I would have to go with my favorite movie ever, one that most people have never heard of.

This one you might to smoke a lil something for:D If only so your butt stays planted in the couch and you dont just go wtf am I watching? If you have a good imagination and can let your mind tell the story of the pictures in the first half of the film, it has a rewarding finish.

this one kinda needs blu ray quality because alot of the awesomeness of the movies is just the cool visuals

edit: also, dont watch the trailer if you dont want to be spoiled couldn't find one that doesn't spoil the shit outa it

I have rediscovered two great movies recently that I reccommend.

1) Clue
Film based on the board game. Filled with a nice set of actors, hilarious slapstick comedy, and no holds bar punchlines.

2) Ratrace
A select group of random token winners in a casino are given the chance to race from Las Vegas to New Mexico for $2,000,000, but they don't know that behind the scenes an elite group of wealthy gamblers are betting on who will get to the money first. Mr. Bean, John Cleese, Cuba Gooding Junior, Newman from Seinfeld, John Lovitz, and many other big actors find themselves in all sort of funny situations, such as stealing hitlers car from a nazi museum only to crash it in an ironically bad ceremony stage and never forgetting to be kind to crazy, squirrel ladies.

The big lebowski is a movie that I put on, not expecting too much only to find an incredible, hilarious movie.

I know it's been said already, but Pandorum is a spectacular sci-fi mindfuck movie.
Also for a little bit of creepy but still good try Hard Candy

Cypher

Anyone wishing to create a movie based on Phillip K. Dick's works should watch this and learn. Rarely do movies portray the questioning of reality so well.

Just don't read it up on wikipedia as they spoil everything and one of the strengths of this movie is not knowing what's going to come next.

Secondhand Lions, for sure.

Also Waking Ned Devine.

Maybe Blade Runner for me since I had very little clue what I was in for, but then I knew it would probably at least be alright. Of course it was really good.

Just watched End of Watch. Surprisingly riveting and intense. Way better than you'd think a beat cop movie would be.

wether it be soundtrack, actors, characters, set up or plot we all have a reason to prefer a movie above all the other ones
that's why when a movie gets all of this right it is ... well... no written or told description (except the movie iteslf) is accurate enough to do justice to it, you just have to watch it

7 samurais is one of those movies, and although it is not exactly hidden not enought people have seen it

But if you want original recommendations then High and Low is a good choice to anyone who does not necessarily want explosions and naked parts when watching a movie

the simplistic approach leads to a most captivating story and the director trusts the viewers to make something good out of it, you will be a different person after watching this gem

Just throwing in my absolute support for this movie. It's definitely an unknown movie but it's amazing. I watched it again recently and it's hilarious.

If you like to go into movies with no idea about the setup, I've put it in a spoiler below but I would love it if more people saw this.

A simple premise, this is the story of a relationship between two people (one of them is Carmen Electra from 10 years ago if that encourages you) with it's regular ups and downs starting with them meeting up until having a baby. However, all this is being portrayed as a nature documentary for an alien audience narrated by David Hyde Pierce. The narration is constantly hilarious and often speaks volumes about dating and relationships in general. I would recommend this to anyone who loves parody and spoofs.

Midnight Run with Robert Deniro.

If you see the (old, 80's) trailer, this looks like just another cheap, cliché comedy. You wouldn't think it's worth the effort. But it has something special. I used to live in the US as a kid and somehow this movie also conveys a very genuine american feel, from various parts of the country. I don't know what it is but whenever I miss life in the states I watch this again.

Bonus = awesome appearances by Yaphet Kotto (black dude in Alien, done mostly TV recent years) and Joe Pantoliano.

Oscar

The best of Stallone's movies. It's even better than original with Louis de Funes.
