It's a remake of this, which is much better: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0427582/?ref_=sr_1 Anyway, here are some suggestions: Compliance http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1971352/?ref_=sr_1 Based very much on a true story, you won't believe what happens in this movie. Your jaw will drop and you'll be throwing things at the screen in anger. Must watch in my opinion. Sin Nombre http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1127715/?ref_=sr_1 Amazing foreign movie set in Mexico, about gang violence and the immigrant trail into the US. The Killing Room http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1119191/?ref_=sr_1 Not a bad little thriller, think of Cube combined with Exam. Nothing great but a decent way to kill some time.

When I came to this thread I expected to see independent, or amateur staff, some relic from the past which can be only found on private trackers, or a neat documentary with limited circulations - not godfucking Lost In Overappraisal. You realize there are like... entire websites and blogs that specialize in exposing those sort of films. This is a Team Liquid thread in the general form, everyone is going to have a different definition for "under the radar" depending on where they come from/how old they are/what they are into.

DO NOT CHECK IMDB ! Their sysnopsis is full of spoilers. Story : A young teacher is about to move out. He invite his friends to come over for a final goodbye but more importantly, a unexpected truth about him. Well written, well played... Also if you wonder what a good script is, here is your chance. You'll literally dance in the movie's hands. Expect a medium budget movie without explosion or spaceships. The film takes place in only one place with a lot of characters. It's definitively not an artsy movie. If you want to watch it, don't go and check the plot or reviews before. You have to go in blindly or your mind won't blow. In the near future a signal transmited by TV and electronic devices turns people in killers... This is actually 3 smaller movies, all taking place in the same universe but with different directors. One is serious, another funny, etc and as a whole, it works very well and is entertaining. Post apocalyptic fans might enjoy this a lot.

It is even more importantly a movie that people should really see even though they might have been turned off by the pitch. City of God has 300k votes on imdb with a 8.7 average. There is no definition of surprisingly good film or hidden gem that applies to it. If it is anything, it's overrated. And honestly, when I read some stuff here (there are a lot of people who play the game well though), I wonder if I should post every movie I watch... Or if I should be liking to the Sight and Sound poll every to pages, because I mean, why not... Edit : Might as well participate... The Big Combo A B-movie film noir. While it's clearly inferior to the best movies of the genre, it is really surprisingly good for a B-movie, with some great and subtle scenes, and excellent cinematography that provides a convincing dark atmosphere. A pity the scenario is not a bit more convincing, but still well worth watching if you're into the genre.

Maybe not so hidden because its on several people's lists of top movies ever. I saw this one recently and can't help but think that it's message is even more relevant now than it ever was back in 1985. Its part comedy, part political commentary, part sci-fi / fantasy. 98% on rotten tomatoes.

PontyPool -IMDB- Kind of a take on the Zombie Genre, not your typical zombie movie that would have lots of killing and fighting but it is fairly suspenseful at times. A radio jockey is held up inside a radio station in the middle of the night as the town becomes "infected" Cockney's Vs Zombies -IMDB- If you liked Shaun of the Dead this movie sits along side of it fairly well in the comedy/zombie genre. While attempting to procure money to save his grandfather from moving to a new Nursing home a plague infects the city. Now they have to fight their way across the city to rescue a band of survivors (tenants) of a Nursing home. Quick question, whos faster; an old man with a walker or a zombie? This movie tries to answer that question ...lol The Hole -IMDB- Suspense/Thriller type of movie about some prep school kids who ditch a class field trip and get themselves locked inside an old bunker. Perks of Being a Wallflower -IMDB- Only bringing this up because many people might pass up on this movie because they might think the only redeeming quality is Emma Watson yet they would be wrong. The movie has a great cast and even better acting and storytelling; one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Party Monster -IMDB- This movie is pretty bizarre, it deals with the "Club Kid" scene back in the day. Stars Macaulay Culkin, Seth Green and a few other familiars. Not a great movie but definitely interesting! Sound of My Voice -IMDB- I think I saw someone recommend "Another Earth" (great movie) and this one was written and stars Brit Marling around the same time she did that one. It's a story about a cult who follows the words of a woman who claims to be from the future and the undercover journalists who join it in an attempt to expose her as a fraud,. The Red Violin -IMDB- Really not sure how much of a "hidden" gem this is, but for me it was a fantastic movie. Tells the story of a legendary Red Violin, thought to be only folk lore until an appraiser notices it in a pile of instruments recovered from communist china. The story follows the journey the Violin takes from it's creation in Italy to it's current place in an auction (New York) and all the tragedy that fell upon those who owned and used it over the centuries. Perfume - The Story of a Murderer -IMDB- Was completely blown away by how little attention this movie received. It's a story about a boy/man who was born with an super-human sense of smell and his obsession with trying to create the "perfect" perfume from those he kills along the way to create it. After the first 10 minutes you're probably going to be hooked! The Experiment -IMDB- If any of you have taken a psychology course you might be familiar with the stories premise (Stanford Prison Guard) The story is about a group of people who are taken to a abandoned prison and each are given roles of either Guards or Prisoners. With Adrian Brody and Forest Whitaker I thought more would have been made about it. A great movie that challenges the way we think about the power of authority. I have plenty more..but I'm going to watch Code 46 (as suggested here) and see if I like it Hope you enjoy!

