My wife manages the software dev. studio I started in 2012. You think I run it? HA! That would be an inmate running the asylum. The guy running Godot needs to find a good financial specialist and a good manager. "going postal" The origin of the phrase derives from a series of incidents involving U.S. Postal workers, who shot and killed fellow workers and members of the public in 1986. The first recorded use was in an article by Karl Vick's 'Violence at work tied to loss of esteem', published on December 17th 1993 Sometimes a corp will spend 10s of millions or 100s of millions on a game and then pay a volunteer community manager $0. This person is the public face of their game. Everyone is shocked and surprised when the volunteer CM is a communist and hates video games and all the players. The video game corps, who do not take games seriously at all, want to save $80K so they pay the CM nothing. The CM burns the community to the ground. Rinse and Repeat. Gerald might not be perfect. However, relative to the full spectrum of all CMs he is well above average. No surprise that he is not a volunteer. Gerald is a seasoned, experienced and mature professional. If he leaves Frost Giant I hope a great game studio hires him as their CM.

They are responsible for terrible decisions in all departments. Financial, art style, game design, sound design, and community management. Other than lead devs I'd ignore studios with someone from the FG artstyle department. This is just insufferable. But because it's hard to track the names of the regular employees, I'll give it a slip.

Nah, the high salary of all the people leading this pile o s company is clearly justified, just ask the discord people. Its the next gen RTS after all. Lol Any word on the street if 3v3 is gonna release or if FGS shuts down before that? With player numbers this horrible and the lack of any aspect worth saving, i estimate the chance of getting outside money 0%.

Tim Morten did a blog post months ago talking about weather and lighting effects they're working on, and how all the maps they had so far were just default tilesets made for testing purposes and never received art attention. But why not show some of the better stuff they're working on? Or at least their plans. They show the public something that's extremely unfinished and then only casually clarify that it's unfinished or a placeholder in a separate post that 99% won't see. What use is keeping things under wraps when the bad version is already out there? Their Business Lead spoke in a small interview last year about how they've been unable to gain the funding they were looking for so the game will likely be launched in EA for financial reasons in whatever state it's in. Why not say that to everyone? Make it clear the game is launching much earlier than they wanted and that much of it is still placeholder. They probably believe that to be a bad marketing strategy compared to saying the future of RTS is here. But saying that with the game in it's current state leaves a sour taste in people's mouths and legions of haters in every comment section

Naturally so, I didn’t personally see much ‘shilling’ though. Content creators and pros really wanted the game to be good, and were thus initially enthusiastic. Something fresh after a decade+ of playing a game that isn’t really supported anymore, with a tournament circuit that’s still unconfirmed? It’s to be expected that many were excited about the prospect of a new ‘killer app’, and subsequently dropped it when it’s very much not that in its current state. But I wouldn’t go as far as categorising some enthusiasm and expectation/hype as shilling necessarily Not really much different from the wider community, especially Kickstarter backers On October 18 2024 23:16 Fango wrote: It's not really his job, but dev blogs or showcases would really help quench some of the hate the community has. Not that I play much of sc2 but SG just doesnt do it for me. I am actually enjoying Godsworn quite a bit, it sucked 5hrs from me today, there's a certain charm to it that makes even AI games feel decent

This is an industry wide problem. An industry member company promotes a game they just made as "the greatest game playing experience in your entire life ever". Then the game is average or worse so people like "Angry Joe" get angry. Next, a few employees of the company that made the game fight and argue publicly with 10 out of the 250,000 people who bought the game. FG smartly avoided that last step. So, kudos to their PR team. EDIT: also, kudos to every single employee of FG for never firing back at consumers even in the face of unfair criticism.

If it wasn't $30 I would play it myself. But I enjoyed watching Grubby play that. It's only made by a couple people too. Incredible what they were able to do I hope they get hired to a big company.
