i'm not sure if the video covers the entire interaction with the police. I'm speculating that the cops probably did something wrong; more than that video is needed to say for sure.
I think the Toronto Police are going to acknowledge that Bruce Macarthur was killing guys way before 2010. I generally do not venture into the gay village. However, just west of the gay village there are "missing" posters of middle aged men cropping up every where. Until two years ago I almost never saw a "missing" poster of a middle aged man. There were more missing posters for cats and a few of women. I've never seen this many "missing" posters in the past; people are paranoid.. and with the police screwing this investigation up who can blame them.
Safety is an illusion. The only reliable safety mechanism is self defense. Don't rely on the state sponsored security force for anything.

My first place here was smack bang at corner of Church and Wellesley and to be fair that's been a thing since I moved to Canada. So i didnt imagine it to be any different.
The thing is, most of the security we take for granted here is way above par to what I have been used to around the US and the third world.
That having been said, this evening I was at a bar + Show Spoiler +(I rarely go out anymore but it happened to be a special occasion) and and we heard what we though were juvenile fireworks.
I got an app warning that it turned out to be this.
This worries me alot for so many reasons.. You can have all the self defense in the world it isnt going to change much. I would rather ensure the state sponsors the security and enforces it. I dont intent see how being the guy getting popped just so some other guy with a weapon has the opportunity to save someone else. I'd rather the conditions remain where I dont get popped in the first place.

Right.. America fuck yeah! With a proven sexual harasser, cheater and all round gutter trash to women. in charge.
But a PM who may or may not have made a mistake 20 years go (probably did). Canada not as good as USA.. police are useless.. which I dont even know how they connect.
Also if the woman can be bought off well...

She has come forward: + Show Spoiler + And I don't think it's the public or the media's right to victimize someone because they want her to be a victim.

yep, she came forward to say she won't say anything... ever. which the liberals knew with 100% certainty just before Trudueau's memory "improved"

new topic. looks like that TAVIS police officer guy's letter to the mayor worked... it was a nasty tactic.. but it worked. lots of big time OT cash for lots of cops.. the police union must be proud. https://www.thestar.com/news/city_hall/2018/07/12/toronto-police-plan-to-deploy-200-more-officers-to-priority-areas-in-evening-hours-to-combat-gun-violence.html
new topic its nice to see Trudeau planning to increase military spending by 70% over the next 10 years. We can thank Donald Trump for that one.

Exactly which is why its so baffling that you posted that vignette after bagging on Trudeau...

The Saudi issue only hurts some education sectors. Its not much of a trading partner.
On a more personal note, I like most who have grown up in South Asia and managed to get an education that isnt rooted in Wahabism... know Saudi's quite intimately. Most of the elites and pretty much 90 percent of their males are gutter humans.
The only difference between them and rednecks is that they have oil (cept Dubai, no oil there), dislike alcohol (officially) and that instead of them enjoying their women having their tits out they prefer to hide them in portable tents and instead of just outright raping minority and immigrant women they officialize it so they can do it legally.
In any universe without the dependancy on Oil the Saudi's would be a North Korea. I am proud regardless of the economic consequences that Canada isnt being bulllied by those shit stains.
In neither situation did Canada escalate anything. If the Saudi's are such muffins that they cant handle valid criticism that doesnt say much of them now does it. But you didnt need me to tell you that.
Moving to the US unless its some shithole (and even most shitholes) will nearly always be a bigger career move because its a bigger market. But if thats all that matters to you. Enjoy I guess.

MP Maxime Bernier quits Conservatives, plans to start new partyQuebec MP Maxime Bernier is leaving the Conservatives and says he plans to start his own party. Bernier, who represents the riding of Beauce, made the announcement Thursday morning in Ottawa as the party's policy convention kicks off in Halifax. "I have come to realize over the past year that this party is too intellectually and morally corrupt to be reformed," he said, on the heels of controversial tweets he posted regarding diversity. "I know for a fact that many in the caucus privately oppose supply management, but buying votes in a few key ridings is more important than defending the interests of Canadians." ... Ontario Premier Doug Ford tweeted support for the leader, while Kory Teneycke, the former director of communications for Stephen Harper and a Bernier supporter in the leadership race, penned an opinion article for the Toronto Sun backing Scheer for prime minister. Earlier this summer, Bernier was banished from the Tory front bench and stripped of his innovation critic title. At the time, a Conservative MP who spoke to CBC News on the condition he not be identified said Bernier was removed because of his decision to post a chapter from his book on his website. The MP wrote that Scheer's victory as party leader was owed to "fake Conservatives" who only joined the party to defend supply management in the dairy industry. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/bernier-statement-conserative-1.4795894 The schism of the CPC begins. Wonder how much this will split the Conservative vote, and how it may play into Trudeau's chances at reelection.

I hope it's just him. I thought he had some interesting ideas during the leadership race, but since then he's been more of a liability than an asset for the party. I'm hoping this just conveniently removes an inconvenient rival to Scheer and we can just move on. Really hope we don't split the right again. I don't want Trudeau back.

Im ambivalent to Trudeau but the alternatives are awful..
Although the conservatives are honestly better off without an asshat like Bernier..

I remember as a kid hearing the old joke about about voting intentions in a federal election: "None of the above, please."
What progress we've made...
I would love a way for voters to punish Trudeau for a wishy-washy and unproductive majority term in power... without electing the CPC or NDP. Maybe a minority government would be better.

I hope the right splits, if for nothing else, it will grow support for proportional representation. our democracy is an unrepresentative joke as is.

honestly hes pretty much at the level I expected of him. Although as liberal as I am some of the pandering is not defendable.
Personally I dont mind if the leader is not super smart, intellectually impressive or a genius necessarily. None are pre requisites to being a good leader. Elder Trudeau from what I have seen and read of him is an exception not a rule.
Sure they would be nice qualities to have but as long as you are smart enough or able to make decisions that let you put the right people in the right place to get things done as well as possible. Thats a good enough job. And to that end hes done a good enough job.
Its also not fair to be critical of someone just because they come from wealth or a dynasty. That alone is not enough. It would be if thats the ONLY thing he had going for him, but that would be an unfair assessment to make aswell.

I'm not critical because he came from wealth or a dynasty, I am critical of him for not having the life/work experience necessary to understand things you can't simply learn from school. I'm not old enough to remember his father, but from what I've read with everything good he did there is something equally awful. I think he is remembered more romantically than accurately.
So basically nearly every major world leader.. your basically just saying the same thing. Just with different words. If he doesnt understand those things its precisely because he came from wealth otherwise he would have experienced said things. Regardless its not an argument I can sympathize with.
Not everyone can or needs to understand everything. The goal should be to get as many people in positions who can understand it to do something about it. And thats frankly an impossible task but one you have to try regardless.
You can fault politicians for failing. and analyse what they do wrong, or just not doing something period. But you cant fault them for not being able to relate to whatever it is you think is some empathetic pre requisite to leadership.
