Sad ep. + Show Spoiler +I loved Ahyoung, i can't believe it!!!! She was like the most entertaining person in the whole show ... At least Yeonjoo and her overload of cuteness is still left. I dont understand how when they realized that Yoohyun was going for the loss, why didn't they then set up Ahyoung or Yeonjoo to win? b/c there were definitely enough rounds left to make one of them girls win and give the immunity to the other girl, then Yoohyun would have had to pick between the 2 ppl who can take him out 1v1 AND then whoever got chosen could do the black mission and force a Yoohyun vs. Yeonseung final (which is what Dongmin ultimately wanted anyways...it was still in his grasp to get but he got greedy thinking "we need to save these black garnets for later")
Dat acting by Yeonjoo in the middle of the MM though...was so good, but she laid it on a little too thick i think. Still i would have fallen for it so badly.
Also, next episode it looks like Yeonseung is gonna try to make big moves. I have a feeling it'll blow up in his face and he'll get eliminated next. It'll be an interesting game though b/c + Show Spoiler + it's gonna probably end up Yoohyun and Yeonseung vs. Hyunmin and Dongmin.....and both teams fighting over Yeonjoo. Hopefully she can survive, she's too adorable, i just wanna see more of her

+ Show Spoiler +Honestly its good that ahyoung dropped out. It's quite clear she wasn't anything like a genius in this deathmatch. I hope that yeonjoo drops out too. Maybe they weren't boring and brought flavor to the episodes but one problem is that can way too easily be convinced to your side and manipulated. They never have anything to give to the show that could be called 'genius' IMO. If they leave we can perhaps have some actually strong competitors battle it out, and who can at least weigh their own options well enough and want to win rather than survive. Still, yeonjoo could show another side of her.
Also, Dongmin is treading a dangerous path here. It's not guaranteed he'd win a deathmatch vs anyone anymore, and he's making everyone stand on their toes around him.

Yeah, the next episode is already out in Korea. So, please continue to mark spoilers, thank you!
I was upset that Jessica never got to go on with Boxer, but I'm really looking forward to the next episode if that was actually her!

Just finished watching episode 8
+ Show Spoiler +As much as I enjoy Ahyoung as eyecandy like the next man, I have to say that I am glad with the way this episode unfolded. It's a bit sad to see Ahyoung and Yeonjoo in the matches to be honest...I can't imagine Kyungran or Eunji from the first season handing over most of their garnets so meekly just to be "part of a team". The main match had a lot more potential but because they were so easily co-opted by Dongmin, it ended up being farcical.
It's doubly sad that Dongmin's "strategy" could have been so easily achieved. If he was serious about going to the deathmatch, he should have donated zero each round. I just can't see how Yoohyun and Yeonseung could beat them 2 v 4 to win the majority shareholder badge enough times.
Yoohyun chose the best strategy out of the paths left for him in this scenario and executed it well. To be honest, the show's editing is very bias (or maybe it is just me). Dongmin and Hyunmin effectively bullied the two girls into their team (good cop bad cop style), then completely abandoned them by giving no tokens of life or black garnets, yet come out relatively clean. Yoohyun, choosing the best strategy available, is portrayed as a psychological bully in the deathmatch when frankly Ahyoung was falling apart herself anyways. I think my Harvard friends would be very surprised that she had the ability to make it into the university on the basis of her performance on this show.
I hope Yeonjoo tries to play kingmaker between the two pairs in the next episode. She appears sharper than Ahyoung and hopefully can exploit her position by playing the two sides off. Also seems like Yeonseung is going to be more active next episode, which is great. His deathmatches earlier in the season seem to indicate that there is more to him than he has displayed so far on main matches.

