Now I've seen this whole unsieged tanks deal quite a few times in pro TvP and I'm wondering why exactly the pros do this. What is going through their heads? I have a few guesses but I'm not totally sure: -Unsieged tanks can retreat from zealots. -Unsieged tanks can gain ground more quickly and are great for early game aggression since low toss numbers = less splash damage from siege. See TurN vs Bisu. -Unsieged tanks' single target DPS is only slightly lower than that of sieged tanks (see http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?currentpage=All&topic_id=28699 ), thus making them favored in circumstances where they'll need to chase or face spread out units.
Siege is better because of range and, in execution, no player will ever have their units spread out perfectly enough to avoid the devastating splash. The best option is to siege for your first shots and, if you're losing, unsiege and deal damage en route away from the fight. Siege is what MAKES tanks a good unit, plain and simple.

Just watched the vods. The first two games went as expected. Jaedong, the veteran, beating a newer player. Hwasin's play was sloppy with the dropship and during that first big battle. The loss of so many tanks hurt him. Kal played a good game.
As for the last two games, I am very disappointed Light lost in such a way. I feel like it's his fault though because of the lazy job he did of controlling his scouting scv. The Flash game was short as expected and I think it leaves Best in trouble.

Jesus, I just saw the Flash vs Best game. Best got SMOKED. Like so badly I think even he was disgusted with himself. His 2 reavers got off a grand total of ONE shot the entire game. His attempt to double expand got pissed on so badly by Flash. That was some sick sick hanbang. Flash knew exactly what to do the whole way.

so flash opens strong FD, something totally out of character on a map that it's very ill suited for. best sees it and is like, "ok, he must have thought i was going to 12 nex but i haven't. he's going to poke around and sense that my nexus is at normal timing. i'm safe." flash, of course, did not think best was going to 12 nex. flash throws down a 2nd factory immediately, blind, and makes nonstop tanks from his initial factory, and does not poke around with his vultures. the reason why becomes clear shortly. flash comes out and there's nothing, no contest of his advance. flash starts an acad and continues to move forward. best realizes that the very thing he had eliminated from his mind is about to occur: a bad opening into a newbie attack.

Either way, Kal or Hwasin v Jaedong should be fun.