Battle Beyond the Stars Cheesy as fuck and full of clichés, but it sure gives me my orginal trilogy Star Wars fix better than any new movie does.

Just watched this, basically take any Prison movie you've seen and replace the setting and inmates with Juvies and you got this movie. Lots of violence and corruption and by the time the movie is over you're left wondering ..what next?

This is what I had thought when I originally watched it: + Show Spoiler + The Man from Earth it's from a Star Trek writer (which I don't remember Day of the Dove or By any other name, but he did write a bad episode--Requiem for Methuselah--and one great one--Mirror Mirror). Anyways, it's kind of same theme as requiem for methuselah i.e. an immortal man. it's half bad, half bad funny, 1/8th actually good fun, 1/16th actually good, and 4/5ths inconsistent in the pacing/approach: + Show Spoiler [movie spoilers] + I was just a normal guy, I couldn't know much more than anyone else in the vast world; I only saw things with my own eyes, nothing special, etc ---> JK guys I was jesus, knew buddha, etc also whipping out the "I love yous" left and right for no reason. And by left and right I mean once in the film, but then that girl seems to be involved with another dude. Who knows. christian literalist character best character, followed by stupid cawlej chick it's not good and not really worth a watch, unless you're looking to see more indie films just to see them. [note math intentionally not right ] Anyways, to contribute, I'm sure others have posted it but Ink is really good and fun. Not a "hidden gem" for the internet but hidden gem for general public. It's about a little girl who gets kidnapped by, um, dream-thief things. Little kid is a boss and a lot of the other characters are fun too. + Show Spoiler [movie poster] + *edit* actually I probably heard about it from this thread since it was posted recently

BLUE SPRING http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0309291/reference One of my favourite endings to a movie. HOUSE http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076162/reference This is getting more and more attention these days, but still pretty unknown for the most part. Guaranteed good times. YOUTH OF THE BEAST http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057697/reference I thought that this was better known, but only 1.3k votes on IMDB, so guess not. One of the greatest movies of its kind that I've seen. TAKE CARE OF MY CAT http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0296658/reference It's Korean. KONTROLL http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0373981/reference You will enjoy this movie.

If you liked Cabin in the Woods for how it portrayed the horror genre of movies you might be pleasantly surprised by this one. This movie/Mockumentary takes place in a world where Freddy Krueger, Jason, Mike Myers actually existed and a documentary about a man named Leslie Vernon who says he's going to be the next BIG one. During this film the main character shows how he is painstakingly preparing for a mass killing. Doing so in such a way that every time you were aggravated about flashlights never working in those types of films he explains how much effort he put into making sure they didn't work when needed! Imagine Jason being a real person, not some mythical "back from the dead" hellspawn. How could he accomplish all those things and how much planning would he need to do so everything worked just the way he wanted it to....thats this movie A very humorous movie, be forewarned though; the last 1/4 of the movie you need to remember what the first 3/4 was trying to say! It takes a good 10-15 minutes to really get whats going on; what an enjoyable film to watch!!
