If you want to go AMD, I'd definitely get a Phenom II.

Antec 900 Case Intel e8400 Cpu Nvidia 8800 GTS 512(outdated now, nowadays i'd go 4850) Gigabyte DS3L LGA 775 Motherboard Corsair HX650 Powersupply WD Raptor 160 Gb 10k RPM OS drive(Nowadays there's velociraptor and SSDs) Seagate 500 GB 7200.11 storage drive(had no problems with it, have updated to newest firmware) TRUE 120 heatsink with a Scythe 1600 RPM fan.(not really necessary, stock will work fine) Basically wanted a lower high end machine that could run most new titles at an acceptable framerate with decent quality settings. Self built it costed me 11000 NOK(1600 USD). In europe prices are way higher than US though. From the above build the only thing that are really outdated is the graphics card. Everything else should work fine. Be aware that Seagate 7200.11 had a firmware bug that caused bricking, but it has been fixed now.

Now I buy this card (with free shipping) from newegg for $145: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130420 (actually I might get 4850 instead, but that is also about the same price) And I have computer that seems to suit exactly what you said you are buying yours for but I spend $630 And I'll be a happy little kid playing SC2 and D3 and have it for other normal computing needs. I recommend you save the extra money and if you wanna spend it, buy a friggin ginormous monitor or a sweet, sweet sound system.

Anyway, that computer is pretty much a beast. It should serve you pretty good. And if you are cool with spending that much (its still $1,200 in US dollars), then you will be happy with a very solid computer.
