Dongmin played so well in the game, they should have doubted the poker guy's double sword. :/
I feel that three games in only one chapter is a bit too much. It looks like they cut a lot of the main game, even though it actually didn't last as long as the previous ones
Teacher guy was pretty bad, though, and it was mostly his mistake that lost his team the game... why did they even bring him back in the first place?
I think they actually drew the main match out a lot, there were only like 6 moves total and they somehow made it last half an hour... it was probably good for the editors that the Black Mission happened, otherwise this episode would have been miserable.
Front page has a poll on who do/did you think would win after ep 1 of the genius season 3.
My thoughts after ep 1 of the genius.
Lawyer: I watched the Crime Scene, a show that is currently on break, but used to air, and Kang Yongsuk became a regular on that show. Tbh, Kang Yongsuk was pretty embarassing on that show, so I never saw him winning, but I thought he would make it far, because TV personalities always make it far. He showed promise after episode 2, which shocked me, because he seemed like a tryhard, who was not that smart guy(hey this guy graduated from harvard). After ep 2, it seemed that my initial predictions would easily come true, and this guy would exceed expectations, but it seems like his weakness towards forging alliances eventually cost him in a bs mainmatch.
Actor: I originally predicted him to drop towards the early/middle stages of the game as deathmatch fodder. This guy does like nothing during the main matches, but he surprised me during the death match, by beating Nam Hweejong. (I'm pretty sure if we were having bets, like 90% of people would have bet on Nam Hweejong.) However, the actor is still a weak contestant. I still don't see the actor winning, and making it towards the later stages of the game. I seem him dropping out like in the middle part of the show.
Actress: I think I put too much faith in this girl. Realistically, she only had two options. Be a fodder for the deathmatch, or go along for the ride until later in the game, because she's not a threat. This girl's death match fodder. She's dropping out soon.
Comedian: This comedian has an image for being dumb, and for getting angry/cussing a lot. I originally had him drop off in the later stages of the game because he's a tv personality, and these guys never get out early in the game, and seems like this will be true. However, he exceeded my expectations, despite being the person in the game with the least amazing specs. Who says high iq means you're "smarter". He won't win(imo) but he'll make it to the later stages of the game before dropping out.
Math Lecturer: I think he originally latched on to the comedian because of the stigma behind tv alliances. I was disappointed to see them get wrecked season 1. I originally had high expectations for the lecturer. Before watching the first ep, I expected him to win. But there's only so much you can judge a person on, when you have no information on them besides pics and their profile. During ep 1, his "alliance" seemed like it would fail with Juri leavingo, but I felt that he would get far because no1 would want to kick him out. I never expected him to drop out so early in the game. Failed prediction here.
Shin Ahyoung: Just from specs, I saw her as one of the two strong female contestants on the show that might have a chance of winning the show. Ep 1 rolls around, and even before she got betrayed, her tendency to lean on the graduate student made me think twice. After the betrayal, I expected her to be the first contestant to drop out, but she surprisingly survived. I don't expect her to win, and I have this feeling that she'll survive for a long time in the game, but I'm going to say that she's dropping out a little bit later.
Lee Jongbum: No expectations for this guy. Thought he would drop out early like around this time or really soon. I'm hoping soon, so that my predictions are correct.
Yoo Sujin: Forged by tough real life experiences, I expected her to make it to the later stages of the game. Seems like this prediction will come true. My original predictions were that she would make it towards the end, before losing. In light of recent circumstances, I think she's like the lawyer. I get a vibe that they're just playing the game like a distraction or something. Like they don't really caring about winning the whole thing. I don't have a good feeling about this, but I'm still going to predict that she'll make it far, and be the last girl standing. (This probably won't happen)
Kwon Juri: I thought she would win ep 1 and die towards the middle of the season. Seems like I was wrong.
Kim Kyunghoon: After ep 1, I was surprised by the balls on this guy. He executed such a bold betrayal on ep 1, and took on the image of a scumbag. I honestly thought that after that, this guy would make at least top 4 on the show. I didn't expect him to drop oiut so early. However, he lost on ep 2. He made himself look like Boxer on that episode. Failed prediction here.
Poker player: I think poker players are good at these kinds of games. He got owned ep 2, and fked himself garnet wise ep 3, but he's one of the three people that I thought would win from the beginning. (Hyunmin, Hweejong, and Yoohyun)Like my heart says that he will win in the end, but my brain tells me he's going to make it till the end, but not win.
Oh Hyunmin: His specs made me feel like he would win. Ep 1 made me feel like he would win even more, for some strange reason. I think some people either see him winning or dropping out due to him being targeted by every1. My vote is on this guy winning the genius.
Choi Yeonseung: I expected this guy to make it near the end, purely based on his pic. Seeing how the game is progressing, that might be true. He might be a pushover in the social aspect of the game, but I think he's smart enough to be a legit contender in death matches. I see him making it to the later stages of the game at this point.
You have to be good at death matches to win on the Genius solely because you'll be in at least one(the final). If you're like Lee Sangmin, you might be good or lucky enough to knock out all the death match kings early on in the season, and then go up vs the scrubs near the end and win the whole thing, but this season, I don't think there's that many scrubs this season. So realistically, I feel that the two death match kings, hypothetically being Yoohyun and Hyunmin, will win the Genius.
Forgive me if most of what I said makes like 0 sense. Writing on the phone is a pain while in the car, so I might have written sentences that sound weird.
Ahh what a great episode this week! I have no idea what happened though b/c i couldn't focus on anything but Ahyoung. That tight black dress was too damn sexy, and then she's all bending over all the time with the camera shootin right down her cleavage. Omfg. and then she starts making screams and noises sounding like she's getting some behind closed doors. I donno if i can handle anymore from this woman.
Since episode 5 subs is out, I'm not going to use the spoiler tags.
I'm cheering for the oriental doctor. 2 death match victories now. Poor guy always out of the loop in the main game, and manned up this week to take out Dongmin's groupie. He's the least 2-faced person this season. Particularly in episode 3, when players are struggling with open alliance because it would make them look bad. He just took the blow and even tried to lighten the mood. I really hope he goes far.
What a blunder from the game creators to use different material for the bombs... While it's true that not many benefitted from it, if even two do it may be too much. I don't think it should be part of the genius. I believe such information should be availible to everyone.
Many of these games have a social aspect to them, where you can completely make a fool out of everyone else by simply teaming up with someone. I guess it's part of the game and that's also one way of playing genius, but its much different from making good calls, counting the best probability etc imo.

