This "Rae Days" stuff is also way off. History indicates Rae did a nice job piloting the province through a very tough recession a long long long time ago. Ford needs to stop talking about "Rae Days".
It appears the Kathleen Wynne Reign of Error is finally over...

true, whoever i think is the smartest, most capable leader has big impact on my vote and its a big reason why i couldn't vote for Trudeau last election.
Im so conflicted, I dont mind the PC's but Rob Ford isnt working for me at all.
I feel the the NDP, tends to soften its batshit leftism when they are in power but putting them in control of Ontario might be to much. Honestly nutjob liberals scare me more than bad conservatives, with bad conservatives I know what to expect.
Horwath is passing at the moment primarily due to the badness of her competition.
Horwath is forcefully promising government handouts. Because she is the NDP leader people believe her promises.
Ford refuses to say "we are cutting government and cutting taxes". He dances around the issue. His message is uninspiring and muted. Mike Harris did it right. However, Harris was a savvy veteran of large-scale politics. He knows how to deliver such a message.
if you're going to be a right-wing guy promising the traditional right wing agenda it has to be delivered in the manner in which Harris and Trump delivered it.
I'm calling it now: the NDP is winning the Ontario election with a big majority.
i could procedurally generate Doug Ford's cookie cutter right wing speeches out of audio clips from Joe Clark and Bill Davis. the guy puts me to sleep.

It's amusing witnessing what should have been a slam dunk for Ford and the OPC tumble into a disastrous clown show of ineptitude and corruption. I don't know if it is a guarantee for Horwath and the ONDP yet, but she's definitely emerging out of this as the least worse candidate, and that's enough for on-the-fence Liberal voters who want Wynne out and don't want Ford.
I was under the impression that the PC's would form a majority Govt. even with Doug Ford.
The voter doesnt like paying bills they shouldnt have to. Even if NDP moderates a bit after getting in charge there is no way the majority of voters (including minorities who have more in common with PC values anyway, even more so than old white voters) would vote for them. Just tell them their hydro bill will be cut in half and cut their tax bill, doesnt even matter if you dont tell them how, they will vote for you.
If you dont deliver they will kick you out, or you can kick the can long enough to make it someone elses problem+ Show Spoiler +
(a common conservative tactic in the US historically)
easy.
Aside from some parts of the 6 the PC's had it locked down imo. That having been said I do believe they will outperform even what I thought they would. Its not like I think they will do a good job, but when the incumbents flub core issues people care about so hard the pendulum will swing.
Hurricane Hazel endorsed Doug Ford when the PCs were at their worst popularity level during the campaign... i thought he was dead... and he ended up winning. just wow.
i think any plans god has for 905ers has to get cleared by Hazel Mccallion first.
I can admit to being wrong and overreacting, and I will here. I forgot just how little the average person concerns themselves with Doug Ford's character or the somewhat lacking PC platform, and the polls from a few weeks ago even after some unsavoury revelations still showed a solid majority for them. People wanted to vote in the loudest anti-Wynne party, and the NDP's platform didn't appeal enough to the majority. We'll see how well they perform, but honestly, I expect another Rob Ford show, and not in the good way.
Doug Ford ran a boring, cookie-cutter campaign. By contrast, the last successful PC campaign authored by Mike Harris that knocked off an incumbent was brilliant.
i should give Doug Ford some credit for his ability to read the people. I complained on here about Ford discussing "Rae Days". It was a bad move. To Doug Ford's credit he quickly figured out that "Rae Days" are a non-issue and if anything considered a good move by Bob Rae many yeas ago. Ford stopped discussing "Rae Days" 1 or 2 days after i complained about it on here. That was a smart move and demonstrated Ford's ability to read the voters.
The Liberals no longer hold official party status in Ontario because they won less than 8 seats. Sometimes the Premier will do the 7 seat party a favour and grant them official party status because they came close. Welp, Mcguinty refused to do it for the NDP in 2003. It'll be interesting to see if Ford does the Liberals a favour and bends the rules as a show of mercy.
I hold Steve Paikin in very high regard as a researcher and journalist. However, he was so biased in favour of Wynne in this campaign it was sickening. For me, Paikin went from a 9/10 to an 8/10 due to his clear bias during this election campaign.
This was Steve Paikin during the election campaign...
Instead of 4/20, maybe Canada's day for the devil's lettuce can now be 10/17. Each province is creating their own laws, so might be worth reading how your province is reacting to this. Say what you want about Trudeau, but at least he did get one major promise done.
The last time the Canadian economy improved this much was in 2009. This occurred right after the Canadian dollar took a 15 cent nose dive and exports to the USA went way up. Thus, the 2009 growth was a 1-time thing.
what i'd like to know is... does this guy have a criminal record? was there a warrant for his arrest due to him committing an act of violence?
if the answer to these 2 questions is "no" then this incident is very bad. the guy is stumbling around and has 2 cops all over him. at this point the cops know he has no weapon.
on the positive side: nice Toronto Maple Leaf hat. This "live commentary" is over the top. Is this guy auditioning to replace Jerry The King Lawler on Monday Night RAW?

The guy is dead. Even if the answer to those 2 questions is YES. Given that there is clearly no threat to the life of the police officers. Tasering him to death seems excessive.
In other new's
Th CBSA announced the Surtax implementation at 2 o clock last week shortly after the Minister.
Obviously they didnt want to do it but now my long weekend is fucked. I am spending the weekend preparing custom apps to update 10000123121 items across roughly 25 percent of Canadas imports and everyone is now going to ask me what they are supposed to do. Some of them are foxpro incidentally. Fox pro is hot garbage. Anything that queries slower than SQL should be confined to the depths of hell and beyond.
Very few importers that do self brokerage actually even know how to process import compliance with countervailing. its really easy but if people were smart enough to figure these sorts of things out I wouldnt have a job. And the problem is in alot of compliance situations its not simply just a surtax, the addition of the tax cascades into causing so many other compliance processes that get issued.
Providing importers and other compliance solution vendors in the industry a 3 hour final notice prior to effect has to be the most monumentally disrespectful way to deal with this.
"So some poor schmuks at XTZ company got his long weekend ruined.. big woo.." is probably what they were probably thinking and ok thats fine.
But not giving businesses enough time with the enough info to figure out alternative sourcing, logistics, operations etc. Thats just lazy. Fuck you liberals. I get you had to do it, but dont be bitches and dawdle on implementing your decisions next time.
