I am huge sucker for science fiction in general, and i really love games and movies with a very in depth and thought through story and alot of lore - but wherever i look alot of the games being made today dosen't concentrate on good singleplayer quality like alot of older games did...
I really loved games like the half-life series, diablo 1,2 and 3 (however i kinda played through them once, then never touched them again) and i played some final fantasy back in the days i actually had a playstation 1. I am the kind of person who can watch all the cutscenes from a game i never played ^^
If you have any recommendations of science fiction movies and rpg games you like, i would love to hear
Ps. I really don't like mmos - my brother tried to make me play WoW... And i have never felt more bored...

Fallout: New Vegas is pretty damn amazing and addicting!
|
Im looking for general RPG games for the PC, I can't seem to find any. Like traditional ones
|
Have you searched on GoG.com yet? They have a lot of older games for the PC(such as Baldur's gate) which have been changed to work on newer systems.
|
|
Have you played Chrono Trigger yet?
|
KotOR is pretty awesome, and KotOR 2 is ok.
|
You might want to try the Baldur's Gate series if you never played it before. Great games with everything that you're looking for and they can take a while to finish. I highly recommend it, one of the best RPG game on PC for sure IMO.

Syberia Syberia II + Show Spoiler +It's a point and click adventure starring a female lead (Kate Walker) trying to solve a mystery about an automaton factory heir
Fallout 1 Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics + Show Spoiler +Great RPG series, im new to the old ones but they are still really enjoyable. If you like tactics games Fallout Tactics is really fun.
Definitely second playing emulated games as well though if you want to play japanese rpgs, in addition to Breath of Fire, Golden Sun, Chrono Trigger check out Dragon Quest, Persona, SMRPG + Mario & Luigi games

legend of dragoon, valkyrie profile for PS1.
|
Grandia II is a Dreamcast game with a really fun battle system, which I find to be strangely uncommon among RPGs.
If you want a really good story (although short) with enjoyable puzzles, play OFF. It's a free PC game.
EDIT: Oh, Sci Fi. I suck at reading, lol. Regardless, I'd recommend OFF to anyone.

Deus Ex, Planescape: Torment, System Shock 2. If you want more modern I thought The Witcher was pretty good.
|
I'm actually playing the witcher: enhanced edition right now on steam, its pretty good! Reminds me of the good old days when I played Fallout 1/2, although its definitely not as good as those old classics.
New vegas was alright though, just because Obsidian made it so it wasn't tainted by Bethesda's influence (too much). I still remember how shallow and boring Oblivion was. All of their games can be summarized as quantity over quality, which is why everyone's fondest memory of the game seems to be anthropomorphizing random NPC actions, rather than any specific questline, story, or piece of dialogue.
|
Any of the Elder Scrolls series, but particularly the Morrowind game. If you want nicer graphics there are graphics mods available, but it's an excellent game regardless of the graphics.
The Final Fantasy series are generally pretty good; try some of the older ones for sure.

http://lparchive.org/Golden-Sun/
a good read on someones view why golden sun was awful, though i found it okay
legend of dragoon for psx is an rpg i enjoyed. Though i rarely care much about story, if you like cutscenes xenosaga is worth checking out
|
The Arkham Series (on Pc and console) is quite good (I guess batman is kinda scifi?). You basically run around as Batman in overhead thirdperson with fun combat and a few puzzles. The story isn't super in-depth but there are a lot of things to do and the cut scenes aren't bad.
|
The Mass Effect series is pretty decent. If you are looking for more lore and exploration based, you can go with the Fallout games. The Witcher series is good too, as well as Elder Scrolls of course. If you want a world to get lost in with a lot of lore that you have to figure out and is difficult, go for Dark Souls.
|
Geneforge series is fantastic. Warning: the first three titles need a custom fix to prevent video lag on modern operating systems, so get them through GOG rather than Steam.
|
Mass Effect has quite an in-depth codex that I really enjoyed reading, and the first game at least is relatively RPG-esque (I've grown to enjoy ME2's gameplay much more, but ME1 did a great job of setting up the universe)
KOTOR 1 and 2 as mentioned above, especially if you're into the Star Wars novels
Loved the GBA Golden Suns, though I'd caution that somehow emulating them just wasn't the same as the feeling I got from playing them originally on the consoles. YMMV
Other GBA games I really enjoyed that transition well with emulation were Riviera The Promised Land and Yggdra Union, respectively nontraditional RPG and SRPG. Also Summon Night: Swordcraft Story (ARPG). Yeah I like Atlus games

I really like Dark Cloud for the Playstation 2.
