Well, it was pretty obvious from the get-go that TB was a fair-weather fan that isn't actually devoted to SC or even the RTS genre.

I really never cared whether SC2 as an "e-sport" would succeed. Frankly, I think the importance of making SC2 a Western E-Sport is inflated by the people who benefit from it. From my point of view, the best SC2 players will always be competing somewhere, and I don't care at all where that is. When I hear the GSL is closing down, that is when I'll start worrying.

As long as Blizzard makes the next expansion and there are people playing it online, that's all that matters. All our Western SC2 promoters -- TB, InControl, Day9, even TeamLiquid -- they ultimately don't matter. MLG doesn't matter. E-sports doesn't matter and I never liked the term. The game lives on.

It is pretty depressing that the only 1v1 esport that is popular is declining now too, some of us just don't like team games.

Even if we look back to the BW days, 1v1 was never the main event. The real show was with the team events. I'm with you though. I prefer the 1v1 dynamic much more than team based.

If some of you still think that SC2 is popular worldwide then you need to wake the **** up. IT IS DYING because otherwise, MLG wouldn't have made such a decision regarding SC2, one of the most well known RTS games, in the first place. They have a lot of data that support their decision of dropping SC2.

Well, sorry but in the end it's all about business to MLG.

HoTS is a joke. Blizzard made a huge mess of it.

you do realize sc2 had more viewers at mlg than cod and all the other games.the only game that surpassed it was lol.mlg does not have any secret data. When i see sc2 have good streamnumbers and a packed house of people i know the game is successful.

I don't think SC2 will run our of viewers any time soon, the thing is that major sponsors and organizers will choose other games that are immensely more popular because why wouldn't they.

This is actually the biggest issue of all. No MLG means a lot less hits for sponsors of NA organizations. No sponsors means no teams.

It's been done. Someone has finally managed to place the blame of MLG pulling out from SC2 on Blizzard. Genius.

The fact that its really hard for casters outside of WCS to find job is another thing that the "U NO CAST WHILE WE CAST" thing wcs has going, which, ofcourse, is hurting the scene a lot. hopefully blizzard will remove that in the near future.

People saying Sc2 is dead have no perspective. I've seen what dead communities look like. This isn't one of them and wont be for a VERY long time if ever. Shadowrun, Gears of War, Halo, Quake, those are communities that are on the decline and are shadows of what they used to be, but they're still around. WCS does unify the whole competitive scene in a sense which is great, but it also hurts innovation and competition like Geoff said. However I feel the scene was over-saturated and MLG leaving doesn't bother me much at all. In fact, I actually like the move if it means they can bring Halo back

the guy is not making money, he has always said this.
do u expect the SC2 eSports scene to be one giant charity?

real top notch professional event promoters want no part of SC2 eSports.

TB did a nice job with the limited talent and resources he had at his disposal. But, he is not a professional event promoter.

Red Bull may make some kind of small events, but the scale and prize money is going no where but down guys.

This is because the events themselves do not make money. It ain't 2003 any more and this ain't South Korea.

All I can say is that I don't care. There are already so many other sc2 events to watch. There is an over saturation when you compare it to other games.

Yes exactly. If anything there are too many events. Back when Halo was big, MLG was the main league and they only had an event once every 2-3 months.

BW was huge? That's funny because outside of Korea BW was dead (at least in NA). During the BW days, Quake, Counter Strike, and Halo were the big esports titles. SC2 is the largest community I've ever been a part of. Just because LoL and Dota 2 are now bigger doesn't mean its "dead." People need to understand this. I have no interest in LoL or Dota anyway. The Moba genre just bores me (that may change since I thought SC2 was boring BS at first also ). The only thing that will rip me way from SC is another massively popular FPS that isn't a disgrace to competitive gaming like CoD. I'm hoping for a Halo, Quake, or Counter Strike resurgence. Maybe a PC CoD game that's been modded and actually plays well.

Globally, BW was tiny. SC2 popularity blows it out of the water still. The difference is the ranking. BW was far and away the biggest fish in the pond, but now it's a lake and LoL and DotA are bigger. Relative pride has been hurt.

SC2 is very far away from dead but it cant rely on shrinking to a core scene like BW cause Koreans don't care about it like they did for BW. It's up to the western community to apply pressure on Blizzard and innovate the game.

RIP in Peace SC2~
2010 - 2013

MLG set the stage for some of SC2's greatest story lines. Really sad its ending T.T;

Admittedly though~ I haven't followed (or played) SC2 for several months now.
I might be the minority on TL, but TL is the minority everywhere else.

not really a loss IMO. The MLG format is awful for a sc2 tournament. It was fun to watch I guess, but all i need is sc2 from korea.

This is a catastrophe. Incontrol made a very good point that Blizzard is the only developer that demands being paid for the tournament. This is such a massive blow to sc2's visibility.

Is Dota 2 fun to watch/play?

I haven't tried it out, but I want something to fall back on just in case.

Wasn't a big fan of LoL at all. No denying, no penalty for death, huge mana pools for every champ, and free blink dagger at game start.

And blizzard is to blame for messing up the Korean community with how they presented the game to them .

it is ultimately blizzard's fault, so it's legit to blame them. They haven't - even despite a recent expansion - managed to keep SC2 relevant as an esport. HOTS was a very timid expansion, and didn't shake things up nearly enough
