Random feels a lot stronger than it used to for the simple reason of race pickers. Now that each player is faced with each matchup it will still be I guess a short time until every player faces every matchup perfection.
Facing random is as annoying as ever, but the major problem seems to be the queue time. Does anyone else feel that the queue time is too wide a margin? It is pretty frustrating at this point to get up and throw away some trash only to find the game having begun and myself asking which race against?
It seems the race should be listed in the alliances. Could the queues ever be faster? I don't understand why the ladder is server-centric if in fact the ladder is global.
I would imagine that the algorithm for finding games works better when there is a wealth of players to pull from. If the number of players goes down, then it's going to be more difficult to find games. So yes, the queue time could be faster.
Did you play the original BW? As you recall most players had an off-race matchup they favored. IdrA, for instance, used to play ZvP instead of TvP because he disliked the balance.

Seems like most foreigners are still playing SC2. I'm not surprised I guess given the difficulty level of the BW ladder. I used to be probably top 8 in the USA (if I'd had time to attend tournaments). I guess probably not more than 15 USA players were better than me throughout the history of BW.
Then again it's still pretty difficult at the moment. Seems like the lost souls of 50,000 Koreans are placed on the USWest ladder and some random players from places that don't make sense like Georgia Southern.

You can't be serious, right? Self pro-claimed top 8 USA (if you had time to play ni tournaments, of course.) Not more than 15 players in the USA were better than you throughout the history of BW, probably? ...

Idra played Terran for every match-up. I can only think of Ret, who played TvZ instead of ZvZ for awhile.

Hmm... Train hard, I'd like to see your skills
Not everything is a personal attack on you.
Yea, I didn't say it was, if the guy makes all of these claims, I think there are a lot of people who would like to see his skills, i'm not saying I want to play him, but if he is that good, others as well as myself would like to see his skills, obviously.
You don't need to read into everything I write as much it appears you are.

But ..wait..that would mean you're... C+/B- rank roughly? Wow.

Yeah, although on the other hand I'm pushing 34. So we'll see if it looks like it used to. I had a few 270 APM games which is a little below my competitive career but presumably should be good enough for an old guy. I can list the players I thought were above my level: I'd start with Whear, Froz, Yosh and arguably Rekrul depending on which Rekrul we're talking about. IdrA and NonY post-Korea obviously because of their super saiyan statuses. I'd definitely take Tasteless, Artosis, Inc, IdrA off the list and probably also remove G5, LzGameR, Machine. I'd say I was about the same level as Day and a little worse than lastgosu. NonY post-Korea was obviously also pretty good, and I personally lost a few games to IdrA at that point although I was pretty wasted and I imagine he was at the top of his game. I was never really impressed with him as a player or person because he was too much of a klutz and could probably be forced to give up an entire series against a smart C player.
JF, Testie, FirA, Elky, Giyom, Jammerz, are also great players but not USA. Can't think of anyone else old school at the moment. To add any more players I think you're headed for UK+Euro Midian Mondragon Androide etc. SyZ was also a difficult guy and Fenix. I'd also add Fayth and a few others from Myth but certainly not Hevad. I think all those players were well below my level but they performed well and cashed a lot.
To be honest my most difficult opponents of all time were Jamie (Midian) from ToT with Naugrim; Yosh or Sherwin from Berkeley (the guy who taught the SC class at UC Berkeley) and Strelok who we all recall. Strelok was a hell of a lot better than almost every American Terran other than Yosh.
I'd swear I'm forgetting a USA Terran from New York but I can't say who it was--was a young guy who had some real talent. I liked MorroW a lot for South America Zergs but I don't know if this is the same fellow we're thinking of.
Also, IdrA pre-Korea tried playing ZvP quite frequently. He was terrible at TvP and had mental blocks about virtually every Protoss unit. He never did much ZvP either which is why you didn't hear about it, but TvT/TvZ/ZvP was his primary competitive split until around the time he transferred to eStro.

I think you're forgetting Maynard, Assem and Froz.
NTT & Froz are included. Assem was never that great. I remember beating him while he was still on Hexatron, I guess it was 2005 or 2006. Froz was obviously pretty good. NTT and maynard are arguably the same person as the player who casts SC2. but there might also be handle trading or else it's a goof.
Assem a pretty good Terran back then, at least for USA standards. I remember beating him while he was on Hexatron as well, but I also remember him beating me MANY more times than I beat him. I think Froz had more potential than any USA Terran, Idra included. Maybe more potential than any USA player period.. He was a beast... Maynard and NTT are the same person? Wasn't Maynard from USA and NTT from the Netherlands?
