ESL Open #229: herO, Clem, MaxPax win

TL.net ESPORTS 4 Posts May 29 2024 00:16 GMT #1 2022-23 ESL Pro Tour - Open Cups: Week #229 (May 27th) by Wax "Business as usual" is often the story in the ESL Open Cups, and so it was once more in Week #229 as herO, Clem, and MaxPax were the winning trio for the eighth time. herO went on his usual run of destruction on the Korean server, this time defeating NightMare, Solar, SHIN, and Creator on his way to victory. The Korean server cup also featured the biggest upset of the week as Rex took out Dark 2-1 in the RO16, before subsequently being eliminated by Creator. While not an upset, the EU server cup did deliver a surprise as ByuN entered the competition from his bootcamp at the Shopify headquarters in Canada ahead of DreamHack Dallas. The Korean Terran managed to make it to the RO4, but was knocked out 2-0 by MaxPax as the incognito Dane booked his usual date with Clem in the finals. The final result was Clem taking a 3-2 victory, continuing his recent run of good form against his cup rival. After skipping the American server competition for the past few weeks, Clem decided to get back in the habit and try to win the weekly double. However, MaxPax got his revenge by taking out Clem 2-0 in the semifinals, and then proceeded to 3-1 Solar to win the weekly title. In non-ESL cup competitions, Clem won Kung Fu Cup Summer #4 (3-1 against Solar in the finals), while Creator won KSL #51 (3-2 vs Oliveira).
