebook fucking sucks." you don't like apps? block them. i dont understand people getting bothered by apps. facebook chatting, catching up with old friends, looking through friends' vacation photos, organizing events.. it's pretty awesome, although it would be better if were for only college students or something
