No, not that Soul.
This Soul.
(orky)Soul, SK.Soul, Soul[pG], one of the most successful Starcraft gamers and one of the most successful RTS gamers of all times.
His accomplishments include, but are not limited to, 5-5 professional Starcraft record in Korea, qualifying three times as a WCG.Russia representative(twice in WC3 and once in Age of Empires) and AMD PG Challenge victory.
Well, now he is venturing to prove himself in the newest fad in the RTS genre- the Texas Hold'em. He is, too, a poker prodigy.
One minute from now, the final table of WSOP will set off. Ivan Demidov(that's his name) is about to kick ass, he is second in chips:
Dennis Phillips - 26,295,000 Ivan Demidov - 24,400,000 Scott Montgomery - 19,690,000 Peter Eastgate - 18,375,000 Ylon Schwartz - 12,525,000 Darus Suharto - 12,520,000 David 'Chino' Rheem - 10,230,000 Craig Marquis - 10,210,000 Kelly Kim - 2,620,000
And that means he is well on his way to get the coveted first place prize - $9,152,416.
2nd- $5,809,595 3rd- $4,517,773 4th- $3,774,974 5th- $3,096,768 6th- $2,418,562 7th- $1,772,650 8th- $1,288,217 9th- $900,670
WAR SOUL!

That's what I was thinking haha
Retiring from pro SC automatically makes you awesome at poker apparently

poker and sc actually have decent amount in common, so I guess that it's not that surprising that good sc players would also be good at poker.
Just to take texas hold em as an example, you know the cards in the middle of the table, and you know your own cards.
You need to deal with probabilities and good guessing off of limited information in a fairly small timeframe, both of which are required in sc, as well as poker

I would say the primary factor is drive.

Ugh I'm getting tired of people referring to the apparent links between bw and poker a disproportionate amount of times... I doubt the main reason why broodwar players retire to poker is because broodwar is similar to poker.... there are tons of things more similar to broodwar.

actually...it seems to be trend in general for competitive rts gamers
more than a fair share seem to take up poker after they quit the scene

Its true to all gamers in general, not just RTS players. Travis is right, it all has to do with drive.

Ivan Demidov is also the first person to make final table of the WSOP main event and the WSOP Europe main event in the same year
|
|
Schwartz just took around 3m from Dennis Phillips and now Ivan is the chip leader
|
Makes me jealous, so young and if he wins he's set for LIFE
|
Demidov and Phillips in a huge pot, Demidov just went all in and Phillips folds and hands Demidov over 10m. Demidov now in a commanding chip lead.
Phillips left with slightly over 8m Demidov now has 35m

FA is right and whats sick is that this dude had a successful SC career, even more successful WC3 career, a short lived but also successful AoE career, and now is kicking ass in poker, and he's still trailing behind elky as far as accomplishments concerned. Just goes to show u how fucking insanely awesome elky is.
