I think it's not hard to guess at this point that I'm considering moving on from SC2 casting-wise. No events, no point.
SC2 has always been a money-sink for me but the reward was getting to cast live in front of an audience which I love doing the most
Obviously DOTA is an idea but I need to learn way more about it first, I had loads of fun with Quake, but I'd probably need to make an event
@BozzyUnlimited yeah and I'd be throwing money into a pit, why even bother

@ChanmanV @SirScoots @desRowfighting @kmicj nobody watched playhem, that isn't going to change without a series paradigm shift
@ortzinator small minded weaklings. Supposed fans of their game actively trying to make it less successful. Hilarious really
Yeah man i know.wcs na doesnt get any viewers.playhem didnt get nay viewers.sc fans are weaklings cause they defend the game.Might go to dota2.sc2 is a blackhole for money.Nice way of prooting the game

Honestly I wish someone would shake Blizzard up.
They literally haven´t done anything but a few minor changes since the release of the Heart of the Swarm. We would expect a major patch (2.1.) by now already. At the same time we don´t hear anything what Blizzard is planning with their franchise.
Overall the communication feels non-existent from Blizzard. It even feels like Blizzard is having hard time just keeping the game up and running since even the 4v4 ladder hasn´t been working for over a week after the last patch. The patch was supposed to fix the issue with 4v4 only to make it worse and make all games count as loss.

Compared to WoW, Diablo 3, or their upcoming MMO, SC2 is so small and makes so little money that I'm surprised their giving it any attention at all tbh.

MLG has to pay Blizzard to host SC2 so it doesn't matter if SC2 rakes in more viewers if it actually makes them less money than COD.

Yes but what makes LoL and DotA so popular is that their developers truely believe in what they do.
Blizzard doesn´t give me that gut feeling that they sincerely believe in Starcraft 2.

Well, they're not giving it that much. The SC2 team is very small inside Blizzard.

Blizzard doesn't have to rely on esports, or base their living on a single game like Riot does. Why take a gamble on a game with a small player base, or into the esports world that still is not profitable or popular, when they can put money into games with guaranteed millions upon millions of players.

i generally think(but i am not sure about this) that mlg makes the majority of the money form ticketsales, sponsorships and stream views.I remember sundance saying something about this in a show.not sure about this though.I have seen incontrols post on reddit saying that lol and cod pay mlg but i am curious to know how much of mlgs total revenue is given by those games

Well it is true but not that they don't believe in Sc2. LoL and Dota2 are f2p and have a ingame shop that profits the game. Sc2 gets profit from game sales. Blizzard have a totally different focus from day1 and eSport is it's 2nd goal.

To be honest, I don't think Blizzard has ever believed in pushing E-Sports. Brood War was completely community driven to the point where maps had to be designed to achieve balance because Blizzard stopped supporting the game. WCS is the first real attempt by Blizzard to push the Starcraft II scene and so far it has been unsuccessful.

There are no numbers to link but it doesn't make sense for MLG to remove SC2 if it was making them money. Logically speaking, COD has to be making MLG more money than SC2.

WCS basically took over the SC2 tournament scene, no other tournaments really matter anymore.

I don't think SC2 will run our of viewers any time soon, the thing is that major sponsors and organizers will choose other games that are immensely more popular because why wouldn't they.

Welp, it's not like I'm super surprised. When they actually have to pay money to have SC2 at their competitions instead of getting paid like they are for other titles (as Incontrol said), then it's probably bad for them. And while I think that it'snot the end of american sc2 competition, I'll surely miss MLG a lot (even if it has mostly been in the most uncomfortable time frames for me ._.).
Lets see what comes next, I still think they will do some kind of event for Starcraft in the next months.

Considering how bad their "summer" event was (played during the spring then broadcasted from replays) I'm not surprised at all. I haven't watched any MLG content since the end of 2012 anyways I'm happy with only GSL content.
