Right now in the Broodwar scene there is STL, teamleague for the best players. Maroon Starleague seems like it was created to give some competition between the second tier of players (correct me if I'm wrong redaxis). Those not quite good enough to be invited to play STL. Maybe if they show some good results in this league than some STL team will add them to their lineup...seems like incentive enough. But honestly, allowing B+ and higher rank players won't do much for this league because a) C rank and lower will tend to not sign up once they see players joining they know they can't take a single game off b) slim to none of the top BW foreigner will join because the prize pool will be meager at best, they would rather just get better competition by laddering @ fish to prepare for the bigger money in the next STL/other top tier tournaments.

Pretty much. I'm into hosting tournaments for the lower-ranked players to give them the atmosphere of playing in a worthwhile tournament, or league setting, in games that have some meaning in terms of entertainment and exposure. Plus, add in the fact that we could always use more players and viewers to the BW scene.
I could always try and host tournaments for the best-of-the-best, but I don't think I have the name value for something like that. Leagues and tournaments meant for players along the caliber of Sziky and Bizzy are meant to be hosted by Teamliquid in TLS or fellow A players in draW or SBWI with their awesome prize pools and actual organization of admins.
But again, to answer the question of "banning" players that are ineligible but try and smurf, I'll be trying my best to keep them out, but there's no way I can get them personally banned from Teamliquid. o.O Maybe if someone like 2Pac thinks it warrants a ban, but I have no authority to ban anyone anywhere by any means, not even close, lol.

Is ladder stage really necessary with that many players? ^^
Although I'd like one as it would actually force me to play some games.

I was hoping for possibly more players, but I do admit that I should've announced it a bit earlier since sign-ups are only two weeks and that I should've tried and promote it a bit more, but yeah, depending on the number of sign-ups, I might just get rid of the ladder stage and just have the league start right into elimination group stages.

Why the hell are better players offracing? Don't even sign up, dont y'all have many leagues to play in anyways, jeez
