Because this one being t1 https://liquipedia.net/warcraft/Rejuvenation_Cup/1 and this one being t2 https://liquipedia.net/warcraft/Doubi_Ancient_of_Wonders_Cup makes absolutely ZERO sense whatsoever. Basically same players (7/10 same, both tournaments have top 15 player rosters), basically the same format, basically the same prizepool, both are online, etc.. Doubi should totally be considered a tier 1 tournament. Just silly.

The problem is there are were a bunch of events that were "almost tier 1" at the end of this year. So do we mark all of them as tier 1 or do we have no tier 1 events in 2022 for wc3.

Well if Rejuv is considered tier 1 then this Doubi one DEFINITELY needs to also be treated as tier 1. That's all i'm saying. Let's be consistent. Idk about the other tournaments, but Doubi definitely hits the historical bill of t1. it looks so out of place here.. https://liquipedia.net/warcraft/Tier_2_Tournaments just.. why?

Of those I’m leaning a bit towards WC3 I think. SC2 gave me a ton of great times as we built a local scene of SC nerds, but as a game I always found WC3 to be a bit more enjoyable. And I don’t think I have the time right now to figure out AoE’s intricacies, although I’ll definitely dip in a bit How does I Warcraft 3 these days without buying Reforged? Do I need both a RoC and TFT copy? I’d buy Reforged for convenience but there’s a reason I cancelled my pre-order and I’d rather not if possible. It appears basically the only account I’ve ever lost to a hack was my alt race account on SC2, which coincidentally was also the one I registered my WC3 keys on! I also didn’t notice for a good 3 years so that made recovery impossible ![]() Also where are the good Discord channels etc? It seems most have migrated there these days. Cheers in advance! I’m familiar with the B2W guys and all that they do but aside from that not too sure where people hang out these days

It's where all of the pros and high level players play. There are also plenty of lower level players / noobs playing on there as well. Active 1v1 and 4v4 scene.

SC2 is great, but I felt in need of a bit of a change, so I tried returning to WC3. If you haven't seen it yet, you may be interested in that there are currently two ongoing series on YouTube where Grubby teaches WC3 to SC2 pros, one with Harstem and one with uThermal. It's both entertaining and instructive, as Grubby gives very concrete and condensed advice at a high level. That said, I found returning to WC3 rather challenging, as obviously there are almost only veterans left on the ladder. Which in turn is why I today purchased Age of Mythology: Retold, where given its recent release more beginners should be active. Probably I'll jump around a bit between SC2, WC3, and AoM for a while.

I'm not going to say there isn't a learning curve for War3. The game is incredibly, massively deep. But it's also accessible. If you want to jump in and just build stuff and press buttons, you can still do that. In fact, doing that on W3Champions is even easier than on Bnet since the ranking is more reliable - just lose enough and you'll encounter plenty of new or returning players just like you. They also tend to be a lot more well-mannered than the denizens of Bnet. Grubby has tons and tons of informational videos as well as builds and guides in many forms, but he's just one available resource. WC3Gym is another great community specifically aimed at helping newbies acclimate. Just like any other RTS - and especially legacy RTS, you have to set your own goals. If you never want to learn things like creep routes and builds and unit micro, you can still have a lot of fun in the game. But if you do, nothing is especially difficult to apply in the game, though there is plenty of arcane, convoluted, and niche information waiting to be discovered that will help you to gradually improve.

Yeah all that stuff is great, I’ve learned a ton watching Grubby especially, although half times it’s very niche but useful info on various mechanics. Probably have some of the more arcane stuff floating around in my brain but lacking some basic builds haha Where do the cool kids hang out these days? I’m assuming it’s mostly Discord servers? Any recommendations? Thanks for the responses! I think part of why WC3 appeals is that it’s a bit more improvisational and dynamic in certain ways. Other games in the genre it feels you’re a lot more locked into your gameplan by how macro heavy they are and build orders are king.

Other games in the genre it feels you’re a lot more locked into your gameplan by how macro heavy they are and build orders are king. W3Champions discord for platform discussion/tech help/moderation reports, WC3Gym discord to find direct guidance/training partners/coaches, Grubby's discord to find some of his more curated beginner-friendly builds in handy pinned messages. And you're completely right about the dynamic nature of War3. BW was really build-order focused, and SC2 went even further in that direction. In those games, it feels almost like a solo experience where you're a sprinter and you're running practice sets trying to get your best time. The existence of creeps, items, heroes, and upkeep in War3 add significant wrinkles that require a totally different approach to analyzing game state.
