Hopefully he can get it out soon.
I thought you all needed some reminding.
Wtf no Sansa in this book he took her out and is putting her in the next book wtf T_T
I am trying to finish the book by June. I think I can do that. If I do, A DANCE WITH DRAGONS will likely be published in September or October.
(Yes, I am aware that I have previously said that I hoped to finish by the end of 2008. And before that, I said that I hoped to finish by June 2008, before I went to Spain and Portugal. And before that, I said I hoped to finish by the end of 2007. I know, I know, I know. No, I was not lying. I was wrong. And wrong again. And wrong before that. This time I hope that I am right. But you know, I can't swear that in blood. I write one chapter at a time. One page at a time. One word at a time. And then the next.)
That's all I have. But it's more than Amazon has, or anyone else.
The INSTANT that I finish the novel and put it in the mail to Bantam, I will post that fact here, just as I did for SUICIDE KINGS a few days ago. Until and unless you read that announcement here, believe nothing you hear from any other source.

I picked up A Game of Thrones and read it like a madman and then just swept through the other books. This was last month though so I haven't had to deal with this terribly long wait like everyone else.
Hopefully it will come out in September/October like he says though!

Is it not the most bestest book ever?

Ugh, George R.R. Martin is incompetent and a douche bag to his fans for doing this. I mean honestly, his writing style is nothing special--it's his character development, interweaving of plots, and well thought out universe that makes the books interesting. And if thats the case, why the hell doesn't he just outline what he wants to write and hire small shrimp writers to do the actual writing for him. From his blogs, you can tell the reason why it takes so long is because at this point, he just kinda can't stand sitting and writing another 1000 page book. So give it to somebody else to do, asshole.

No Sansa might actually be a good thing. Her chapters have always struck me as boring and sometimes, annoying. I think we need a POV from someone in the Eyrie though, maybe Littlefinger?
|
I never even finished the 4th book, it was too boring. He just seemed to be going through motions; his writing lost all of the magic it had in AGoT.
I'll probably check out his next book though. After I refresh on the plot line.

Sure hope this comes out...Have already forgotten most of the plot and am a bit more than halfway through (book 6, halfway). I remember Arya being the most interesting character...

For those of you who are tired of waiting.. go start/read the Dark Tower series by Steven King. George RR Martin's SOIAF series is by far my favorite.. but this is a fucking close second (far->close? I know..)

Inc I love you and your reading tastes.
Gj on being top dog usa over at iccup.

I like his books, and as long as he finishes the series before he croaks, I'll be happy. I'd rather he take his time and get it right than rush it.

And to those of you bitching about long waits, try the NEAR DECADE King waited to pick up this series again, only to push out the last half in a year. What was worse was that he wrote like 10 novels in between, each of with had something to do witht he story, BUT YOU DIDNT KNOW UNTIL THE END.
O god that made me sick.

/end rant Just you shut your mouth! You're one of them, aren't you, who wanted Starcraft 2 last year with half a campaign for each race, adult swim graphics and non-existent macro mechanics? Do we want a shit sequel to the best RTS of all time? No. Do we want a shit sequel to the best fantasy epic of all time? No. You might, but NO!
As long as Mr. Martin finishes this story before either he or I die, I'm good with it.

Robert Jordan died, it isn't inconveivable that Martin takes another 2345235234 years for each book and he dies too
Dark tower eh? is it fantasy/epic novel type, or is it horror like what he usually writes? maybe i'll check it out

Go, Gunslinger! ^__^
As for G. Martin I found it almost impossible to finish the first book of this series. It was ridiculous with like 20 people dying in sword battles on every page. The army battles were poorly described too. I don't know... Maybe the translation was shit and I should've looked for the english version. Or maybe I expected too much of him after reading 5 books of John Steinbeck and some by O. Henry.
Anyway, I was disappointed in G. Martin's writing.

It's one of my favourite series, i really hope he can be ready with it soon, but when i write something myself it also takes forever and i'm really unsatisfied with what i've written. Seems to me also the great have these problems. And about Sansa moving to the next book, it all depends on how far all the remaining characters progress in ADWD, since if they move futher, then i would really miss to hear about Littlefinger's plans.

You shot who in the what now?
Fall this year??? This is beginning to remind me of Star Wars Ep. 3. Lucas kept me waiting 3 fucking years after episode 2, and then I lost interest. Haven't seen it to this day.
George R.R. Martin, if you read this, don't make the same mistake that Lucas made.

Its a good thing or he would have ruined the series even more.

I'm also one of those people who picked up the series pretty late, but god damn i raped through all the books in such a ridiculously short time. I'm actually a little dissapointed that he's taken out sansa.
I also must mention this in every post regarding fantasy books. If you're bored and need something to read to pass the time. Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. She's my favourite author and her character development is so so good. It's more dark style fantasy and no one can write emotions for a character like Hobb. :D

while books 5-8 and 10 were completely and utterly boring, winter's heart and a knife of dreams were fine in my opinion. winter's heart might be my favorite book out of all of them
