Basically I was playing a ZvP Destination and opening with a 3 hatch spire -> lurker build and got to 5 bases relatively easy.. at this point the phone rings, I pause and answer it, 3 seconds later he's unpaused and A-moved his dragoon/templar army in lurkers.. I pause, and he does it again... this time I don't notice until like 30 seconds later where my army's wiped out and he's on his to my 4th gas.. I pause once again (lol) and suprise.. he unpauses.
I continue playing but not with any confidence, with my resources now at 2k/2k.. and eventually I lose =(
I don't know what I'm expecting with this blog, I'm just kinda surprised that people go so far as to move up a rank (this win brought him to C-), be it hacking (hacking on iCCup lol wtf) or just simply unpausing. It's pretty irritating when people pause, especially if they don't say what's going on. I'm there to play, not to watch a paused screen. Take care of your business in between games. Mute your phone. I don't unpause right away, but I'll countdown from 5 to 0 really quickly and then unpause. If you can't play all the way through, don't bother starting the game. Think about others, too. Read the post above yours? I did say I was on the phone. 'Think about others, too.' this contradicts your entire way of dealing with pauses, so wtf? I mean fuck I'd understand if I was on the phone for like 2+ minutes, but most of the time people will just say 'Can I call you back?' then return to the game 20 seconds later.. that's common sense to me t.t Doesn't matter if you said you were on a phone, I just said "especially", my opinion still stands. Why don't you just mute your phone and call back after the match is over? Works for me. I actually have never paused a game on iccup for the year I've played SC now. How might that be possible...
Well this is a stupidly subjective argument but the fact you can't wait for 1 min> is quite shocking to me

if you receive an important call you lose 50 pts on iccup, duh

I never pause the game when im playing, if someones calling, then I'll just call them back, but I understand why people want to pause, allthough its slightly annoying when this happens.
You make a game, someone joins, they dont pick a race or say anything as an indication of wanting to play, then leave because you're just sitting there waiting. Some times I've just started the game, only to see them leave later couse they werent ready. If you're not ready dont join ffs, or at least say SOMETHING.
And sometimes they pause like 4 seconds after the game has started. Whats up with that, come the fuck on. And when there's slightly lagging, its never "are you lagging" or "it might be me lagging" its "?" or "????" or "?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????" and it just pisses me the fuck off, so I just reply "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" jesus christ I swear to God one of these days its just *rattattattatata*

If the guy who paused justifies himself BEFORE pausing I'll give him 2-3 mins max. If he doesn't, too bad for him, time is money.
|
I've never really understood why people need to pause -_- If it's really important then why don't you just leave the game instead of pausing? With that said, I've usually waited up to 5 mins. Last week a korean dude paused for at least 5 mins without saying anything, so I unpaused and killed him(Although I had a huge advantage before that anyways). To make matters worse, he disced after I unpaused and I never got any points cuz the manual report shit is bugged t.t
|
Other than a phone ringing, what would make someone pause a game? I'd just let that shit go to the answering machine.
|
if they dont say a thing i give them 30 second to about 1 min. Even a "wait" is okay and than ill wait 2-3 mins. If they give a good reason about 5 mins. After that unpause. Im understanding unless you just pause without saying anything. Like "phone" or "door" is so hard to type.
I once had a game guy paused. I said ? and nothing. 30 seconds later i unpause and he immediatetly pauses again. wtf? and than i unpaused it and 30 seconds later get cursed at in broken english.

I guess it really depends who you run across. I have found some very very mannered Koreans =]

Yeah I think that's generally true. Most frustrating game ever , a ZvP, I said something like pp cause I had to take a piss (I drink a lot of water^^) he just unpauses right away, he attacks me with zealots I defend with mutas -> kill his main and his natural with muta hydra while he keeps spamming korean stuff which I can't read but it surely wasnt very friendly, he only has his hidden expansion (defended by cannons and too many HT to break with just hydras) left so I'm waiting for him to gg so I can finally take a fucking piss.
But I suck so bad that eventually after he killed ashit ton of drones with HT drop and a base with DT drop I still somehow miraculously manage to lose that game, while he keeps insulting me and calling me a chobo - turns out the guy was A- the season before(my ZvP is D+ and it was a D lvl game)... arg
hm OK I kinda drifted away from the topic. There can always be something annoying which you didnt expect when you play sc so I always wait as long as the guy says something. If he doesn't I'll do it like chill does and unpause after a while

I got so many free points thanks people like yourself. And for that I'm very grateful

This happened to me in a ZvT. Luckily my opponent was an idiot and I had time to make lurkers just in time to defend my natural. I proceeded to turn around and pressure, and won the game.
Then I hit him with a healthy amount of BM ("You unpause all your games to get to C-?") and built hatcheries under his floating command center. Then I infested it.

Stop lurkers work well with people that unpause.
|
some people just do it for fun.
I played against a korean who disc hacks against non koreans.
|
I cant imagine how could someone be enough of a piece of shit to unpause right away if the other player explained himself, not like 0.5-1 min makes any difference. Thankfully it happened only once or twice to me on Iccup.
|
I usually (whenever i actually play ) tell my opponent that it will only take 1 min.. or 2 mins max when i know it might take longer.
If my opponent pauses without saying anything I'll say '?', if there's no response I unpause. If he's gone on the phone I'll wait 3 mins or so and then ask whats up. I don't think I need to be waiting more than 3 minutes : o
Whenever my mom calls and I'm in the middle of a game I tell her I'm playing starcraft and I'll call her back later after my game's done. That's how it should be done!
|
yeah I unpause it instantly unless its someone I know. I play sc for fun not to sit around and wait for someone else's life. Turn off your phone and sc if it's a issue.
|
I think it's pretty cruel to pause the game in a normal iccup game. I usually don't answer phone when I play, but if I really have to go afk I'll just quit instead of disrupting the game. I believe that is the right thing to do. It's way more bad mannered making your opponent wait for you than to unpause when someone paused. It's a different situation in clanwars though, but as people just use iccup for practising and don't feel like wasting time on someone just because he wants to phone I don't really see any problem...

I also agree with what was said that you shouldn't answer the phone while playing iccup. If you have caller ID and it's important then just quit the game; alternately if you expect an important call then don't play iccup so the issue doesn't come up.
