And Clem bringing the heat. Armani looked totally lost. Curious to see which Maru shows up for the ST2

I could see him keep rubbing his shoulders, and his general gameplay was very poor compared to what he is capable of. He looked disinterested the whole time (could also be the late night, and also ping issues.) About Time vs Reynor, Time could have taken both games off Reynor if he was more aggressive in his game. He did so much damage to Reynor in the early game and just sat back. He still needs some improving on his game sense.

He won King of Battles from Alpha X, wich was as hard to win as EPT Season finals. You don t win events like this, if you don t care about the money, the points and winning stuff in general. You re not striving to be the very best in something and actually succed in that, if you don t care.

Even during KoB, he looked disinterested. But his level of play is certainly much lower compared to when he played KoB and the GSL finals. Night and day.

Nobody ever asked him why he plays godlike on one day and then bad on the other. Maru plays a very offensive and on the edge style, so he sometimes can lose to stupid things, even when he prefers to play safer. But yesterday it didn't look so, he just played a bland Terran without any of his finesse. So either he didn't care or there were other issues. And since we don't know, many prefer the way he doesn't care as that's what his playstyle kinda shows.

Just like he didn't care at BlizzCon when he lost 0-3 to sOs, after having said he wanted to win the title. It's just a pathetic excuse, for some reasons Maru tends to perform better in offline events, in Asia, possibly if the format allows preparation; this doesn't mean he can't do well in weekenders or even online events but I was very surprised to see him play that convincingly at KoB whose conditions of play aren't different from those of DH Finals.

This is not the first time we've seen unfamiliar play styles (Snute, Neeb) beat historically better players (Rain, Zest). Snute and Stephano started these upsets in HOTS; Neeb started winning like that in 2016, now he is joined by Serral, Reynor, and Clem. It's not just Maru, many Korean players have lost like that to Foreigners We can all make theories but at the end of the day, Maru decided not to show up against Clem (and Armani). if you disrespect Clem like that now, he will just beat anyone. Neeb even talked about it, he prepared for Clem. And look at that, Neeb beat Clem because he respects Clem. Maru lost because either he never prepared for him, or he doesn't know his style, either way, he didn't show up.

It's not like koreans are superior by themselves and you need to play unorthodoxically to beat them; not anymore, at least. Clem is winning by micro, macro and multitasking, Serral dominated by almost never cheesing and straight out outplaying koreans; it just happens that foreigners can be as strong or even stronger than koreans nowadays.

I mean I said historically better (more trophies, better resume etc.) for a reason... but yes, you are right, that doesn't mean that you should be giving excuses to players, they just don't show up, that's it. There is no need to speculate because then you end up making players sound worse than they are or for lack of a better term, lazy, or that bs thing you guys say known as 'they don't care', that's not helpful at all. Of course Maru and all the other pros care, that's not for us to decide. Saying this just diminishes their value, and it is not helpful to anyone

Or is it the type of thing that won't go away no matter how much you rest and recuperate, and they're just looking to get that last bit in? Might be a culture thing? Byun went to the army in advance because he couldn't play anymore because of wrists and after two years he still has issues as shown by his latest Code S games; you need a lot of rest and/or surgery in order to heal properly so they might think it's not worth.
