my first blog post on TL!
Today I decided to do something that i should have done a long time ago: i've just quit my facebook membership, and I hope that I can stay "clean" forever. I've never been a real facebook-junkie like some people I know, but it started to affect my daily life in a way that I didn't like at all.
First of all, I've never really understood why I really should use facebook. If I just wanted to stay in contact with my friends, there would be much less complicated ways. I also never liked this "look! look! I've bought a cookie and it tasted fine!"-twitter-thing. I don't wanna be offensive, but: Do I give a fuck? No, I just don't give a fuck. Eat your cookies, but don't tell everybody!
In my university some people (mostly girls) spend their time between lessons playing all those cute litte facebook games. I prefer to spend my spare time chatting with some friends or surfing on web sites, where there's actually something to read. (like TL  )
When I started using the internet 11 years ago, anonymity was one of the most important features. It was like a huge playground...those were the days. Nowadays, the internet has become a giant octopus with "I like"-buttons on every tentacle. You can't run, you can't hide. We know that your friends know that you like, what she liked, so please look, because maybe you could like this too. Fuck this, I'm outta here!

Unfortunately, I'm hopelessly addicted to facebook. It's just too convenient for making events, creeping on people's lives (rofl), and staying connected. I use facebook chat almost exclusively (even though it blows).
I don't know how you did it XD

I only really use facebook for the purpose of reconnecting with people I've lost contact with. I grew up in a military family, and therefore would relocate every 3 years. I have had friends literally from one coast to the other and facebook has served as a means to get in contact with those people again. It's not necessarily a "bad thing" or something you need to "get over" unless of course you have addiction problems with it.

You're so right. I only made myself an account when I went abroad for 5 months to share some pictures (and a little bit to stay connected, but not so much for that reason). Now I'm still on it because of the friends I made all over the world. Well ok, for about a half year I haven't really done anything on there :/

I only log onto facebook every couple of days to see if there is anything going on, if not I check my comments and maybe leave a few and log off. Ive got better things to do that fuck around on that retarded site.

yeah, that's pretty much what I did. but did I need it? no.
@QueueQueue: well, of course facebook has a purpose, and I think the site can be quite useful, too. but I dislike the way facebook seems to spread all over the internet. (bnet2, "I like" buttons on various sites, etc.)
If it just was a place where I could talk to some old friends, it wouldn't be a problem for me to stay there.

I never really got addicted to it, but it is a nice tool to talk to people you know and find out personal info you need.
I don't care for most of the features though.

I kind of feel the same way you do. I thought about getting rid of it but for me the bottom line was even if I don't care much about it or feel the need to use it, facebook is still an easy way for people who I've sort of lost contact with to get back in touch. And there's also food friendzy, which gets me free chinese takeout!

Facebook was never an "addiction" to me. Teamliquid on the other hand... But in all seriousness you might be doing yourself a huge favor if you find it isn't worth it.

I never got addicted, I just go on it once a week to talk to people.
My friend was looking for a video he posted on my page about 2 months ago, and asked me how come I never posted anything because the video was so easy to find.

I've never joined Facebook. I sort of hoped it would just be a passing fad. Web2.0, privacy invasions and dumb games do not interest me. I keep in touch with people online with msn messenger, but many of them use Facebook messenger exclusively now. :/ We'll see how long I can hold out.
