Is it normal to put chocolate powder in chili? 1/2 tablespoon seems like a lot.
I'll definitely try this recipe out though. I've been feeling a bit constipated lately.

Good call mixing beef and pork. They complement each other well in all kinds of recipes! Ever try making chili with a big cut like a chuck roast or pork shoulder? If you braise it long enough it just falls off the bone, plus all your spicy flavors get plenty of time to blend.

You can chop habaneros without gloves. Doesnt matter if they are green, red or yellow. It will not burn you. You should not rub your eye though. Or other sensitive parts for that matter.

Depending on which habanero you get, be careful. Their hotness range is quiet big so 3 could screw your Chili but I guess you can make up for it by mass. Also if capsaicin gives you troubles drink something with fat in it. Milk , yoghurt etc

Usually I would say you dont on that recipe because chilis are either shifting towards being hot or sweet. Jamie Oliver for example puts cinnamon in his and it tastes great but I prefer a hot one. Half a tablespoon should be fine

I'm a bit surprised to see chocolate powder as well... but I guess he actually means cocoa powder? It's quite commonly used in the Middle/South American kitchen.

Totally. Just be sure to wash your hands really, really, really well before taking a leak, or you're in for an unforgettable experience.

Do you think using 1 Tbsp of Thai Chili (Birds eye chili) would be too much as a replacement for the cayenne?

lots of chilis have chocolate and/or stuff like cinnamon or sugar in it. unsweetened chocolate gives it a kinda dark earthy taste. it's pretty subtle.

my go to chili has a couple hunks of that chocolate i posted on page 1, as well as a cinnamon stick, broth, soda and/or beer (this depends on what i have around). sodas and beers are acidic is how you tenderize your meat and the sugar helps balance it. (i usually use more than ground meat; sirloin, chuck, sausages, chorizo, etc, which takes a lot longer to cook than ground meat)

for beer, i try to use something dark and a little bitter; i use magic hat 9 or maybe yueng black and tan a lot. depending on what kinda beer, soda and peppers i used, i might add a little brown sugar. since i usually have beer and soda, i usually just rip apart canned tomatoes by hand to not make it overly acidic.

almost every single one ive seen with chocolate usually uses unsweetened baking chocolate though.

the cool thing about chili is that there are so many damn different ways to do it. there really isnt a right way, so long as you arent doing something dumb like vegetarian chili.

i dont know how it stacks up heatwise, but youll certainly have a different tasting chili.

if you are unsure, try adding to taste while you cook. add a tiny bit, let it cook for 20 min or so to absorb flavor, come back and taste, adjust as necessary. if you goof and make it too hot, add liquid to neutralize and rebalance the rest of your flavors. that's the nice thing about chili for newer cooks: it is quite hard to fuck up, and you can quickly fix errors usually

Good lord, why is your cheddar bright yellow? I hope it's just the saturation of your photo or the lighting of your room etc etc... cheddar's normally very pale (unless you're going for something like red leicester)

Cheddar is supposed to be white? It's usually yellow-orange in the States

No, because food can look good, taste good, and be good for you.

I think what Wax is saying is that the term 'porn' implies a certain level of depravity and excess. It's food you must sacrifice yourself for - your heart, your arteries, your bowels, your soul. It's like masturbating to horrific, abominable, gut-wrenching German shizer porn or Hanson, and knowing you're a worse person for it but continuing along the road to Hell anyways.

Your food looks good. It's fairly healthy and it looks like something that would be a joy to eat on a day-to-day basis. But you will not pay for eating this food. You will not feel the shame of a thousand CNN news anchors. You will not hate a small part of yourself when the meal is over. It is not food porn.

Yeah, to me food porn implies something that you would be embarrassed to be seen eating, something that you'd only eat when you know everyone else has left the house, that would be delicious but you'd feel the consequences of for the next week.

Your stuff looks (and most probably tastes) great, but is more like... fooderotica.

No, but that sounds amazing! I'll have to try that out sometime. :D

Because it's fake cheddar!
I use soy cheddar and soy sour cream -- hence the cheddar is obnoxiously bright orange (even more so than the standard "sharp cheddar" available here in the states).
I did saturate the image a bit though.

I burned my hands earlier that day, so capsaicin + injured hands = bad times.
If you have sensitive skin, it'll probably burn still. Better safe than sorry!

I get what he's saying, but I've always understood food porn as something pretty to look at. With that being said, "food porn" may have a different connotation from person to person.

I cannot fathom how you can associate "porn" with something pretty to look at. ^^ Maybe I am the only one feeling this way but to me the title "food porn" does in no way, shape or form represent your delicious food appropriately.

Haha, not the term "porn" alone, but when it's paired with something else like "food porn" or "earth porn"

Maybe I just hang round those subreddits too much.
