I think it's wierd that only progamers will be able to win SC2 keys since 80% of the wc3 pros will continue with wc3 and not switch
Every wc3 "pro" will start playing SC2 since wc3 will die the same moment as SC2 is released. You can argue against this all day long but this is what will happen.

War3 is completely dead. Bigger than ever? lol? There's what, a few annual tournaments and the retarded Zotac cup? War3 died in 2005, and it's been lingering around ever since. SC2 will kill it, the only reason people play it because there is not a better modern RTS, and of course DOTA. There's usually less than 2000 games across all realms on Bnet, with an average of 80,000 users on War3. What are the other 78k players doing? DOTA..There will probably be less people on War3 than even SC:BW after SC2 is released. The game is dead, I love War3 a lot but you are being borderline delusional my friend. You are Starshaped right? Anyways back on topic, I don't think any top 100 azeroth/lordaeron player is going to even be able to break the top 20 of the invitational ladder, it's going to be sick how many old pros are going to be playing, and unlike SC:BW being a modern player doesn't give you an edge in Warcraft III, the games are 10x softer and the metagame has marginally evolved. Who the hell visits WCR omg? WCR is a dead site and Wc3 is a living game bigger then ever Not a lot of tournaments? HAHA.. There is streams every single freaking day on 3 different websites and ur saying there is no tournaments? HAHA This site sux, only starcraft geeks. I loved Starcraft before but when I got involved with the community I started to hate it. Just curious, what are the bigger sites you speak of then? I always thought wcreplays was the biggest one. heh. WCR is about the same size as teamliquid. replays.net, gosugamers, replayers.net, mymym.com, sk-gaming are big wc3 sites Some of them are multi-gaming sites but still..
Funny how WC3 is so big but still it's not single website dedicated to it that's not a multi-gaming site. Or is it?

WCR the same size as teamliquid?

Well, WarCraft 3 is already a game for WCG09 while SC2 is not, so it obviously won't be that instantly...
Actually, WarCraft 3 already seems not to be that interesting for european tournaments as it was two or three years ago, but on the same time i still see new tournaments rising up from china which seems to keep this game alive. And China is therefore very crucial, I think if the chinese "heroes" (Sky, TeD, infi, ...) decides NOT to play StarCraft 2, it might even take quite a time till WC3 dies.
But Europe (ESL and stuff) will switch quite fast I think, and hopefully the USA get tired of their console games by then, too :p
Edit: Oh I forgot something. Someone said here, that every WC3-Pro said he will switch to SC what is not quite accurate. Everyone (in WC3 and in SC1) says basically the same thing: They will play SC2, but haven't made a clear desicion and therefor waiting what impact this game will have and if it's any good...

Not really. There are some pages, like inwarcraft.de (german) but none has the same size as teamliquid (wc-replays isn't as big, too ... don't know who brought this up o.O). But on the same time you have to admit, that teamliquid is quite special in this case, since I cannot think of any page which has such a large community for a single game.
On the same time there is also no real need for it, since from the "coverage"-point there are lot of eSport-news-sites which covers everything you might need (but a active community :p).

It might "live" for small time in China, but if SC2 will be that great as we all hope it will die in China as well in a matter of months. Rotterdam (some wc3 player) was interviewed after he played SC2 and he said it was more fun than wc3 and harder to play and he wanted to switch. I think its the same as any SC1 player on the "semi-pro" scene, they will try out SC2 before making the judgement to switch fulltime.. War3 players feel the same.
Rotterdam, while one of the top orcs in europe afew years ago, hasnt been doing great on the scene recently so of course he said he will switch, but that doesnt echo the statements of EVERY war3 pro out there. Thats like saying if one BW pro said he would switch to SC2, that by assumption you assume EVERY bw pro will instantly switch over also. Not quite the case.
I think the important part of this thread is that the people who get the beta keys in this ladder, will definately be deserving of them, and you will most likely see afew of the War3 semi-pros at the tops of the SC2 ladders when the game comes out (esp in North America and Europe, where war3 is big.. not so much in korea, where bw still dominates)

This is totally unfair. If theyre going to do this for war3 they should do it for rock 'n' roll racing and lost vikings too

big warcraft 3 sites?
try http://war3.replays.net/
there's some starcraft stuff on it as well.

Besides, the match making sucks for Rock 'n' Roll racing at the moment, so I cannot see how they could use either game.
Just because they've announced that they are going to bring war3-players to the sc2-beta it does not follow that they won't bring in players from elsewhere. They would be foolish not to take advantage of the battle.net architecture they've built up for war3 which can almost automatically single out worthy beta players.
I would also bet that they players who recieve their beta keys from this competition will, on average, crush the people who recieve their beta keys from attending BlizzCon.

Yeah, lol at that. He couldn't even pull off a successful comeback in WC3 and expects to become a "progamer" (probably just WC3 sense) in a much more competitive environment. Good luck with that.
