Are you really saying that from Fires of Heaven up to A path of Daggers the books are boring? Why?
They seem to me like the most intense books of WoT. I mean... The death of Rahvin, Dumai's wells, Sammael's hunting, the plots unweaving, Mat's deals, fixing the weather, raping of the Seanchan in A path of Daggers, Rand going stone cold to almost everything...
Yeah, Winter's heart kicks ass too!

a lot happened, but I didn't think the writing was that well done. I drifted a lot while I was reading those books and would end up skipping random pages way more frequently than normal.
Winter's heart was the first one in a while that I read the whole thing more than once

Hhaha Mr. Martin actually brings up the fact in his blog on live journal that many people keep telling him hes old fat and they'd rather he not go and die on him ahh la Robert Jordan(most over hyped author ever, yes I don't like him )

i picked up the malazan series (thx nyo) during the wait for the next martin book and it's absolutely awesome! it's the slowest i've ever read a fantasy series (in words per minute, not pages per day) and i love it

I actually bought Game of thrones but never really went on and read it. I think I should now though, after all the workload from school is over.

Dude, his writing style is basically what they teach in creative writing for 7th graders. There is absolutely nothing unique or difficult about it. Read what I said. Any up and coming writer can easily mimic his writing style. All they need are the plot ideas that George RR Martin have already thought up of but is too lazy to write down. You would have the best of both worlds--the plot and backdrop of the series, without the long wait time of the books. Honestly, how can any author write well if he struggles to write every word in a 1000 page book. He's just doing it because his publisher told him to do it and his other books are shit.
Edit: At least Blizzard cares about Starcraft 2 and wants to make it a good game. I have no problems waiting for a good game if I /know/ that the people making it are commited and actively trying to make it a good game. George RR Martin is probably sick of this series and it's probably going to show.

Umm do you even follow Martins blog he cares about the series thats why its taking so long not because his publishers are pushing him.If that were the case then we would have seen his next book in the series before now. There is a link in the op for his blog. Also do you know how many project he has going on? Wild cards ,conventions, lectures, workshops, football(lol),Editing others work, his offices got broken into not to long ago etc.Hes a perfectionist and as such is ensuring we the readers get a quality book one which he feels is good fo him the series and for us the fans.
Edit: I personally don't mind how long it takes as long as he holds the next book to the same standards as the last books. And as far as any 7th grader could write this, come on are you serious?Id love to get some of these books by 7th graders that rival Martins work.hahaha man get a clue dude.

I am so excited for this. I love this series and actually just finished rereading it - I can't believe all the things I missed the first time around. It was epic.

You're right that a writer will never hand over his series to others. I never said I expected him to--I just think it'd be a lot more efficient. But then again thats why he's a writer and not a businessman.
You're also right about him not owing jack to me, or any of his fans--it is his work and his own ideas. But then this becomes an issue of to what degree celebrities have an obligation to their fans. Bisu, Boxer and Savior don't owe jack to their fans, but they do things for their fans anyway. You could argue that they're obligated by their team to develop a fan base and get sponsorship, but then that becomes an obligation to their team, not the fans. The fans getting benefit is simply a byproduct of contractual obligations to the team. The parallel analogy for authors would be what George RR Martin's contractual obligation is with his publisher. While I don't know the specifics of the contract, I'm sure the publishers have at least at some point thought about the fact that delaying a book 2 years probably isn't good for publicity. While he may not owe me anything, he does owe the publishers something contractually; by extension, as likely purchasers of the book, what fans think should matter to him.
And yes, I do like George RR Martin's work. I just don't think he's taking his job very professionally.

I appreciate you saying this.My point is If your going to talk crap at least get the facts first.Again in the op there is a link to his blog go read a few pages and you might see that he is concerned about the series and the fans.
Again if it was just pushing the book out for publishers he would have had it out in what 2007 2006 when it was first supposed to be released.
I appreciate your apology.

no sansa i can deal. but shit.. i haven't done any reading into dance with dragons, so if somone can inform me on this it would be great . In feast for crows as you guys remember half of the main characters were left out of the book. will dance with dragons cover the other peoples adventures during the time of feast for crows or will it just pick up from where feast for crows left off and cover whoever martin decides to cover?

It will also extend a bit past the end of AFFC so you might find out what happens to Brienne and Arya.

I hope to never read about Brienne again, what an uncharismatic character. Arya is kinda cool tho~!

ASoiaF is one of my favorites (if not my favourite) series. I read the first four when AFfC came out, so I've also been waiting for a while. Yea I really prefer better quality work to a rushed book, but I really hope this time he keeps his word. That's one thing to be a perfectionist, but he should know it and not give an expected date and not respect it ><
I reailly disliked Sansa as first, but it changed when she started to grew a bit and then with Littlefinger, it's much better. But Arya will always be cooler
And yea, regarding Robert Jordan, at least Knife of Dreams really picked the series up. I think what people disliked about the middle books was how much political stuff there was. I didn't dislike it, but it's much different than the first five books let's say. I'm glad Brandon Sanderson is going to write the twelve one tho. If anyone want good books to pick up, read his. Elantris was pretty good and the Mistborn trilogy was pretty awesome.

I can't stand reading Brienne's chapters it's such a snooze fest

Also, I'd really like to know what happens with Cersei's and Margaery's trial...although I think I'll have to wait for the sixth book for that
