Why would they care for your support if they can't get money? Nerd wrath means nothing if there's no $$$ backing up that wrath.
GOMTV can make money in two ways. One is to charge viewers directly. The other is to bombard viewers with commercials/advertisements. Obviously, the ad money's not pouring in. So they're resorting to making people pay.
And if this thread is any indication, foreigners don't care for English commentary enough to actually pay the money required for them to make money.
It's looking more and more that the English stream will probably end this season and Tasteless will have to find himself a new job.

Dear Valued Users.
First, I have to say 'Thank you' for your supports to GOMtv.
There are lots of misunderstanding about the premium service.
'Premium Service' is only for the users who want higher quality of the video service. It's not for profits from the users who want the same vedio service which GOMtv have given since Classic season 1. Even the users who don't purchase the premium service can use the general live-streaming and VOD service which GOMtv have serviced so far.
GOMtv' goal is not to make the massive profits from the service but to expand the e-sports fan base. From the start of global service, GOMtv have paid lots of efforts tangibly and intangibly. Every staffs of GOMtv really appreciate you if you understand the situation and you are generous in the discomfort. GOMtv promise GOMtv will pay every efforts which we can to make the service will be better day by day.
Sincerely.

It doesn't matter if GOM is doing this for profit or to "promote esports." What people are getting upset about is the rediculous price for the high quality stream as well as the delay on the free vods.
$50 is a lot of money for an unneeded service. The high quality vods really aren't that much better than the free vods. This makes people angry because they would subscribe to support esports, which is GOMs stated "mission", if it was set at a reasonable price. From GOMs point of view, they would actually make more money if they set it at a lower price because of the greatly increased volume of subscribers.
Delaying the free vods accomplishes nothing but angering the community. It doesn't match GOMs mission of promoting esports. Why would you purposely delay vods of matches if your goal isn't to simply increase profits. Not releasing the vods at the same time hurts the community.
Hopefully GOM re-evaluates their pricing strategy because they've lost the only thing that was going for them: easy and fast access to english vods.

Some of you are so incredibly cheap hahahaha. $50 is a one-time fee, for basically 100s of hours of entertainment. If you just want to try one VOD in premium quality, it's $2. It's not that outrageous lol. You get the VODs anyway for free in lower quality.
Although really, there's no way they can stop you from downloading the VODs. It's flash video, you can just View Page Source and copy the right link.
|
I just checked GomTV.net and you can watch the free VODs now =/ I don't think it has been 3 days has it?
|
It hasn't. People pulled out their torches and pitchforks a little quick.

The vids seem to be working now...
Did they change their minds? Was it an April fool's jest?

I checked again today... and it works just fine. We can all view them.
What happened?

it's a fee per season so it's around $100-150 a year.
not worth it imo

They were reading TL Blogs and said "Fuck guys we must change this right away."

This is what ten years of living in a bubble economy does to people... no concept of the value of money.
1) Everything you got before for free you still get for free.
2) New stuff is on offer which kicks more ass but needs money.
3) Making everything kick more ass needs money.
4) Making anything at all needs money.
All things considered, if one liked GOM before, why not now?

Anyone know why we can't download the VODs any more?
I got premium membership, and can't find the link to download the VODs. Are they updating the site?
|
The link is on every vod page on the site.
If it doesn't work, the logical course of action is to contact GOM's support team since they are the people who you paid to get the VODs.
And yes, I am a rocket scientist. I guess the world does need people like us... 0_o

oh i m sorry. did i mention that i wrote "can't download the VODs any more?"
mainly because the download link was taken down off of EVERY SINGLE VOD yesterday and the evening before, including ones that I already downloaded. All the support on GOM including the forums are relatively technical, and just thought someone might have a simple straightforward answer that I can get within a couple minutes of asking other people who might also have premium or validate the same issues that I had, instead of sending a reply that would take several days more of my time.
People also posted saying that they had not received replies from support for several days, so this is a much easier way of approaching the situation.
And no I am not an English major, but I do pay attention to little things like that before posting especially condescending replies.
I guess the world does have people like me ...
O_o
And the downloads are back up. I guess they were having an update, but the news and other tickers had no mention of it, which I also took some time to check.
a little disappointed at the quality of people they let be a rocket scientist these days ...

Hi!
First of all, thank you for giving us star craft fans commentaries in english.
I actually think that 50 bucks for a season is well worth the money, IF, the vod audio were synchronized with the video. Sometimes it's off by more than 30 seconds which makes it impossible to sync the audio/video with gom player (max time is 10 seconds). And even if it's less than 10 seconds off in the start of the match, this might change later on so you have to synchronize several times in order to watch a match correctly.
Please try to fix this as soon as possible..
