The reason why I wrote this blog, is for sharing a wish that probably 75% of TL users share: get into the eSports streaming.
I live in South America, Chile. A very unknow country beside the 'Miners' incident; a small country with a total population around the 17 million, a GDP of US$15,424 and a ridiculously unequal weatlh distribution. in eSports terms, Samgsung is sponsoring a national eSports league "Liga Samsung" that even made it to the TL spotlighted streams when the finals where played. I only have the maximun amount of viewers for three finals: 1.2k for Dota 2, 1.8k for CSGO and an impressive 8.1k for LOL.
As you can see, only by this numbers, there's a good posibility to make grow the Dota 2 scene at my country. Even if I don't think that the Dota 2 finals can reach a viewers peak of 8.1k in the near future, I think a 2.5k to 3k for the same league final should be reachable.
Basically I'm starting to gather some information, making some numbers in my head, and thinking about the time that I'll need to invest in this... I have like 5 hours a day available between my arrival to home and the critical 23:30 mark in which I must go to sleep.
I've readed several articles, watched some VODs of a show called "the executives" and I'm starting to send some mails to people that are involved in the streaming activity. I know the basic advices: being yourself in the stream, try to offer something different, give personality to the channel, be patient, constant, or just simply fucking do it, etc. But I have some more questions that are not always approached. And I'll probably make a poll in the near future about it (for example, how much knowledge you expect form a caster/commentator?
I don't pretend being the new Day9, DjWheat or get an invitation to the International 2014 analysis desk. I just want to make something that I feel passionate about, I don't want to be spectating the scene, I want to be part of the scene, even if it's only the local scene.
Any advice from people with experience in this? Since I have a work, I was thinkking about getting cool stuff in the Dota 2 Store and make "giveaways" after some transmissions,

Don't take this the wrong way but streaming is as much luck as hard work. You are going to need to stream daily, consistently and you will probably have 1-2 viewers max for close to a year, and after all this you might build a following or you might not.
Streaming should be something you do on the side because you enjoy it because there is a very high chance no one will watch you.

get as much exposure as possible. dont rely just the one streaming website. also use youtube. make your own website. advertise on forums across the internet. it will help to target Chilean communities too.
|
Try to get on gaming talkshows, that way the word will spread about your stream, and more people will give it a chance.

consistency is important for streaming, also just streaming a large amount of time is too. it may not be possible where you live, but quality is also important. you want to be able to stream on the best quality possible. also, if you're going to be talking, have a clear, and quality mic with little background noise. be interesting, and have a good time doing it. I only get like 5 viewers at most, but I don't have any of the things I listed, except the having good time part.
if you actually wanna try streaming for a living, or to be successful, I'd recommend not to bother. but if you're just doing it have a good time, learn as you go, and have a blast doing it!

be original. If your offering a weaker copy of other streams/streamers u wont get viewers. Streaming is a product, what makes yours unique (this is a rhetorical question)

Thanks for the replies people!
I'll definetly like to have a talk show, I think is one of the most interesting things to do, but for that, a ridiculous amount of time is needed. Still one thing to check!
Yes, a Twichtv channel is basically a product, which needs to be different to other ones, but at the same time, you can't just do crazy stuff that can kill your stream before even starting.
I'm trying to look for the financial numbers, can't find proper information, only a Destiny post about it. Anyway is not about making money. But if someone have some info, that would be really appreciated.

Seriously, just do it. No need for giveaways etc. just do it because you like doing it.
I stream whenever I can and usually only get 1-2 viewers but it's fun to do so I keep doing it.

Just make sure you put extra tissues in your bra to boost viewers!
