Damn shame all they care for is money from the people that will buy, play for 6 months max and then abandon the game while we, the hardcore audience will be left with this garbage looking game..

This seriously doesn't look like a Bli$$ard game, but like something a medium sized chinese studio will make for some weird MMORPG type of game..

And I've just wanted them to make this Starcraft Remastered style.. They've changed literally everything instead.

I’m perfectly happy with stock WC3 already if it’s optimised a bit for modern systems, I only really care for remasters if they do that, bring something to another platform or can get a new audience to an old game.

Many of my SC2 buddies who love RTS but were a bit too young for WC3 first time around are pretty pumped for a new RTS to get their teeth into. They’re pretty thin on the ground, it’s SC2 or BW which is hard as nails amongst sizeable RTS properties.

Amongst our group anyway WC3 vets including myself don’t really like many elements of the aesthetic, people who didn’t play WC3 all think it looks fine and wonder what we’re complaining about.

I don’t personally care for the aesthetic myself but equally would rather the game appeal to new people and draw new gamers into RTS than purely appease fans of the original who are in their 30s and 40s now


the thing is.. I really don't think many new faces will stick with this game past 6 to 12 months from the release of "Reforged"... so what I afraid is going to happen is that all the people that Bli$$ard want to milk of their money will leave (wow players and people that played single player in their childhood and never played again in 15 years) and us, the old guard will be left with an aesthetically shitty product.. I hope it will not happen, but it might.. I think this is exactly what happened with the Starcraft Remaster.

TBH I really was hoping they would go for the SC:R route aesthetically + some important QOL changes.. I would be very content if they did.. and I think it would attract many people, too because they would immediately recognize that this game is actually wc3 that they knew and love..

I don't like the aesthetic much either, but I'm getting mixed messages here. You said that they just milked people's money from SC:R and left us with an aesthetically shitty product, but then you say you were hoping that they would go for the SC:R route aesthetically?

And honestly, if you think there would be a significant infusion of long term newblood from this remaster, you probably were mistaken anyway. Most people will drop it after some months no matter how good it is, because 90% of people who buy the game have no interest in the ladder in the first place, and secondly, of those 10% that do? They won't like facing against veterans of 10+ years experience for very long. Most of the people who might be interested in ladder will fatigue real quick. Especially since we're going to be able to smurf just like before.

But I agree, no ladder on release seems like a bad look. They should just delay the thing if they don't have it ready. I understand that most people who buy the game won't be interested in ladder anyway, but really... seems kind of half finished. Then again, SC:R didn't (doesn't?) have 2v2 ladder at release either. Which is also stupid.

What I mean is that many people bought SC:R, even some of the old guard came back, played for around 6 to 12 months and then left. Only a handful of people actually stayed around. And that I fear that same is going to happen to WC3:R

aestheticaly-wise I would love them to go for the SC:R route, because they literally just REMADE Starcraft in more detail and HD graphics. And this is what I want to see when they are "remaking" aka "reforging" a great old classic.

But I guess WoW players buckerinos are more important than oldschool WC3 veterans feelings toward the game.

I was expecting that, tbh.. but not on such a scale. This whole WC3:R is a massive disaster imo.

I wonder if no ladder means no matchmaking or no multiplayer at all. FFA was great in WC3 and I think that most people who played it later on during its life actually played the custom maps rather than ladder (DotA, tanks, warships, element TD, uther's challenge, I've sunk countless hours into those).

Grubby and Neo have talked with the devs for more detail on this. There will be matchmaking with new MMR, just no ranking system at start. The devs told them that they will be keeping track of this MMR and using it when ranked ladder launches. 4s and FFA are also supposedly going to be launched during beta shortly after Night Elf is added.

I am still cautious and a bit pessimistic about the whole situation but today Undead is supposed to launch along with a lot of optimizations and bug fixes for the client so lets see how that goes. Blizzard is running really dry of faith from me but this could rekindle some hope.

I know taste is somewhat subjective but I don't see how WC3:R is shitty "aesthetically". There are a few models I'm not a fan of and some issues/buggy animations but on the whole it looks fantastic imo.

The Undead launch in beta went through today and I have to say this new patch is much better. A lot of the bugs are gone for me, game is much smoother and there have definitely been some aesthetic touchups, feels much easier to distinguish units now. Game runs very nice for me now and I was able to play a few with no lag at all on my end. Undead also looks and feels great.

Grubby has a 6700k cpu in his pc and it runs ~45fps at wc3 reforged (see video above)?!

I watched his stream yesterday before UD arrived. Someone in chat asked about coop-commander in wc3 like sc2. That would be amazing.

edit: Looks like an UD Problem. UD keeps fps low, ~40fps lower than if you Play orc/human. I think the blight Ground is the reason. low fps only at UD base.

So far it looks so cartoonish, unpolished graphically while not being optimized properly. Or is it just me looking this way?

When you zoom in on each individual model they look really good, when you look at the whole picture, it does look unpolished. Like having units set to Ultra detail while having terrain, trees and every other part of the decor on lowest...

But then again allegedly they rushed this beta out, because of the number of preorders placed.

Cancelled my Reforged pre-order. Its a complete mess. I don't see any reason to keep my pre-order. No ladder at release, models are basically universally worse, buggy as fuck. I see no reason to play Reforged over netease.

Very interested to see the thought process behind the blizzard team with some of the directions they took.

It’s really unlike Blizzard to go into beta this unpolished in a technical sense, can be a double-edged sword doing so as yes it might sate the appetite of some, equally kill the enthusiasm of others by making an alpha playable

It's like the entire project was done without Blizzard's art director knowing about it. The style is bad, the execution is bad and the optimization is bad. Did this start as an intern project or something? Bizarre.

I've made a comparison of graphics between tft and reforge, behind buggy models and poor animation so far you may see lack of this special feeling of warcraft, reforge is not a bright game with lost of pleasent green-ish textures across maps. In reforge it's harder to follow certain units during big fights. Even overlay is way worse :D Well, so far.

I hope they will make a specific button in options that switches to old graphics and back.

Yes but my understanding is that outsourcing some model work is fairly standard and they've done it before. I can't imagine they also outsourced design PHILOSOPHY, which I feel is the biggest issue. Reforged graphics look nothing like anything remotely Warcraft. Proportions, everything, its all basically total shit.

The models can be fixed. More specifically, the textures & lighting. Here's some really quick photoshopping to illustrate how minor changes can drastically change the look. I encourage Lemon Sky Studios and Blizzard Entertainment to take these ideas.

Reforged original: colors/lighting look muted.

Brightened ("dodged") the light areas on face and tongue.

Desaturated and brightened the teeth to make him look more toothy like original WC3 model. Stretched out ("liquified") mouth sideways to add a bit of a grin. Bright yellow "hard light" layer added on eyes.
