I agree with Olbermann in that Bush's term obviously was not a good one in the grand scheme of things, but that doesn't make this good journalism.

Just taking into consideration the sheer amount of decisions/comments that a President is going to make we could make a laundry list of all the things each president in history did wrong. Of course we would have zero perspective about how good the various administrations were if we didn't weight the positives with the negatives. I agree with Olbermann in that Bush's term obviously was not a good one in the grand scheme of things, but that doesn't make this good journalism. It's not so much a list of what Bush "did wrong" as it is a list of times when Bush revealed himself to be an appalling example of a human being. Maybe other modern presidents could compare, but that doesn't excuse any of it. This kind of journalism may be a bad thing in most circumstances, but even with the greatest degree of objectivity it is near impossible to populate a counter-list of positive aspects to the Bush administration. Olbermann's speech could be considered important so that people realize the magnitude of negativity which impacted the country during Bush's time in office - often as direct result of action taken by the administration. Consequently, one might hope that a greater number of people will become politically aware, and more able to act against deleterious politicians in the future ( as opposed to...ensuring that they stay in office).

ours.. "Corrupt politicians make the other ten percent look bad." –Henry A. Kissinger and he knows, his has been in the thick of it for years.. + Show Spoiler + On January 17 2009 09:39 Plexa wrote: Well to be fair Bush did do the best he could! Which was fucking piss poor! it really depends on his goals.. 1. if he was trying to do the best he could for his nation you "could" be right.. 2. if he was trying to improve humanity he probably couldn't not have done worse short of starting a nuclear war 3. now if it was striving for wealth, influence and power for himself and his family, he actually did pretty good 4. as for history, every knows history is written by the winners.. I am so cynical on this issue that I find the first option doubtful because I honestly think he never had his nation as a first priority. I find the second option laughable even though he would often harper on how he was bringing democracy and freedom to the middle east. In all likelihood he was going for option 3 and never really did give option 4 much thought. I suppose nothing is black and white and he might have had at one or another time all four interests in his mind - still I know which one usually took his priority.. He was not a patriot no matter his pretense. Some might have see him for a fool, but I saw only the pretense of character and principles gradually morph into early dementia, while all along his family and those in his own circle of influence grew in wealth, influence and power. The irony of it all is that people give him too much credit for his faults, for all we know he was essentially the puppet of many and thus my choice of quote.. The senate could have put a stop or curbed off much what of what occurred but when all was said and done, business as usual and nothing was done.. But yes.. I doubt anyone will argue today that he was one of the worst US presidents we have had in modern history.
