So my new coach is quitting after the nationals, after hardly a year on the team. Same fucking mess again, slightly different cover. I wonder why I bother with this sport. Shit.
UPDATE:
I was just offered a coaching position in the club. Not the elite team, mind you, but the "B-team", I guess, which is the development team of swimmers swimming or aiming for the youth nationals. The club board has been in touch with me about advising on the recruitment of a new coach, and they want me to sit in on the interviews with each candidate. I'm glad they got around to realizing their faults, even though it's too late to retain the current coach or the last, and I hope they'll listen to us (I will relay the thoughts of the rest of the team to the board for sure).
As for the coaching job, I don't know. Maybe? It's very out of the blue.

Sucks. At that point, why don't you consider switching clubs ? Maybe try to find another club with more stability ?

Ugh. Would switching clubs help (is that even possible)?

You bother with the sport because you love it, otherwise, you would've ditched it after the first mess. Just keep swimming!

Hes quitting after the nationals because your coach realizes it is time for you to take the torch and start coaching others, it is your time to take over the throne as the dolphin man. Now paddle your way to victory and make Mr.Miyagi proud!!

Look on the bright side you can write a book after your career about leadership turnover and the perspective of the players that lack a long term manager-head coach.
Leadership turnover is a huge problem that there isn't much reading out there about what to do about it as the team members. I try to help keep some continuity with my FIRST team but its hard to balance out giving the leader enough space to come into their own and keeping a level of procedure that the team can count on.

I've been here for so long that they're my family more so than my friends at this point. I'm worried about the board screwing the competitive section (the swimmers) over if there isn't a strong and experienced voice to keep them on track - they're not swimmers (they're idiots) and often make bad decisions in transition periods. I've filled that function, the bridge between swimmers and the people that have the money, for more than three years. I don't have the gut to be selfish in this situation, at least not enough.

I've considered it many times, but the truth of the matter is that there are relatively few clubs in Sweden with the stability and resources required to keep an elite section running smoothly for years at a time. My last coach (the one before my current one) lasted some 2.5-3 years, which is about or slightly below the average in many places. If I were to move I would need to move to a city that offers the program I'm studying, has a team with high-level swimmers of matching skillsets (mid-distance/butterfly/IM), with a coach I can work with. There are so many factors, even discounting how close I am to the people swim with here.
