Personally I kinda like most of it so far, the game looks good and not that dissimilar from the old one. I also don't mind lack of ladder during beta release. This will help them iron out any potentially game breaking bugs before putting reforged people on the ladder with TFT people. I mean, it would be pretty sad if you had some unfair advantages/disadvantages based on the game client alone, not to mention potential frustration from game crashes and such. Was it stated that old and new WC3 will play together the same ladder???

For me, the biggest problem with the visuals is the style, not the execution. But maybe the execution makes the style seem unworkable.

I think a pretty good indicator of the state of the beta is the fact that since the initial couple days of playing it when it first came out/undead release Grubby has barely touched it. Grubby has already done all the testing that is needed for now. Not really a huge benefit to continuing. I commend Blizzard for remembering what the term "beta" used to be. This is supposed to be rough and it is. Betas are generally not supposed to be your "daily driver" for gaming.

I’m still salty that I’ve never ever got a beta invite in over 20 years of buying Blizzard stuff However this is more than made up for by Blizzard betas actually being beta builds and tests for technical issues and balance issues. I’m not sure how much useful feedback they’ll be getting as what I’m reading (not so much here but elsewhere) is way too negative and hyperbolic IMO. A bunch of issues shouldn’t be too hard to tweak, or even add additional graphics options, like a ‘stronger colours’ setting would definitely help units stand out more for example, which I do think is one of the issues. Most of the changes thus far I actually like too, acolytes actually use their knives in combat, some heroes can spawn male or female versions, statue auras have visual feedback on what units they’re affecting which I think should help new players especially in gauging the heal/mana restore range etc.

What do you mean by that? Just looking at his YouTube channel it shows that he has released at least one Reforged video every single day since the beta started (and last one was 1 hour ago at the time I'm writing this, the previous one 20 hours ago). Please define what did you mean by "barely touched it since release" because to me it looks like he's quite involved with it.

The two videos he uploaded yesterday that you're looking at: "Care For A Cocktail? (Game played on 29-October-2019)", "Enter the BLOODLUST (Game played on 5-November-2019)" The 29th being the day the beta came out, and the 5th being the day Undead came out.

Reforged is currently in Closed BETA. The next patch is likely to include optimizations, better team coloring, and queue fixes. Best guess is maybe 12 November or 19 November. Will play Reforged sparingly until next Update!

I like the reforged look so far... but (surprisingly) original war3 looks very clean still... easy to tell what's happening. Which is funny because when it was released everyone complained that they couldn't tell what was going on. Was it just my imagination or does the paladin have like a Spanish accent now? (I kind of liked it! Sounded cool...) And Wombat, if you pre-order reforged and check off Warcraft 3 for beta preferences, you will get it.

That is because you have played/watched it so much, being mostly a Starcraft player I haven't played a lot of WC3 and it is very difficult for me to read, big battles pretty much look like a random mess of particle effects.

This is a point that bears repeating for those who thing Reforged looks completely unreadable. The graphics could be clearer, but there's no world in which the new graphics will be as easy for us to read as original War3 immediately.

Well, it's just as hard to tell what's going on SC2 with just huge blobs of units clashing and effects going off over them. I'd say it's even harder because you have 2 giant blobs, they collide, stuff happens and one blob is no more in an instant. Super hard to follow if you're not used to it. In WC3 you can usually tell each unit apart (since they don't blob) and it's a matter of just learning visual effects for spells. Still, easiest to follow would probably be BW because units didn't blob there and you had much more limited number of visual effects that could go off and they were more pronounced because of simpler graphics. In general, improving graphics usually makes visual cues harder to read. I know it sounds weird but with better graphics you get more particle effects per instance and you kind of have to make it more elaborate or it'll look out of place. Just compare the 2 pictures and tell me which one is easier to read: Ask anyone who had nothing to do with any of those games before to describe what they see in the picture and for Brood War most people will probably give you quite accurate account of what's happening there. For SC2 even I can't really tell... And it just gets worse if you up the scale of engagement... For SC2 even if you're familiar with the game you're pretty much guessing what units take part and how many of them are there. Trying to discern what is exactly going on is hard. BW on the other hand is pretty straightforward and self-explanatory even with bigger battles.

I think people just severely underestimate the power of familiarity and that biases perception as to what graphical presentation is clear/not clear. I remember going in eSports solidarity to a bar viewing of The International. Don’t like MOBAs and don’t play them, but did play WC3 DotA and know how the game works. Had zero clue what the hell was going on, but I imagine visual clarity is there in the game otherwise it wouldn’t have the following it does. Us WC3 vets in the local scene are trying to convince SC2 folks to give the game a shot, and many are pretty pumped for Reforged and having a new RTS to play. Almost all of the visual complaints are coming from us, while the latter camp overwhelmingly think the game looks actually good or at least passable. I just think we should be a bit cognisant of our own biases here and try to unpick what is ‘it was like this in my childhood’ from what is actually bad or could be improved, it is quite difficult though! I would much prefer if they returned footies to being small again, for a couple of reasons. You can make the MK (a fucking dwarf) smaller again. I think another important reason to do so is that it emphasises the size of other units that should be big and imposing. Grunts, Tauren or Aboms should have a more visible size advantage over puny regular humans, even if it’s exaggerated vs WoW proportions.
