MYM is the official English partner of PGL, so it isnt surprising. Considering everyone outside of China is an invite, I don't see why they wouldn't support the site that is providing them coverage.

Draco wasn't part of MYM in Season 2. He was invited cuz he was "Famous"
Also they invited Testie, who was part of MYM

now that you mention it, it's certainly true. But on the other hand they don't really have an obligation to hold qualifiers for their events and could honeslty do whatever they please. =/
Maybe they thought it wasn't worth the effort etc after they tried it in S1? dunno. I mean we could say the same thing about blizzcon / wwi right?
edit: nm the previous posters clearly know more than me!

All those posts make a lot of sense. I think I could see you doing really good in an event like that NonY

I'm aware of the partnership between PGL and MYM. But I am looking at it from a player/spectator/fan perspective. Do people want to see such partnerships or do they want everything to be equal-opportunity? At least from the China/TSL outrage, I would assume everyone is greatly in favor of equal-opportunity.
Does it make it easier for you to accept the lack of equal-opportunity events when you know there is a good reason behind it? Though I myself don't feel like PGL/MYM have a really good reason. It's really kind of sinister and I think it'd be negative publicity for MYM if everyone realized it.
But on that business sidenote, wouldn't it be even more beneficial to MYM to be the host of their own qualifier tournament with exclusive coverage for it?

Oh and also, even if I don't have all my facts straight about only MYM players getting invites after season one, it's still true that they got free invites in season three. So we still have something to discuss Oh yeah and even if non-MYM players got invites after season one, would you really prefer to have all the spots taken up by invites of people who did well a year ago or would you like there to always be an opportunity for new blood to enter?

at least mym chose good people for their free slots this time. when they sent over inactive blackman i just about cut my wrists.

but tbh if they would host qualifiers for it then they would get 10x the hits they get from just sending their own players. when you get the community involved by playing something huge hosted at ur site then they are more likely to watch your coverage of it as it progresses.

Based on the information from this thread, I agree with you totally.
However, it's their league and they're free to do as they wish. Life isn't fair.
Regarding MYM doing their own qualifier tournament, they might consider doing that, but then it will only hurt their own chances of making it to the PGL, and furthermore some initial hassles to set-up such an event (i.e. TSL). Then you get into an argument about outsourcing work etc.
In reality, your equal-opportunity creates a double standard of qualifying system. One for foreigners one for domestic, which doesn't make much sense either.
Bottom line is I see it as a Chinese tournament, and the invites are more like a show of good faith (and PR) to mutual acquaintances. I'm not 100% sure if the following statement is correct but; I am under the impression you could go to China and qualify if you really wanted to.
In reality the only just system would be for everyone to go through the Chinese qualifiers.
Basically the way I see it, a free seed allows you to skip the entire qualification process, but obviously you have to be good too. And if you really wanted to win anyway, you could qualify yourself too.
+ Show Spoiler +*I'm assuming everyone is entitled to participate in qualifiers. I apologize if any of my assumptions are incorrect, I believed them to be reasonable at the time.

hell didnt FENIX get a spot in some chinese tournament because of mym connections? now that is something to be outraged about.

Draco was invited this time also but refused to go... I guess him and Fenix were the only NON MYM players to attend these things.
It is a bit unfair but I guess there's nothing really you can do... although the players they chose were all highly qualified

Fraer and Idra were supposed to go after qualifying in Season 1 but didn't. Testie was chosen as a replacement as well as a Chinese player who nearly qualified.
It does make sense why they would choose MYM players considering MYM is the biggest name outside of Korea in eSports.

nony please get the facts right. Sen was in ToT when he played in the first PGL and only for MYM in the second season, so far the only players who played for MYM in PGL were Testie, F91(qualified by offline qualifers-not invited), Dreiven and White-Ra. You've got the facts completely wrongly. I'm sure they invite players who are at their prime at the time like how Dreiven and White-ra are dominant at the moment and how Testie was at his prime during that time. I can assure you MYM players do not get auto-invite but I wouldn't deny that being in MYM helps in getting invited because they get more popularity when they join MYM. Please do note that PGL have tried to invite Draco and also Mondragon if im not mistaken but they rejected.
