First off, Sorry for not responding to everyone who commented in my last blog. I got alot of good advice and I really appreciate it .
Recently I havent had time to play alot (a common theme for me) and I decided to ladder some WOL. Just wanted to check out how the competition was in the old game ya know? Well I placed into gold. Now normally I play at a LOW masters level.. Im about 50/50 against diamond/masters. So I decided that it might be fun to try to high masters in WOL. Well I went 54-4 (and 3 of those games were giveaways) and I am still in gold O.O....
Anyways, I'm alittle drunk right now, and I played some ladder drunk (*extra excuse* I also was using a touch pad instead of a mouse ) and I was at about a 50/50 win rate in HOTS and WOL. And it felt like I sucked.
Normally when I play I can pick out my mistakes and see what I did wrong (bad micro, supply block, low apm, etc) and can take comfort in improving. But either because im inebriated or just something else, I just felt like I was getting my butt kicked.
I still had a great time playing (otherwise I wouldnt) but I think I finally can understand a little bit of what alot of high lvl players vent about when they get frustrated. When people who were high masters or whatever would complain about hitting a wall, I would always think "why dont you freaking practice harder then?" but maybe at a certain point practice isnt rewarded linearly? Maybe skill measurement goes from a game of yards (not getting supply blocked) to inches (never missing a production cycle) to millimeters(Pros like DRG and Inno in GSL this week) and maybe that makes it alot harder to see your improvements as a player, which is frustrating.
**Now I played LOL today also, and I can totally see why that game has a bigger fanbase. You can be RELAXED while playing it. THAT was another weird feeling after sc2 being the only game I played for so long. For instance, playing on a trackpad didnt seem like a disadvantage. I could tab out occasionally. Now obviously I wasnt great, but I definitely felt like I held my own. AND I could always blame my teammates
Not to hate on either game.. I had alot of fun playing both. LOL was a good relaxing break, but in sc2 I feel like such a BOSS when i pull of a sickass play! Anyways, I need to go to bed (toooo many BRRRRS and Nathanias stream), but I just wanted to share my insights with you guys
