people like leta, flash, nada they can get around the valkyrie UI (they cant move while they fire) but rather these pros can make them backfire, so they would shoot the missiles, and then move back while doing it. this is like really critical, since against mutas valks cant be too far out because of scourges..
now, anyone know how its done?

could you give a VOD example of this micro? I've only seen Fantasy play around with valkyries and I've never seen him able to do a moving shot with one
edit: holy shit that's awesome if that can be done all the time

valkyrie is a very buggy unit it stay one place to fire missile best i can think its move and patrol but really i don't think its possible to backfire like muta and wriath those agile unit

There's a VOD where Fantasy is firing with his valkyrie while running away from some Mutalisks. I don't remember who he was playing but it was on Holy World or Byzantium 3 =\ The valk was literally shooting backwards while moving though

it looks like it's with stop, but it's really hard to tell.

edit: Easier then I first thought. click toward muta then patrol away from it
I suggest you also spam right click after patrol. Not necessary but decreases the occasional bugout of the valk.
Valkyrie Micro replay that's a rep of me doing the move a few times
you still don't have control over the valk for about 1/2 a sec after it moves backward and the valk will always move a set distance backwards so patrolling further backward does nothing

Does this increase the range of the valkyrie? In the video it seemed to have a really long range.

wow, allows for hit and run with valkyrie.
now you can use valks to snipe ovies like people use mutas to snipe scvs
except you'll need 5 valks to kill ovies in 2 hits each.

it's not a bug. that's how they shoot. they shoot (5?) volleys of halo rockets. once they start the first volley it doesn't matter how far away their target flies, they still get all the volleys in.

It's hard to tell if he's really keeping them moving consistently while firing, since the camera isn't centered around the valkyries at all, but after fiddling around with valks in single player, I figured out how to at least not make valks so vulnerable when attacking. As soon as you get into range, patrol in the opposite direction, and they turn around and fire, and move a little bit away. That's the move you see fantasy's valkyries do in that vid at 11:36, so maybe that's all there is to it?

Also the valkyrie still decelerates after moving a little bit towards the point where you told it to patrol so you can't really deftly dodge scourge or anything

Amazing. This makes Mech even more viable if it can be done consistently. Blanket Halo Rockets and retreat under cover of your Goliaths at the same time. I need to learn/practice this. =o

Valkyrie cooldown is still in effect here, you would need very good unit control to be able to keep this up while building, kind of like muta micro although it is way more difficult due to the fact that the unit is buggy.

I tested it too, and found that it worked with Patrol command, but you cannot do directly opposite direction. Here's example how I found it worked, It worked like a triangle pattern. Imagine the valkyrie's nose is the tip of the triangle. Valkyrie going -->>> X N-------<Valkyrie--> X
When in range and in motion, Patrol command at the either one of the X position. This will make it turn and shoot at the same time. If you patrol command at the N position, the valkyrie will go valknuts.
Bigger valkyrie fleet, the wider the triangle for it to work. Means patrol further at the angle.

kewl.. is this proven and tested?
