Roles and Setup information
This is an Semi-Closed setup. This post contains a list of possible roles. How many (if any) of each of these roles exist is not known.
This is a Normal game. There will be no alignment changing mechanics. Role and Alignment will be revealed on all flips. Mafia has 2 factional KP that have to be delivered by individuals, and are subject to roleblocking and visiting/tracking rules. A Mafia player can deliver a KP and perform a night action in the same night. If there is only one Mafia player left alive, then only one KP can be delivered.
Notifications: Notifications are minimal for things like roleblock etc. Investigative roles know if they are roleblocked, and 1-shot and 2-shot roles of any kind know if they are roleblocked. Otherwise roleblocks are not notified. Saves are not notified to anyone, but surviving due to having an extra night life (like being a Veteran) are notified.
Multiple Actions: A player who has multiple actions can take as many as they'd like in a night. The only restriction is that you can only deliver 1 kp per night. So if you're a Vigilante and a Gunsmith gives you a gun, you can fire the gunsmith gun, or your gun, but not both in one night. If you're a Jailkeeper and a Gunsmith gives you a gun, you can Jailkeep one person and shoot a person in the same night. If you're a VT and two Gunsmiths give you guns, you can fire the guns one at a time, but not both in the same night. If you're mafia and a Gunsmith gives you a gun, you can fire the gunsmith gun, or your factional KP, but not both in the same night.
There are many possible roles, and what roles are in the game are drawn from this pool. There can be more than one of any of the roles. Not every role is guaranteed to be in the game.
DMLE Precinct 16
Win Condition: The town wins when there are no mafia left in the game or nothing can prevent that from happening.
1-Shot, 2-Shot, Multishot: Potions Master, Investigator Extraordinaire, Lead Auror, Auror, Private Detective, Alastor Moody, and DUMBLEDORE are available in the following configurations: 1-Shot, 2-Shot, and Multishot. 1-Shot means you can only use your power once. 2-Shot means it can only be used twice. Multishot means it can be used as many times as you want. If you are 1- or 2-Shot, and you are Roleblocked, your shot is refunded. Role PMs will be prefixed with 1-Shot or 2-Shot if you are 1-Shot or 2-Shot, and will have no prefix if you are multishot. Sample PMs of all kinds are provided below to reflect this.
DMLE Investigator (Vanilla Townie): You’ve been working in Precinct 16 for a long time. You’ve seen a lot of messed up things in your day. When the going gets tough, you don’t stop. Every case takes a little bit out of you, but someone has to do this work. You are a VT.
Ministry Obliviator (Wandering Townie): You're really just lost. You were sure you came here to do… something. To Memory Charm someone, maybe? No, that can’t be right. Damn, why can’t you remember? Might as well go home. You are a self-aware wanderer. Each night you visit someone at random, and are not informed who you visited.
Taking Bribes (Miller): Jenny’s in school now. Columbia University, the best education around, if you’re a squib like she is. It’s so expensive, though, and the exchange rate between Dollars and Galleons is highway robbery. When Johnson offers you cash to make sure a particular report gets misplaced, how could you refuse? Self-aware miller. Return Red to checks.
Twin (Mason): In ancient days, when twins were born, one would be killed. The magic of twins is strange and confusing, but you find you can communicate with yours at any time, just by thinking. You are a mason, with a confirmed town partner and a QT you can speak in.
Potions Master (Gunsmith): You can make all kinds of potions, from vertaserum to calming draughts. In this line of work, it’s needed. Things are coming to a head, and luckily your new explosive potions are ready for a test run. At night, you can gunsmith a gun for someone. They will recieve a gun with a single bullet. They can fire it during the next night. If you are roleblocked, you can retry. If your target dies, tough luck. If the guy who gets the gun is roleblocked when he tries to shoot, his bullet is refunded.
Investigator Extraordinaire (Vigilante): You keep on thinking back to your idol, Rita Skeeter. You want to be just like her. You’re not gonna let things like an “ongoing investigation” or “hostage situation” stop you from writing your character assassination pieces. You’re a journalist; you and your quick-quotes quill doesn’t afraid of anyone. At night, you can fire a bullet to deal 1 kp to a target. You can't shoot during night 1.
Lead Auror, Special Victims Unit (Jailkeeper): You worked for a time with Auror Stabler, before he retired. He taught you everything you know, and you put that knowledge to good use. Sometimes, you bring people in because you think they’re guilty. Sometimes, you bring them in because they need a place away from home, if only for a brief time. Damn. You hate this job so much. Each night, you can jail a person, which roleblocks them and protects from one KP. Happens after Mafia RB.