+ Show Spoiler +This is according to my interpretation after watching it twice: Dongmin's strategy is based on the most important premise of Hyunmin coming first for the two tokens. The girls were fully aware of this before they agreed on the alliance and handed over the garnets for deposit. (The two girls could have gone to form their own team of two to fight the other two pairs, but they didn't. That would make for a more interesting prospect.) The money belongs to individual, not pooled. The purpose of having more people is to optimise their cash allocation so as not to clash with each other, not for money pooling. Dongmin needs Hyunmin to be guaranteed the top placing in order for his plan to succeed, provided the other side is not aware of his strategy (which Yeonjoo unfortunately leaked), because he wants them to split their money between investments and donations unlike Hyunmin who targets investments. The normal logic in this game is to avoid miser so that would make players put some money in donations which reduces their budget for major shareholder. However, if Dongmin starts collecting misers and make them realise his strategy too early, then they will stop putting money in donation and instead concentrate on investments to reduce Hyunmin's chance from getting as many major shareholders for a sure win. This became important after Yeonjoo leaked his plan to Yoohyun, so they had to assume that Yoohyun's team might start an early counter. If it ends up that Dongmin really got last and Hyunmin didn't come in first, then both of them would be in danger.

One deathmatch alone doesn't make her anything special, and even the deathmatch was played very much unoptimally. She was able to pick silence which was proven to be a strong pick since the first game. In the deathmatch she never used her double move, not even at the end, and she won mainly because the poker player broke down. Still, I'm glad she was able to show that she has impact, I can't deny that. I still hope that she drops out next.

Could Yeonjoo do something similar?

+ Show Spoiler +Yeonjoo did well for DM for her unorthodox route but it was Yoohyun who caused his own downfall. For the DM, she did right by working with Yeonseung who together with his and her partners drove the MM game. A big part was also due to their draw of luck which enabled them to pick some really powerful cards. Good to see Yeonseung rising up to the occasion and posing a real challenge to the Double Min alliance, unlike Yoohyun who couldn't man up. This makes for more exciting matchup.

She'll beat either Hyunmin or Dongmin in the semis deathmatch with pure rng luck for maximum salt then proceed to 2-0 the other in the finals.

Yeonjoo was never in danger of losing and Yoohyun never got past 6 squares or something. And Yoohyun choking shouldn't take away anything from Yeonjoo's win. It's not like they both choked, one just harder than the other. Yeonjoo also started the deathmatch prepared with plans like associating successful turns with korean letters and getting to the other starting position as soon as possible(her first 2 steps were both towards Yoohyun. Her third would've been the same if not for the wall.) while Yoohyun just brute-forced his way out of his starting point as if it's his first time playing the game.

+ Show Spoiler +That DM was nothing special really. If Yoohyun hadn't broke down like that, there's no way in hell Yeonjoo could've won. The strategy she used could easily be foiled if Yoohuyn just remembered the path he took, since it would take her like 3 more turns to get to that point anyway. If you replace Yoohuyn with any of the other 3, I'm sure Yeonjoo will not stand a chance.
I agree with the poster above that in a sense, Yeonjoo is a lot like Junghoon from ss2. Both have good social skills that enable them to just tag along and be occasional winners of the main matches. But in death matches, I think Yeonjoo will be a lot weaker than Junghoon. I'd be surprised if she survive the next episode, especially with the arrival of Jinho and Sangmin, who most likely will not support her

I still don't think this person is that capable, but there's no more optimal strategy for the main matches than "do nothing and let all the other people fight it out". It doesn't make for good TV but it gets you far in the season while learning the other people's strengths and weaknesses, one of which was exploited in the death match.

Episode 9 Spoiler Below
+ Show Spoiler +So disappointed with Yeonseung completely ignoring the power he had from the win.
Although it's understandable that he had no real interest in choosing a player to go into the deathmatch I feel it was extremely silly not to leverage that position to extract some value knowing that Dongmin wanted to save Hyunmin. I'm pretty sure he could have pulled normal/black garnets from Dongmin (although nobody knows the value of black garnets at this stage) in order to let him have his way.
At the very worst he could at least have tried to create a bit more of a scene where it's clearly Dongmin + Hyunmin vs Yeonseung + Yoohyun + Yeonjoo so that if there's a repeat of last season's ability of players to assist one of the finalists he might secure himself a couple of assists.
Instead he rolled over and gave Dongmin what he wanted for free? Ugh.
