somehow during the last few years it felt like i had a burn out when it came to games. I could play games for a while, but i tended to rush through them. Everyone praised open world games like Skyrim, i prefered to play stuff that would lead me like a rail road. I checked online, how many missions there are, just to see how close i'm to the end. Even in never ending games like Dwarf Fortress i tried to rush thing. Didn't bother to play it slowly and enjoy all those little details. Missed all the fun.
Now i finally decided to change that. Get back the fun and enjoyment in gaming. It was just an experiment. I started my new Fortress as a challenge, and decided i would blog about it in the DF forums (Link). And whoaaaaa
Before i used an FPS-limit of 150, racing through the game. Now i set it to 80, considering to slow it down even further. Writing about it, trying to catch all those little details about my beloved dwarves (or characters) and thinking about some story... Suddenly i really enjoy playing it. It feels so awesome. Even building some useless stuff, just for story reasons. Laughing about some mishaps that would make me rage before. I thought my blog would maybe create some entertainment for others, but now i realized it is not even that important people read it... because first of all it creates a huge entertainment to myself. It really changed my whole experience.
Really... i can just recommend everyone who ever felt the same like i did initially. Slow down... Try to think about some of the surrounding story... and enjoy!
PS:
I'm using the Masterwork Mod for DF, adding tons of stuff, while drastically improving performance... Just in case you wonder how i kept the gamespeed that high Normal DF crumbles quite fast ^^