Auror, Special Victims Unit (Banisher): You worked for a time with Auror Benson, before she retired. She taught you everything you know, and you put that knowledge to good use. Sometimes, you bring people in because you think they’re guilty. Sometimes, you bring them in because they need a place away from home, if only for a brief time. Damn. You hate this job so much. Each night, you can Banish a person, which roleblocks them and prevents anyone from visiting, targeting, or killing them until morning. In the day post, it will announce that they were banished overnight. Happens after Mafia RB.
Lieutenant (Veteran): You’ve been around the block enough times to know that a case like this is never good news. You’ll do what you can to help your officers, of course. Just thinking about this makes you want to get out of the business. Damn, you're getting too old for this. You pour yourself a couple fingers of firewhisky and call it a night. You have an extra night life. If you are RBed, that night life is suppressed during the RB.
Private Detective (Tracker): You’ve seen blood mix with rain on the dark streets of Magical Manhattan, and you've never come out clean. Most of the time, your clients mostly want boring things— follow the husband, see if he’s cheating. Look up, or locate, an old flame who moved away. Find out what’s REALLY going on with Bernie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans. This one, though, seems different. She’s crying, and you’d put your hand on her shoulder, but your well-honed senses tell you that it wouldn’t go over well with her. She doesn’t have much money, she says. She knows she was Memory Charmed, but not who did it. She shudders. Something happened to her, something bad. You’ll get to the bottom of this. Each night, you may select a target. You follow that target and see who they visit that night.
Alastor Moody (Paranoid Gun Owner): Mad-Eye Moody had once worked out how long it had taken him, in retrospect, to achieve what he now considered a decent level of caution - weighed up how much experience it had taken him to get good instead of lucky - and had begun to suspect that most people died before they got there. Moody had once expressed this thought to Lyall, who had done some ciphering and figuring, and told him that a typical Dark Wizard hunter would die, on average, eight and a half times along the way to becoming 'paranoid'. This explained a great deal, assuming Lyall wasn't lying... At night, the first person who visits you during the night is hit with 1 kp. This effect resolves after roleblocks.
DUMBLEDORE (Cop): Wait, what? What’s Dumbledore doing in America? Isn’t he dead or something? Each night, you may target a player and learn their alignment.
Obstructors of Justice
Mafia Win Condition: The mafia wins when there are no remaining townies or nothing can prevent that from happening. Each night, mafia has 2 kp. Each KP must be delivered, and each deliverer can only deliver 1 kp. So when there's only one mafia left alive, there will only be 1 kp delivered each night.
Missing Evidence (Mafia Goon): Maybe you’re hidden, or maybe you’re just hard to find. One way or another, though, the prosecution can’t move forwards until you’re found. Magical Manhattan is a lot like Hogwarts’ Room of Requirement. Anything can get lost or be hidden there… You are a goon with no powers. You may deliver KP.
False Lead (Mafia Roleblocker): False leads happen all the time. Most of the time, they’re not even anyone’s fault. They sure do eat up valuable peoples’ time, though. You are a roleblocker. Each night, you may target a player and roleblock them. You can also deliver KP while doing this. Your RB resolves before any town abilities do.
Unhelpful Witness (Mafia Godfather): Sometimes, for one reason or another, people won’t talk. It’s traumatizing, they’ve been Memory Charmed, they’re afraid for their lives, they feel trapped. All these things seem obvious in hindsight, but the situation on the ground is muddy. You are a gf with no powers. You return green to checks. You may deliver KP without visiting the target. If you are RBed, you return red to checks that night.
Political Pressure (Mafia Framer): Damn it, how did this end up in the papers already? Now people are calling in all kinds of leads, there’s a scandal, and the DA’s office is putting pressure on you. Your main lead is even claiming Imperius. How can you gather evidence in a shitstorm like this? You are a framer. each night, you may target a player and choose what color they return to checks. You may deliver KP while doing this. Your ability resolves after town's RB abilities, but before Cop checks.
Leaky Precinct (Mafia Rolecop): As if things aren’t bad enough, someone in the department is talking to the press. You don’t have time for this. You’re up against a criminal who uses memory charms, confundus, and imperius. You're having enough trouble keeping track of investigation info as-is! You are a Rolecop. Each night, you may target a player and see what their role is. You may deliver KP while doing this.
