It's not that. FA said it: it'd be exponentially harder to do for SC. WC3 top finishers getting it isn't so bad at all.
Anyway, to be truthful, the idea that there is more news with a vague timeline is really exciting to me, even if I can't possibly get it.

Lol sources on that? From what I've seen it's pretty evenly split between "I'll continue playing WC3/retire" and "I'll play SC2".

No real progamer will continue on WC3 unless its synonymous with retiring as the WC3 scene will be totally unexistant as soon as SC2 hits the shelves, if not before that.

Ya, it's already on a serious decline since like a year. I mean, lots of teams releasing their line-ups, leagues changing their formats (WC3L, NGL-One)...

I'm glad that all the good WC3 players will be in SC2 beta. We'll be able to make it clear right from the start that they're not nearly as good at RTS
About BW players getting keys, I'm sure Blizzard will get keys to the top BW players, even with our lack of official Blizzard tournaments. Their community people are community people and know who is who. If not, they know who to ask for a consult. But if you've accomplished nothing and were hoping to have the grand premiere of your BW skill in a SC2 beta key tournament, then unfortunately you might be out of luck.

Seems to me, they're trying to portion out the beta keys.
Most likely, they will hand out beta keys to the hardcore SC community last, so that every one will be on the same playing field, and not just dominated by one group. Also gives them an opportunity to test the balance at steadily increasing levels of play.
Anyway, hopefully I won't end up eating my words

Their probably handing it out to WC3 so not only Koreans take the SC2 beta's because there's no chance any foreigners can win 1 unless they hand them out for top players of each country.

On a side note: It's only solo and not 2v2 AT ladder for example? I remember that getting into top10 in 2v2 ladder was a matter of one weekend if you were good (I mean good enough to get 25-0 streaks and such).
