why would you want to carry two things-- when the iphone has enough memory for mp3s?
Battery life comes to mind as the major issue. If I had an iPod I would mostly be using it in the car, as I dont really feel comfortable wearing headphones and listening to music in public places. Every friend of mine who has an iPod that I know uses it at least a majority of the time in their car(Maybe its just a california thing, we drive a lot), so I couldnt have it running out of juice constantly cuz it would also be a phone. : [
Also space isnt that great, at good quality album is gonna be like 100+ megs so I would personally use up 4gb very quickly. And who knows what kind of enforced compatibility Apple will try to throw on this(I could imagine they requiring you to use .m4a/.aac or w/e the Apple format is).
Jack of all trades, master of none comes to mind with this thing and if you just want an MP3 phone there are plenty that have decent space and are much cheaper on a cell plan(Those chocolates are like 100 + 50 for a gig of memory).
you said it yoruself, it'll be used "in the car" (you personally), therefore, just use a car charger too. that's besides the point, 4gigs is a lot for a "phone".. and not to mention, theres the 8gb version. also, who would want the same tracks all the time? i'd assume most ipod users refresh their playlist?
Oh joy, it's patented! I'm so glad apple is the only one legally allowed to come up with 100% touchscreen phones now, or whatever the patent grants them.
thats exactly what i thought. who the fuck cares if its patented? this clearly shows which way apple is going ...
Don't be stupid. Jobs goes into detail on how much more advanced this touchscreen is than any current touchscreens on smartphones. Of course he highlighted the fact that it was patented.

I just dont see why Jobs should be the only one to improve upon this technology. It's not like apple invented the touchscreen. Apple also wanted to copyright the entire concept of a portable mp3 player. Do you honestly think the iPod should be the only mp3 player in existence? Depending upon what this patent actually covers, i have a feeling it will be overruled or some such, as patenting fundamental technology which should be deployed to the masses is counter-productive to society. It'd be like patenting the car, or patenting the cell phone.
However, this device kind of gives me the joyous feeling that all those cool little gadgets in sci-fi shows like star trek TNG and shit, where everything is touch screen with a nice smooth colorful interface is actually on the horizon. It is a very futuristic device and it stands to work plausibly in society, unlike other lame ass attempts to populate electronics with retarded BS that will never really catch on.
The iPhone is a good idea, and i cant wait to see what future technologies develop as a result of this, assuming there will be any.

Cisco obtained the name "I.Phone" (short for Internet Phone) from some company they bought in 2003, forgot the name but I am 99% sure about these dates. That company obtained a patent for the name I.Phone in 1996 or something, and patents expire after 7 years. Also, I.Phone and iPhone are different, stand for different things, and represent separate markets. Even if their patent was still valid, there would be no real case.
battery life is a big thing.. from phone to mp3 or w/e battery life has always been a big thing..

Ok this is the third time I'm saying this.
Battery life is FINE.
Talk time is 5 hours. Dont tell me you talk for more than five hours a day?
Playback time is 16 hours. Again, would you ever listen to music for 16 hours a day?
If you break them up, you'll probably have 2-3 hours of talk time with 8-10 hours of playback time.
Samsung probably has some nice stuff, and it isn't like this iphone is some cutting edge tech except that screen which hpefully wont be patented. To get a device to really be "the ultimate digital device" it has to be flexible and hackable, to allow for running all software within its hardware capabilities etc. Apple doing innovative engineering stuff makes me cringe, if only they didn't stress the appleness of their software platform their products would be viewed with more sympathy from certain groups.
