I used to be much more of an audiophile than I currently am, as you may know if you checked out my previous blog regarding the acquisition of new music at this point and time in my life. What I have retained, in this lull on the roller coaster of music appreciation, is a fairly eclectic, and diverse range of musical interests.
What follows are five playlists, which I made in varying states of sanity/emotional well being. I had intended to post the lot of them, but I didn't realize how many I had made on Grooveshark, so this could potentially go on as a mini series of blogs. I've detailed the playlists, and thought I would comment a bit on each as I write out the playlists.
So peruse the tracklists and see if something catches your eye.
An Odd Mood.
- 1. Mile End - Pulp
2. Spit it Out - IAMX
3. Alameda - Elliott Smith
4. Pictures of You - The Cure
5. Serre-Moi - Tryo
6. Heoin - The Velvet Underground
7. Perfect Day - Lou Reed
8. Created - Portugal The Man
9. These Days - Nico and the Velvet Underground
This was a playlist I made shortly after a friend of mine and my ex had started dating. Not the immediate reaction, which if I am not mistaken is down below just a bit. At the time I was moving into a new place with my current girlfriend, from a relatively shitty apartment. A lot of conflict with some of these songs, it isn't to most well put together list, more an amalgamation of different sentiments which is fairly accurate for my mental state at the time.
Burning Down Hot Topic
- 1. First and Last and Always - Sisters of Mercy
2. Lovesong - The Cure
3. Christina Death - The 69 Eyes
4. Eyes Without a Face - Billy Idol
5. Marian - Sisters of Mercy
6. Enjoy the Silence - Depesche Mode
7. Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
8. The End of the World - The Cure
9. Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now - The Smiths
This one is a lot more straight forward, than An Odd Mood, I had just seen The World's End and, in an attempt to reunite with my 18 year old self I tapped into some of my knowledge of 80s music, specifically some goth influences with Sisters of Mercy which I knew to have touched on bands like The 69 Eyes, and H.I.M. both of which were constants in high school. In hindsight The Smiths seem a bit out of place.
Calmish
- 1. Maenem - Jami Sieber
2. Immortal - iNexus
3. Philosophy in a Teacup - Tsueneo Imahori
4. Downstream - Shira Kammen
5. Blue Funk - Tsueneo Imahori
6. Long Past Gone - Jami Sieber
7. Never Could Have Been Worse - Tsueneo Imahori
8. The Dragonborn Comes - Malukah
9. Undercurrent - Jami Sieber
10. Requiem for a Dream - Kate Chruscicka
11. I am the Doctor - Murray Gold
12. The Cybermen - Murray Gold
13. Game of Thrones Theme
14. Whatever You Like - Anya Marina
I don't have much of a story for this one, I was drinking a lot and had recently discovered TLO's Grooveshark account which is where the GoT, Skyrim, and Doctor Who bits come from on this playlist. The rest is an assembly of OST music from an Anime called Trigun, and the game Braid; Anya comes from a playlist of Tasteless's tweeted music, and iNexus from the Liquid Rising trailer. There is a lot of movement in some of these, then it kind of grinds to a halt. The way the songs come together is interesting though.
Depression
- 1. POS is Ruining My Life - POS
2. Audition Mantra - POS
3. Here for You - Oliver Hart
4. Exhausted Love - Eyedea and Abilities
5. Avril 14th - Aphex Twin
6. Everything Means Nothing to Me - Elliott Smith
7. Threewrite - Sage Francis
8. F.T.W. - Turbonegro
9. Can't Make a Sound - Elliott Smith
10. Little Man - Atmosphere
11. Earth to Bella pt.1 - Incubus
12. Earth to Bella pt.2 - Incubus
13. Crumble - Sage Francis
14. Paradise - Eyedea and Abilities
15. Smile - Eyedea and Abilities
This would be the one that came about almost directly after my finding out about a certain relationship. This is kind of my, "I am determined to not feel good," playlist. There is a lot more repetition of artists than I generally like, but especially Eyedea (who is also Oliver Hart, just different project names) is brilliant at getting to the core of depressing topics. Turbonegro gets a nod but is out of place, Earth to Bella is a reference to a completely different girl I had seen by the name of Bella, though I thought the sentiment fit. I love Smile as the last track here.
Dreary Monday
- 1. 03:45 No Sleep - The Cardigans
2. Lives - Modest Mouse
3. Thoughtful - Isaac Shepard
4. Pretender - Foo Fighters
5. Superstar - Sonic Youth
6. Salt and Sea - Lazerbeak
7. Sunday Morning - The Velvet Underground feat. Nico
8. What else is there? - Röyksopp
9. I Know it's Over - The Smiths
I made this one in the Fall, during a rainy, cold morning. I have inspired titles I know. There wasn't much thought that went into these beyond I wanted something in the vein of calm, but interesting and active. I like the up and down of this one, also if you have never listened to The Cardigans beyond Lovefool the album that first track comes from is Long Gone Before Daylight and it is brilliant.
Anyways, that should be it for now. If you like them let me know and I can do more up, or you can skip ahead to my Grooveshark profile and take a peek in advance.