I'm pretty sure these differences are intentional. Only the more perceptive people are able to find them (e.g. Yellow with back of cards) which give them an advantage.
Well actually i think the yellow cards trick was unintentional and just yellow being awesome. The trick to that on was everybody else figured out in the different colored backs. It's more like from season 2 with that magnet dice thing that Sangmin figured out.

Personally, I don't think any girl will go to a deathmatch just yet, unless they end up coming last in the main game. I think the actor is really weak in the main match, and he just looks weak overall. He hasn't really done anything in any games so far. I think if any1 is picked for the deathmatch, they'll likely pick the weakest person in the game to survive, who imagewise, happens to be the actor. (Even though theoretically, I think JongBum is the weakest deathmatcher currently). I don't think they would stake everything on the line to aim at Yoohyun or Hyunmin just yet. And just by previews, it feels like Dongmin will win the deathmatch(Oh Boy, this means that he will lose the deathmatch. Cuz the genius always broadcasts the opposite of what happens). But just because I have fun making predictions that probably won't come true, I pick the actor.
I'm a total Dongmin convert now. Dammit! I mean I liked him before this, but he's just too charming for words, what with juggling all the 'flirting' with formulating strategies.

That is too funny. But, I will say that flirting did actually seem to distract from his strategies and it might ultimately be his downfall if he's not careful. Ahyoung isn't helping by adjusting her bra while he shouts charmingly at her.
Yea, though I was slightly surprised by how passive the rest of the contestants (except for Yoohyun) were while Dongmin and Hyunmin owned. Particularly near the end, it should have been fairly obvious that something was up after Hyunmin had the big round.
The deathmatch this time was quite fun though. Sometimes it can be a bit of a letdown but I enjoyed this one.
By not revealing every player's true money count until the end of the game, Dongmin & Hyunmin had such a lock on winning. Since they agreed to leave notes for each other beforehand, they didn't talk to each other at all in the early game and nobody would have evidence of them colluding against the rest.
I bet that next week they're going to find a quite different 2v5 situation. Hyunmin has destroyed in far too many episodes for the others to ignore him.

Edit: My thoughts.
This week: I pick Ahyoung because she's the last lame duck remaining. Only person she can beat at a deathmatch is Dongmin and unless Dongmin goes to deathmatch this week, I have a feeling he won't, then Ahyoung will be the candidate that will be picked for the deathmatch because she's the weakest.
Yeonseung is also very weak at main matches so it makes me feel like he might go the deathmatch, but if he does, I think he'll pick like Ahyoung or Yooyoung for the deathmatch and beat them. I don't see him losing this week.
Hyunmin no way he goes yet. Only way is if Yoohyun goes to deathmatch, picks Hyunmin because he wants to look cool and beats him.
Yoohyun is really crafty, but he sucks at being crafty, and doesn't want to look bad. He'll weasel his way out of another deathmatch this week imo.
Yooyoung: Ummmm 1 min of screen time per episode except for maybe face shots or reactions. Still not her time yet.
Dongmin: The day he goes to a deathmatch is the day he loses. I saw him on Running Man and they changed the shooting time just for him. I'm thinking that he's staying for a while longer because of that.
Jongbum: I expect him not to make an impact this week either. Second most likely to say bye bye.
